  1. iRacing are currently deploying their Season 2 build. One of the new features is described below: "Virtual Reality – A form of nVidia’s simultaneous multi-projection, named Single Pass Stereo (SPS), has been added to help optimize VR rendering. SPS allows the Simulator to render the scene for one eye, and then GPU, via shaders and SPS, create the image for the other eye, without the Simulator needing to submit the entire scene a second time. This reduces the CPU load of the rendering thread and increases the frame rate, especially for the largest and most complex scenes when the frame rate would be lowest. – – SPS requires a supporting nVidia GPU with a newer device driver installed. GTX1000 and GTX2000 series GPUs, with device drivers after v390 support it. The option is called “SPS” on the Graphics Options screen, and it will be enabled by default if your device driver reports that your GPU supports it. If the SPS option is disabled in the Graphics Options screen, and you have a supported GPU, try a newer device driver. " Do we already have this in DCS World? If not, is it something that could be used in the near future? I recently bought a new laptop with an i7-9700K and a RTX 2070 thinking it would solve all my VR performance problems. How wrong was I?! I'm afraid if we wait for hardware to catch up with the VR headsets, we'll be waiting another 2 or 3 generations of video card. I'm praying something can be done in terms of clever optimisations; either with SteamVR or within DCS World. Experiencing the potential of VR has made me not want to fly in 2D anymore. At the same time, I'm unable to accept the lowered visual fidelity. Cheers.
  2. No. The labels are functional to some degree at least. For example, top-right thumb button "привед к гориз" (горизонт) matches the top-right in-game thumb button on the MiG-29 and Su-27. Literally translated it means "Lead to horizon", the meaning being transition to level flight. "управл(ение) стробом" also marries up with the in-game controller and means Gate Control. Top centre hat switch has a label underneath it, "маневр" -which from my limited Russian knowledge would mean Manouver, and it's in the traditional place for trim control. So, the one's I've figured out so far make sense. Not just for 'cool' factor. I'd like to try mapping my controls as per the labels and see how well that works for me. :book:
  3. Has anyone posted a translation of the Russian text printed on the CM version of the T-50? Difficult to use Google Translate with technical stuff, especially when abbreviated.
  4. I'm not using my friends Rift anymore but it ran well with default 'Low' setting, then I turned some stuff up to medium and it still ran ok (in a quick mission). In the Vive, I need to manually set all to the lowest. The SDE effect wasn't an issue for me. But jagged edges really are noticeable when you come from a high res monitor. And because of that, your priority will be getting supersampling as high as possible while maintaining playable frame rates. Without any supersampling, it's like you're playing on a 1990's arcade system. :D I don't think a screenshot will give you the right impression. You'll need to have the headset on to know what it's like. I'm still using my Vive with the 970m. Just not in DCS World. IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad works well even in co-op games with Balanced overall and a mixture of medium/low settings, supersampling set at 110%. Been flying that almost daily. I've tried going back to the monitor with Ultra/High settings and can't. For me, it's worth giving up that visual clarity for the feeling of immersion and actually being in the cockpit. Only VR can really give you that.
  5. If the 980m is really 32% better than the 970m, go for it. I can't say for certain if you'll find acceptable settings in the Vive, but you should do in the Rift. Plus price of the Rift is very low now. My overall feeling though is that the Vive is a better quality product and I prefer the Steam VR interface. Might be worth checking your CPU to. I have i7 4790K and 16GB of RAM.
  6. I just want to add to this thread. After seeing my friends Rift work smoothly, I bought a Vive. On the Vive I can just barely run smooth with EVERYTHING turned off/lowest setting and 100% resolution (ie. no extra pixel density). And it's so harsh an image on the eyes I decided I wouldn't play in VR until getting a new laptop. I don't regret buying the Vive at all. I've used it on my more powerful desktop system at home and very pleased with it. But definitely, if you want VR just for DCS and you have low system spec, the Rift is a better option.
  7. I thought if you're stable at 45 fps, ASW mode 4 (automatic) would give you 90 fps by doubling. I noticed very few artifacts when I used it so it doesn't bother me to have it turned on. My next gaming laptop will likely cost me over £2,000; that's a hefty price to go from medium preset to high preset and I work away most the of year so cheaper desktop upgrades aren't an option for me.
  8. What's your CPU and RAM? Have you tried cycling through the different ASW modes?
  9. The options I've been testing with are similar to yours, 1.2 pixel density and medium preset. It must be the ASW (frame doubling) working it's magic. If I turn ASW off, I do get some stutter as I move my head around. Also, perhaps my 6GB VRAM and 16GB RAM are keeping things moving nicely. I can't say for sure but based on my experience with my friends Rift, I ordered a Vive, content that I can enjoy it with my current setup (at least short term until upgrading). Yeah, it's strange... I've seen the Passmark benchmarks for 970 vs 970m. Note that I haven't tried multiplayer or heavy load server but for instant action and simple single player missions it's smooth enough. I can't get the in-game frame counter to work in VR despite remapping it -anyone know how to fix this?
  10. You can run VR perfectly well on less than a 970. Your card is slightly slower than mine, so can't say for sure. This might give you some hope. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=222525
  11. Found a lot of threads discussing ASW but not a single one that told me what ASW stands for -can someone throw me a bone?
  12. Frame rate counter isn't working for me, even when I remap it to another key.
  13. Thanks. I'll try to get an fps overlay to work (perhaps the native one), so I can be more objective on those framerates.
  14. After reading recently that Oculus and HTCs Gen. 2 VR headsets may be a long way off, I've been contemplating getting a HTC Vive. Trouble is my laptop (specs below) is 3 years old. So whilst the cost of a HTC Vive is reasonable, the cost of a Vive AND new gaming laptop really isn't. My friend has an Oculus Rift and he suggested I try it. I think the universally agreed VR minimum is a GTX 970. Considering that, according to Passmark, the GTX 970m has half the performance of the 970 (4089 vs 8596) I was expecting a slideshow. Well... it definitely wasn't a slideshow, but it wasn't quite playable either (I tend to favour framerate over graphic fidelity). My afterburner overlay wasn't showing up in the headset but if I was to guess, I'd say I was in the region of 20 - 25 fps. BUT... I'd not even adjusted my graphics settings down yet from how I run the game (High preset) in 1080p. So, next I reduced everything to bare minimum and tried again. Now, it was silky smooth, so much so that I felt I could give the Medium preset a go. At Medium, the sim is perfectly enjoyable (I would guess 40 - 45 fps). I'll admit, I did only run the instant action free flight in the MiG-29S so there wasn't a heavy unit count but anyway, it's playable -on a 3 year old laptop. Subsequently, I tried iRacing straight afterwards which also ran perfectly fine. And these two sims are the main reason I want a VR headset. I'm sure I will struggle with a AAA game such as Skyrim VR or Doom VR but now I'm wondering if the recommended minimum GTX 970 (desktop) is really a good recommendation. It seems you can enjoy VR with much less! ...the laptop upgrade can come later at least. My specs: Windows 10 Pro Intel Core i7-4790K 16GB RAM GTX 970M (6GB VRAM) Samsung 950 Pro SSD
  15. I remember after the A-10C release. The changelogs were just full of A-10C, which is great.. if you're an A-10C pilot. But being a Shark enthusiast, I was left disappointed each time. And the Shark had a few serious issues back then. I think they've got a good balance at the moment. And I'm really impressed at the rate in which fixes and updates are coming. bi-weekly is just great!
  16. I have an MT-50 base for sale, hardly used. I work (and do most of my flying) away from home and it's a bit of a lump to kart backwards and forwards. Unfortunately, because I'm away right now, I won't be able to dispatch it until the end of the month. PM me to make an offer. If it doesn't sell here it will go on eBay.
  17. I would also really like more information on the Loadout screen. A tooltip with weapon description would be great. At the moment, I quite often have to exit to the encyclopedia, or even do a google search to find out the exact purpose of a weapons variants.
  18. Is there a list of which aircraft currently have rain drop effect?
  19. Just had a go in the Su-25T and Su-27 with my recently purchased msffb2 and noticed the force feedback is centering the stick off to the right. So basically, if I relax my grip the aircraft banks right. The only way I'm able to fly straight is by applying some force to the left and fight the force feedback. Has anyone else experienced this. Mostly have a msffb2 for helicopter flight and it works for this perfectly. But something strange going on in the fixed wing. Or perhaps a faulty stick? Hopefully not.
  20. Just wanted to say thanks for this  Looking forward to ED's new textures but this will bridge the gap nicely.
  21. The options aren't all there. What about 'No, I want them to focus on the Mi-24 and AH-1', for those not interested in either F4 or F16. If you're going to run a poll, it should be something the entire community can vote in. So, you see the overall picture. More simply: Prioritize the F4 Prioritize the F16 Prioritize the Mi-24 Prioritize the AH-1 Prioritize others
  22. Unequal Resistance on the Roll Axis I've had my T-50CM a couple of months now. One thing I've noticed, there seems slightly more resistance when I move the stick right compared with when I move the stick left. It's more pronounced near the centre position. Yesterday, I swapped out the medium spring for the soft spring but it's still the same. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if it might be cam related. I thought about swapping the roll cam for the pitch cam to narrow it down but the stories of issues with thread lock are putting me off.
  23. Is it just me or is this mission far too dark? I couldn't see anything apart from the gates. There was no possible way for me to see any target at the end of the gates. Also, the bad weather landing; You're never instructed to radio the tower. And until you radio the tower it's impossible to see the strip (because they need to turn the lights on). I flew around several times before I realized this.
  24. Thanks, that seemed to work. I'd deleted those folders previously, but not since the most recent updates.
