Black Shark 3 official photos.
martinistripes replied to ThorBrasil's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
How many free updates do you feel entitled to for the price of a meal out? 5 years? 10 years? Not to mention all the free updates to DCS World core to since you bought the module. Meanwhile the Total War series and Call of Duty developers, churn out the same crap every couple of years and the masses go nuts for it at full price. The chaps at ED have bills to pay to. What's the other option for them? Would you prefer to pay monthly subscription? And just continually making sales through "new aircraft" doesn't work. 2008 module will not look right next to a 2018 module if there are no big updates or overhauls. -

If you have evidence against teapot orbiting earth please post it here. You don't? Oh, therefore it must exist. Good logic. -
I posted a similar question in the Heatblur sub-forum and got no reply, despite a bump. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=282443&highlight=Texture+sizes

Will there be a $80 dollar high fidelity AH64D Longbow?
martinistripes replied to AH64D's topic in DCS Core Wish List
A for me. I want to be Nicolas Cage. :D -
I've been doing some testing with various loudouts. I made columns comprised of alternating Leopard 1A3 MBT and M113 APC, static on the road. 8 units total per column. And then tried to destroy them in single passes. There are 4 separate columns to test the various weapons on running along the road west to east. After doing a bit of reading on the various cluster sub munitions available in DCS World, I thought some configuration of the PTAB would be the obvious choice. In DCS, I found all PTAB munitions were mostly ineffective against the MBTs and only moderately effective against the APCs. I later tried FAB 500 and rockets with similar results; very rarely did I get an MBT kill. I've attached the test mission if anyone wants to try it with a different loadout. If you can kill a column in a single pass share the track and let me know what you used please. PTAB Test.miz

Help me survive Cold War Warrior Mission #1
martinistripes replied to martinistripes's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
That was helpful. 1) Make use of the mission planner. (I wasn't using it since I felt it was cheating to know exactly where everything was.) 2) Change the default loadout; no requirement for laser guided missiles. 3) Make one pass and get out, in a direction away from the SAM. Thanks  -
When I arrive at the target area on Mission 1, I'm getting annihilated. I think mostly by Roland ADS. Would just like to know if anyone has good advice for surviving long enough to empty my weapon stations? I've got DOTS turned on to compensate for low visibility on my 17" laptop screen, so I can make out where ground targets are, but no idea which are tanks and which are air defence systems. I'm also popping countermeasures almost constantly. Feels like I was dropped in at the deep end. I've had maybe 5 attempts now and starting to get tired of the long flight out from Sochi. :helpsmilie:

Unanswered question regarding terrain in Ugra forum...
martinistripes replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: Syria Map
I get what what you mean. It's visible in the DCS: Syria Map - Bekaa Valley on YT at 19:16. It's not finished and I've not used it, so a bit early to be picking out problems. I would also imagine this is core ED code, rather than Urga Media's methods. Screenshot in previous post is very complimentary. -
I see there's a separate Switches volume slider now, so seems I can adjust to my liking anyway :D

Just to add. I was flying in 2D just now and using the NUMPAD to look around. Several times, I pressed a NUMPAD key (for example to look left) and there was lagged response. A few times, I held the key because there was no immediate response, then it would catch up and overshoot. Not sure how or even if this is joystick related now.
-
I've also experienced significant input lag in the Tomcat. Specifically in the guns and sidewinder tutorial. At times I pulled the trigger whilst my pipper was on the target and the rounds came out a second or two later causing me to miss. Also noticed it with roll and pitch input. My DCS install was recently cleaned and repaired after a fresh OS install. I do have VR Performance Mod now, but that's all. Haven't noticed lag with other modules. I don't have the MiG-21 so can't comment there.

I found some threads about having a low texture option for the F-14. I'm just curious what size textures are used in relation to each of the in-game 'Textures' settings? For example, is it: High 2048 Med 1024 Low 512 ? Also, what texture size is used for Terrain with High/Low setting? Is it standard across all maps? Does anyone know why there's no medium setting for terrain? -this really messes with my OCD :lol:

I wouldn't call 30 - 45fps 'stable' and dips down to 30fps mean I need to lower some settings. My aim when tuning is always to hold 45 with framerate smoothing forced on. It is all subjective though and I know some will enjoy the sim with lower framerates. I was recently doing some testing with the F-14B and the Su-33 (System specs in my sig). Using the VR Performance mod and 120% SteamVR SS, I tweaked my in-game settings so I was able to hold 45fps with two Su-33s on the deck of the new Kuznetsov while looking around in all directions. I then loaded into a separate mission with two F-14Bs on the deck of the George Washington. My fps did not rise above 30 and in some instance dropped into the high 20s when looking down into the cockpit. The first scenario is playable, the second definitely isn't. I'm not bashing HeatBlur for this and appreciate what IronMike has said about trade offs. In a year or two, when we're running 3080s or even 4080s, we'll be thankful that the module was built with more detailed geometry and textures. For me now though (at least with this module), I have to wait or forget VR exists and fly in 2D.

Are the sound levels realistic by default? I can clearly hear the RIO pressing buttons and flicking switches. Seems unlikely with a helmet on, and the engines running. Been flying ED stuff for a long time but this is the first bit of 3rd party developer content I own. Really enjoying the module and attention to detail in the cockpit.

I believe the ED are working hard on performance optimisations (amongst other things) before releasing 2.5.6 to stable version. Many players have been disappointed with performance in 2.5.6.

Thank you. Much appreciated! :) -
During Mission 1 familiarisation flight, the Mi-24 lead exhibits strange behaviour, bobbing up and down passing over the forest near where the Mi-8 wreckage is noted. Also, flying dangerously low in places for no apparent reason. Several times I was expecting him to hit a tree. Mission 2 after finishing the mission and arriving at the FARP, there was some shader glitch around the left hand HLS (as you approach from the correct direction using the T marker). It might be that, with the age of this campaign, it needs a full play through by the dev team to tidy up other oddities/bugs.

Remember, the cockpit is in open beta and not release version. It's not necessarily finalised and everyone is making a big noise already.

VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
martinistripes replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I probably wouldn't bother with mods if I had your system, but then I'm guessing the Reverb is very demanding.
