A friend actually paid me $10 to buy Arma3 in the sale. I'd been unimpressed with Bohemia's clunky game engine in the past (DayZ standalone), but did have fond memories of the original Operation Flashpoint. Anyway I bought it, and sure enough wasn't overly impressed. For a moment a was unsure if I should get Arma2 or Arma3. I noticed several Steam reviews from users who'd played both that said that they preferred the campaign and setting of Arma2 but Arma3 had the better game engine.

I don't want to encourage a huge rant (so please keep it civilised) but rather want to see what the general consensus is on this. As many of you will know the new Ka-50 campaign comes with fantasy country names; The Republic vs The Butcher. I'm curious to know if this will become the norm for future DLC campaigns. My personal opinion is that we fly simulators to be immersed in a reality that we can't normally experience. All the simulators (and many other genres, for example WWII shooters) I've played to date use the correct country names. History happened and censorship doesn't change that. Fantasy has it's place in sci-fi space sims set on other planets and I can enjoy those games to. But should England and Germany be given different names for a Battle of Britain simulator? DCS is great and I'll continue to enjoy it either way. But if country's names are now something ED need to censor to avoid upsetting the few, I'll simply not buy the DLC campaigns and continue to create my own missions and/or fly multiplayer.

I fly with cockpit language and audio in Russian. Will the voiceovers for this campaign be in English? Because I see localisation is EN. Thanks.

Old enough to wear big boy pants? Yes, I'm a fan of Eagle Dynamics. They gave me DCS World for free. They gave me 2 aircraft for free in which I've had hours of fun. And for the price of a regular game (that I might complete in 10 - 15 hours and throw to one side), I got THE most realistic PC combat helicopter sim and free updates for the last 6 years. If ED packed their bags and left us all today, I've had my moneys worth. There's nothing wrong in making polite requests for certain features or fixes, but spitting your dummy out and stomping your feet? ...Really? Some peoples expectations of others just boggles my mind. :huh:

+1 for stock. With EDs subject knowledge and commitment to realism, I trust what they release is close enough that I don't need mods.

Before I could just browse to the mission file (*.miz) we wanted to play and select it. Now it's asking for a *.lst file. How do I create this? What is the format?

I'm working away from home for the next few weeks and have just got a colleague into DCS. I'm itching to show him the Ka-50, but my install disc and code for original BS are at home. And of course I can't install BS2 upgrade through the module manager until BS is installed and activated. I'm wondering if one of the ED staff would have access to it and could PM it to me or something. I think he'll buy something when the next sales on anyway. My work is done. :D

I see the date for this download is 2011. Would be useful for all if ED included something like this as part of the stock install and gave it a once over every year. Anyway, this is very helpful so thanks for providing the link and also to the original uploader.

I'm trying to make an SA-3 site using the 5P73 launcher. I've tried adding the other two S-125 units (Georgian) and increasing skill to high but it never fires when I fly over. Do I need P-19 and SNR? Am I missing some components? Is there anywhere I can find what I need for each kind of SAM battery and other multi unit setups (Such as FARPs) without posting a question for each one? Perhaps someone has already shared templates for some of the popular ones? Would be great if there was some way to see exactly what each unit does inside the mission editor without exiting to the encyclopedia or alt-tabbing to wiki it. I searched "S-125" and also "templates" and couldn't find what I needed.

What Eagle Dynamics describes as Beta, many other software developers would push out as final release. I'd also like to point out you may be waiting several months for a product to come out of Beta only for them to add a few small details to coincide with the next DCS World update. From my own experience, every module released (Combined Arms aside), does in the end become something very complete and fine tuned. In short, I wouldn't let the Beta tag put you off when it comes to DCS modules. Also, whilst manuals are no doubt important, you'll nearly always find plenty of YouTube videos posted by the devs and community explaining the various systems in detail. I would like to see MiG-29 for DCS World first. You F-15 drivers had your Flaming Cliffs DCS cake first. You can't expect to have it first and also the best. :music_whistling:

Out of all the Russian aircraft, mostly I'd like a MiG-29. Even an early variant would be great. Really surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for it. I blame the Su-27. :glare:

Most people prefer to dominate in a front runner rather than be challenged in an underdog. Perhaps more mud mover servers are needed. Or with just limited slots (say 2/3 either side for CAP). Reference OP, are you trying to remove trees so the enemy doesn't have an advantage (being able to see/shoot through them) or to gain fps?
