Hum not seeing that on my VIVE have tried looking. Only flown one mission so far though, maybe module dependent. But so far what an update! No longer any stutters on pilot eject (something I have longed for) performance seems much increased, which means clarity is increased with MS (though only tried limited missions so far). The Bf109 cockpit looks fantastic. The clarity of the cockpit is so much better. The BF109 actually looks more like it does in BOX now, only with greater depth perception! Gonna have to do more testing, to assure myself it's not all placebo but this is really looking good so far! Edit- can't see the shadow. Is anyone noticing that the trees and buildings look better as well. Like the colors have changed or something?

Head on at the same altitude/energy in a 109, I find it almost impossible to beat the spitfire! I even started a thread about this very topic recently. Okay I'm total noob in the 109 but still I think on equal alt/energy in a 109 against an AI that rarely misses its shots, it can still be very difficult to extend and escape.

Motion smoothing for me is the best thing that has happened to VR and DCS since getting it. Almost all of the modules are perfectly smooth with only a few artifacts here and there, that are more than compensated for by the fluid gameplay, and ability to increase graphics settings. With MS planes such as the 190 and 109 are not affected by propeller artifacts in VR at all, and the mustang is to a much lesser, more playable extent. This is I think because the propellers in those modules, once they get going are practically invisible anyway. The only trouble is my favorite module the spitfire, with a very heavy handed propeller is quite badly affected by motion smoothing artifacts. I know asking for the propeller to be changed so it works more like the 109's, might be impossible, but do you think devs that it might be possible to provide an option for VR users to tune it down, or try to optimize the spit so it can work better with motion smoothing/ASW? I know, probably not, due to how it would upset the rest of the DCS community not using VR who like the propeller as it is, but I just thought I would ask:)! I honestly think for DCS performance its things like this that will improve the VR experience, perhaps even more than the coming VR optimizations and Vulkan. With MS on I find the game runs as well as a normal game.

I find killing 109s in my spitfire against the AI much easier than killing spitfires in my 109. I’m inexperienced with boom and zoom though but still it’s much easier than you seem to think
-
Listening to ‘spitfire a very British love story’ on audible right now, where it is mentioned that the real spitfire pilots faced the same problem as you, that the enemy would never fight in the way they wanted using boom and zoom, but that the spits were difficult for the Germans to nail due to their agility. Haven’t tried it myself but I think chucks guide recommends using the spitfire as an energy fighter gaining an altitude advantage and using boom and zoom in much the same way you are supposed to use the German planes. I don’t know if that is feasible in MP environment though...

[NO BUG] Something wrong with my dora (inability to climb)
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Bugs and Problems
You won't see it on a video it just makes my jetseat vibrate as if going into a stall or high G when none such a thing exists. -
I agree. Although many tell me that the other WW2 sim is better I personally find it hard to drag myself away from DCS and play that game instead, because after flying the DCS world war 2 modules nothing else comes close. Spitfire especially. Once the damage models and a few performance optimization’s land (although motion smoothing on the vive has been incredible to that end) it will in my opinion be the king of WW2 flight sim. Defi going in the right direction, but I already love it!

I seem to recall when the update dropped that explosions were even better than now but I think they got scaled back for performance reasons. Anyone remember that or am I just crazy?

[REPORTED]Fast Mission Generator WWII Setting?
Wolf8312 replied to Cool-Hand's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
There are a lot of missions to keep me busy found online and made myself, but I would love a simple mission generator that could create simple scenarios such as airfield attack, and things like that. -
I agree in spirit but at the moment I'm just playing scenarios that barely reeally qualify as missions, so just want to know how to improve my dogfighting. I knew german planes were energy fighters that you were not supposed to turn with them, but was wondering if it was maybe possible to sap the spitfires energy by bringing him down low taking evasive action, and then when he's depleted extend and come back at him. Or was this possible in RL? Cause it often happens to me against the AI, but if I try it Vs the AI it's nowhere near as successful, because as I said he makes few mistakes shooting wise. Or basically if there was any possibility beside constant B and Z tactics. But this is because sometimes you will get caught unaware, with the same energy and the same altitude, so it seems to me under such conditions the spit has a massive advantage especially in game, due to the present AI and damage model. Also wanted to know if there was any real possibility of success in a german plane, if not using B and Z tactics
-
Right okay got. It's pretty much boom n zoom, or GTFO. I have noticed on some 109 instant action missions I begin at altitude. Yep right 'extend' haha! Now I know that it bothers you I'm going to say it just to annoy you from now on! :pilotfly: Better go an practice this so called Immelmann maneuver now! Thanks for the tips. Just shot down a couple of mustangs with B and Z, so getting better, but P51 is easier than the spit!

I guess they could give away one of the Helicopters I paid full price for lol! But that might mean persuading the company who made them to give away their module for free! Can't imagine they would have a problem with that! Don't think OP meant it in the spirit of wanting free stuff, but was genuinely thinking that it might be a way of attracting players who have never tried helicopters before. I don't know how profitable things like this are, in terms of attracting new players. People can, or should learn one module, and stick with it for a very long time, but I must admit once I got the helicopter bug I did end up buying all of the heli modules, so I won't say its a ludicrous idea in theory, or worthy of ridicule because that's pretty much the model DCS has always used for planes and the sim itself.... Designing one from the ground up specifically for this purpose though? Now? With all that is going on? Yeah Im gonna say don't do that! Focus on loyal customers (not stinking free loaders hehe) and other things that badly need fixing!

AI exclusively at the moment. AI exclusively at the moment. Let me be a bit more clear. I'm talking about say on an instant action mission. Both planes meet at the same altitude so what does the BF109 do once he has missed a head to head? He musn't turn back but must attempt to escape, by flying up and away? Or down and then up again after gaining more speed? If I try up, the spit seems to have no problem catching me, even if I am turning and climbing in an attempt to force him to try a deflection. I think it might just be a problem with the AI and damage model at the moment (don't get me wrong I do suck too) that once they have you, they can snipe and rip your wings off with basically one burst. Sorry to be such a noob but can someone spell it out, in that situation, what exactly would you yourself do to escape, and how exactly you would fly? I can never seem to manage it, although I have no such problem in the spitfire but thats because it can turn so well and the AI seems to have a similar problem as I do when in a 109 and fighting a spitfire. The 109 should be boom and zoom, but at an eqaul altitude, there can be no boom and no zoom, so my only option seems to be to escape and climb, but the spitfire although not as fast, is no slouch over short distances, and the AI doesent miss very much!

In a one on one engagement in a german plane (190/109) VS a spitfire does the spit have a large advantage generally? I really can't seem to win against the spits in the german planes, and would also like to know the best tactics for escaping once I need space to get up and away from them. The enemy always seems to catch me when I try to escape by flying up and away (turning for deflection) from them to gain altitude, and I never seem to be able to escape. Is it generally a pretty daunting task to beat a 109/190 in an engagement where both planes are at the same alt? Cause I'm not really able to B and Z under such conditions am I? Any pointers?

Doh! Guess I'm stuck with it...

[NO BUG] Something wrong with my dora (inability to climb)
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think it might be a bug with my jetseat, combined with falling out of practice with the dora, and in love with the spitfire. I think maybe I forgot how agile it isnt? But yeah jetseat is going nuts! Yeah must be jetseat bug- I am flying level without any throttle input whatsoever and its acting like I am at full power! Don't know why it would only affect the dora though. -
I only loaded and instant action mission so I never changed anything and it should all have been set up for me. As soon as mission starts my jetseat is going crazy as if I am experiencing some kind of G force or resistance, and my plane can not climb at all, it is basically just a dead duck, that quickly gets shot down. It's as if I am flying a dead weight. Any ideas what might have gone wrong? Have never experienced this before!

Why wasn't the fact it wont work with VR made clear on the web page at which I purchased it? I really feel I am entitled to a refund in this case as, it is not acceptable. If it doesent work with VR that fact should have been made clear in big red letters! Will it be possible for VR users to get a refund?

Pixel density vs MSAA vs supersampling: mid-level GPU
Wolf8312 replied to DeltaMike's topic in Virtual Reality
But are you still in reprojection most of the time? I used to OC my CPU to 5ghz cause I thought it was giving me big gains, but one day found I had disabled it and hadn't even noticed! What are the numbers FPS wise with the 2080TI compared to the 1080Ti in DCS. Say in normandy down low or something? -
Ah thanks man makes sense! Can't remember that from the tutorial!
-
Never have this problem unless flying high, but after a certain point on a campaign mission when trying to gain altitude, I find my engines will lose power and the fuel pressure warning light will come on. So I use the hand pump and get things going again, only for the problem to repeat if I again try to gain altitude. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
-
yep seems I'm not the only one. One side of the cockpit (upon which I think the sun is shining) is terribly washed out. Really looks bad!

Pixel density vs MSAA vs supersampling: mid-level GPU
Wolf8312 replied to DeltaMike's topic in Virtual Reality
It means that whether on a 1070 or 2080 ti you'll still be ball's deep into reprojection. -
How to remove units for VR performance?
Wolf8312 replied to Wolf8312's topic in Spitfire LF Mk.IX The Big Show Campaign
Yeah seems fine with or without to be honest as long as I use reasonable graphics settings. I came from the epsom campaign you see, which has so much flak/AA (over built up areas too) that in VR it badly hampered fluidity (F10 or not), but I must say my first play through of the big show campaign was very smooth, and very immersive! It also uses dynamic weather, rather than cloud density (which in VR causes constant fps drops/flashes) which meant I didn't need to go into the editor and turn off all weather settings. I will definately purchase any campaigns you make in the future, as I really loved it, and really felt as if I was in the battle of Britain! Please keep VR users in mind though when designing future missions. Large numbers of planes doesen't really matter, but I think too much flak can be a problem (I suspect it is the smoke). Thanks again for your efforts.
