  2. I can post the updated templates for the FOB as well the supporting mod pack tonight. I will post both 1.5 and 2.0 templates. I will also post a much smaller Patrol base that I have been using in some missions. The patrol base does not have a helicopter pad inside and so it uses a desert box. Hopefully this will solve your issues. Jacks
  3. I personally like the idea of bases being closed for a couple of hours. It give a new dynamic to the current setup.

  5. Why would they remain in beta or alpha forever. The likes of aerosoft or just flight are experienced developers and so I don't think would struggle to progres a module past the beta stage.
  6. I think DCS is the most accurate simulator on the market and offers the highest level of fidelity plus it has ongoing development unlike many other sims. So why aren't more simulation developers developing for DCS? I keep seeing some developers creating military aircraft for FSX and ask myself WHY? Surely there better suited to combat simulator. Anyway I would be interested to hear why people think that developers producing military aircraft for FSX and P3D are not developing for DCS. Jacks

  10. Can anyone recommend the most accurate way to aim bombs? Is a dive better or it is better to fly at a set height and speed and then release the bomb when the rafter passes a certain point on the cockpit?

  16. Greg, XCom, Could the script be updated so in order to capture a base a force needs to drop a certain number of standard troops onto it? This number could be the number of remaining enemy units plus 1. Therefore a flight of three helos could capture a base under fire with 2 enemy vehicles or bunkers remaining, this would allow more ways to capture bases and would allow groups to take risks instead of the usual keeping a helo in the wings and then systematically destroying everything before signalling it in. Furthermore this feature would make the strike assets be more selective of their targets, leaving the ones less likely to inflict large amounts of damage on the helos to last. I also think this would promote target recce so a force fully knows the strength of the remaining enemy before launching their air assault under fire. On capturing these bases, the remaining enemy units would be deactivated to prevent a firefight between them and newly spawned friendly defences. Or there could be a timer function so the dropped troops need to be in the zone for a certain amount of time meaning they would require CAS until the base is fully captured. Just some ideas.........

  18. I am modelling a Medium Capacity 500lb bomb to develop my 3DS skills but require a bit of guidance. I am modelling the fins out of a plane which I then intent to thicken using the shell tool. What is the best way to get the fin to exact meet the cone and the cylindrical tail so each fin can be perfectly connected to both? I then intend to use radial symmetry to create the three remaining fins and then merge all of the objects to create one tail unit. Is it just a case of using Boolean? Also once the tail is complete, what is the best way to get it to sit precisely on the back of the bomb so the objects do not sit with each other (I want to keep them as separate objects)?   19. I thought DCS 2.0 stuttered for everyone and is a known software issue, is this not the case.
  20. I would be interested to hear more about the performance gains from different RAM speeds since mine is currently set at 1333. So at the moment, DCS is not optimised for VR at high presets? I hope this is fixed as VR is the future of DCS IMHO and I struggle to believe that a 960 should be able to run high preset VR as well as a 980Ti!
  21. +1000 Also support for later versions of 3ds since soon 2014 will not be available with a dude that licence. Gospadin, I thought the plugin still worked with the student version, certainly I recently converted a .max file to a .edm and it appears in the game.
  22. So I have managed to dull down the shiny textures by add a raytrace map to glossiness, reflection and refraction and setting glossiness to 50%, reflection to 0% and refraction to 0%. Unfortunately I have a spinning prop texture that needs to be opaque but no matter what I do in ME (including adding a raytrace opacity map and setting it to 0) in modelviewer, the spinning prop is not opaque at all. The only way to make it see through is to change the material type from default to glass but this makes it too reflective. Any ideas? Also could somebody explain then when using diffuse, ambient, glossiness and reflectiveness maps, how do the colour and numerical values under basic blinn parameters (such as diffuse, ambient, specular, opacity, glossiness, roughness etc) affect the texture if the assigned maps are controlling many of these settings?   24. I have applied textures and used 'make cool' for all the surfaces in my model and I have set diffuse, specular, glossiness and reflections as desired. In 3ds max my model looks just how I want but in model viewer and in game te textures all look very shiny and surfaces that all are transparent in 3ds max are no longer transparent in modelviewer. What am I doing wrong?
