I think it is safe to assume this project is dead which is a real shame as this is one of the most detailed and well textured models I have ever seen.

I would love to see minelaying added!

I would be interested to hear a macro development roadmap so I have an understanding as to what ED are trying to achieve with dcs and where it is heading. For example are ED planning any further development of the cold war scenario? Will any investment be put into a korean or Vietnam scenario including aircraft ground units, aircraft ships or maps. What are the plans for the WW2 elements, will it purely focus on 1944 and Normandy or will it features different periods and locations? Do ED intend to create maps large enough for late range bombing missions? Do ED plan to develop the naval aspect of DCS World? Is ED's main focus purely a modern battlefield? These are the sort of questions I would like answering so I know where the sim is heading and whether or not to further invest time and money. Basically I would like to know what ED's intent for the sim is and what they see as their priorities in terms of scenarios, features and content development, not the micro details of individual modules.

Looking to form a group For MiG-21bis Pilots
Jacks replied to CrazyPandaPilot's topic in Multiplayer
It is probably worth stating your time zone, whether or not you have a dedicated server, that kinda of thing. -
Great idea guys, pity you are US based!

So I don't have to read through 64 pages, is this script working in 1.5? I have tried to add it to a mission but it doesn't seem to work for me. Mission is attached. Any help is appreciated. Op Border Guard.miz

I am using someone else's model. So far I haven't changed anything. I am building my own custom panel for it and my friend is going to write a DCS flight model. Once it looks like the mid coild work, I will contact the original author (I.e no changes would have been made to the model at this point). If the original author is content we will continue and hopefully release on the forums, if not then it will go no further. The aim of this mod is not to produce anything but rather to learn the process and develop our coding and modelling skills.

What the best way to add mult-object models such as gauges to a centralised model such as an instrument panel. Is there a way to paste them into the same scene keeping the material properties? Also is there a way to paste just a single part from a complex model such as copying and pasting the instrument panel out of the aircraft model to work on it separately?

I would guess from this pic, the 2XMG and 2xCannon version at least.
-
Cheers mate, I am part way through my first proper project and will be building the panel soon - so will probably be asking for help!

I have been using Blender as it seems easier to use and works on my 32-bit work laptop. I am now learning 3DS Max but it is slow going. I have attached a few images of the sort of things I like to model but please don't judge the panel image as it was a 10 minute to midnight job!! Jacks

Thanks Joey, it worked a treat.

Joey, are you using Windows 10?

What version of Modelviewer is safe to use with Windows 10? Last time I downloaded ModelViewer, it crashed my system and took me two weeks to do a complete system reinstall! Keen for this not to happen again, I would like to know which version to use. Thanks in Advance.

I am working on a small mod and I have to vertically invert a number of .dds Texture maps so then line up with the models UV maps. Unfortunately when using paint.net (I don't want to buy photoshop). Most of the dds maps open fine but a small number open but only display a small part of the image. When I open these maps in the UV editor in 3DS Max, they show up fine but I can not invert the image there and resave. Does anyone know how to rectify this problem or a work around? Thanks, Jacks I have attached pictures of what the dds files look like in 3DS Max UV Editor and what they look like in paint.net.

I am interested in cockpit modelling and have started a small project to gain experience. but: When building a panel, is it built as a complete object with each gauge built into it or do people generally built each gauge individual and then import into the panel model and place it into the panel? How many vertexes should I use for cylindrical gauges? Currently I am using 32 segments per cylinder which means it does not look as smooth as I would like but it keeps the number of polys down. Also when I add a material and texture to each object, will the textures automatically be updated in the UV wrap So can applied a base colour with the material to each object then UV wrap and edit the bitmap in PS to add detail and then re-wrap? I hope this all makes sense as I am a novice. Thanks in advance.

is still possible to get a student licence for 3DS 2013 32-bit?
-
One of the reasons I have been using Blender is because it runs well on my 32-bit Work Laptop which I use AutoCAD, Sketch-Up and Bentley on. Are there any free student versions of 32-bit 3DS max which works with the EDM Plugin? On the Autodesk website I can only download 2014, 2015 and 2016 which are all 64-bit.

I agree with you Zeus, the infrastructure is not in place to support a F-117 at the moment - maybe in the future though.

Thanks discus and well done on the Caribou so far! It is project likes yours that have inspired me to start my own.

I have been slowly learning to 3D model but have found Blender much easier to use than 3DS Max but I am concerned that using Blender and then converting to a model to 3DS will result in conversion issues and Blender model will never have the same quality as a 3DS Max model due to need to use 3DS Max for the EDM plugin. Is this the case or is the conversion simple and accurate? Has anyone got a model working in DCS that was designed on Blender?

Vision - Mission Statement - Road Map
Jacks replied to Talisman_VR 's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I hope that a decent WW2 environment is not that far away given hat the growth of DCS is exponential and the more it grows, the more third party developers will be involved with the sim which would result in more aircraft, supporting models and scenery added year on year. We already have 7 WW2 aircraft on the horizon (not including the Horton, ME-262, Bearcat or Buchon) - Spitfire, P-47, P-40, Meteor, F-4U, Stuka, I-16 - the future for DCS WW2 looks bright although somewhat unbalanced! -
Thanks Pâte, I will keep an eye on this thread!

Yeah field landings would be great. I think in the loadout section you should be able arrange cargo and this has an affect on aircraft CofG and trim.
-
Paratroopers, air drops (I.e a para dropped cargo must land in zone for a unit to be resupplied), general transport duties so the Caribou must transport troops from a distant airbase to a frontline base so the helicopters can then deploy them forward.
