What's also nice, from the sim perspective, is that JHMCS and AIM-9X especially force the other guy to get better at his craft. No more 3 bag fly NOE and roll pure at 5 miles - You gotta fly it right or you take an X-ray to the face.
-
The Flanker blew up in your FoV, too...lol.
-
Certainly! I'd just train like it's gonna wreck everybody all day every day and go from there...What's the worst that happens, you defeat an AIM-9X in the merge? Sounds horrible... Rmin tactics (i.e. offset to the merge) should work, but you're gonna need to be idle for a long time...It's gonna be a fun missile to work/fight with, for sure. The good thing there is that the Hornet can't run to save its own life (literally!), so you can always avoid the DLZ to begin with.
-
That analogy, though...Lmao. Not bad! That video looks a helluva lot better than the first one!

Did you mod the 9X onto your Eagle or something? The 9X in-game doesn't represent the AIM-9X, IMO...I have a feeling ED will make changes to it before the Hornet releases (right now it's an R-60M seeker on an AIM-9X body, basically).
-
AIM-9X doesn't eat flares, FYI. I'd bet on it not eating flares in the sim, either...Prepare for the worst, etc. Speeding up, though, and using sheer kinematics to avoid the DLZ is just a fine idea. :)

This but with a wingman;

Best fighter? Invariably the ones flown by the best pilots. The best pilots are the ones that fly in a well coordinated, trained, and practiced manner. Platform differences matter, sure, but aren't the end all to the discussion, either. 8 well coordinated MiG-21s will stomp 8 F-15C scrubs every single time, for example. The Eagle's the best "fighter" fighter though. Most offensive options while nearly always having an exit window.

Looks like Buzzles beat me to it, but I'm posting this unedited anyways: Okay, I would correct the takeoff roll with aileron and rudder and do it a bit earlier. Smoothly increase throttle while correcting with aileron/rudder, you should lift at about 100mph. As I'm puling the gear I reset the rudder trim...Mine's on a a hat, so it's pretty easy. You're bringing your throttle up in chunks and doing that slowly, which prolongs takeoff roll and makes you correct more. I definitely recommend enabling the control indicator (Right control + Enter) so you can see what inputs you're making and what your trim settings are As for landings...Try flying that overhead pattern from higher, like 800ft AGL and 250mph for example. You gotta roll out on final a bit earlier, and make sure you're fully rolled out before trying to land...As you pull your power make sure you're correcting sideslip, glideslope, and start looking for 100ish mph on touchdown. I try to land 3 point. I float and bounce a little, but as long as you are near centerline or whichever side of the runway you want to be on, you're FINE. Just keep correcting EARLY, correct your plane in your mind before you even move the controls!

Sure, post your video (or whatever ya got)!

Typically, okay, but it could easily just be Hawk vs L-39 only and still be airquake. The composition of forces doesn't play a role in defining the term, IMHO. Any of the above is a bad thing to base a wishlist on, tho'!

ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)

Ask him about those 6k defensive setups then... :D Airquake is where people go to bulls and kill each other for hours on end with no real goal besides increasing KDR. It's like team deathmatch: Minimal coordination, no planning, just takeoff, head to a certain meeting point (usually bulls), kill, land, rearm, repeat. And that's where a lot of people go wrong with their wishlists, seems like many think DCS is only about this airquake scenario...Which I guess it is, mainly, in the open and public side of things.

Amen! -
Or maybe he's saying us FC3 owners are entitled to full ASM/PFM jets instead? I mean, both thoughts are equally wrong, but......That one sounds nicer, doesn't it!?

We have two F-16 Pornstars in this thread now? Nice! -
Yeah the Eagle has the same canopy lighting artifacts as the MiG-29 now. Not quite a feature...Not quite a bug, either, I think.

FYI, for YouTube inserts to work all you have to do is take the address after "watch?v=" and past that in the "[YOUTUBE]" brackets. Like this:

Any info on the specific timeframe our Eagle is from? IIRC it was narrowed down to ~2000 or so, but is there anything official on that? Thanks.

You jinxed it. :megalol:

I feel like the work that would need to be put in for JHMCS could be better spent working on far more useful improvements to the other combat avionics in the Eagle. That doesn't have to be a total rework, but even something super simple like increasing the effective range of the radar would do for now. I think a lot of the super useful stuff will need to wait until we get DCS: F-15C someday. Edit: And if/when some of those updates are done, throw in JHMCS. It's not the most critical need, but it's certainly a useful tool, not going to deny that!
-
But is he wrong? US F-15Cs have had the HMD and AIM-9X for nearly fifteen years now. Block 1. They haven't said anything about it, but operational US Hornets from 2005 certainly didn't have AIM-9X Block II! :D
-
I voted it down not because I don't want it, but because I disagree with the OP's reasoning for it. And besides, there are much better things to work on Eagle-related, like that pitch rate bug, or expanding avionics realism/historical capability, etc. I imagine there's six other people who feel similarly...?
