I've seen a thread where someone was claiming it's not realistic for the RWR to show 4 solid lights with a lock up, as per having translated the Russian mig21 operators manual. Is this what you're referring to? Edited: Nevermind, I googled and found the bugtracker you mentioned, that's a very interesting page.

I've definitely had no luck binding the radio channels to the joystick in game, they're totally greyed out for everything but the keyboard. I remapped those ones with autohotkey as a solution.

Blind leading the blind? TM Warthog Toggles.
FeistyLemur replied to FeistyLemur's topic in MiG-21Bis
I was using the sticky thread above for the method of setting up the WH throttle for mig 21. The one titled "TM Warthog Keybinds for 3 and 2 position switches" The methodology for how I was adding it was to take the section with the alternate commands and paste it into the existing "default.lua" joystick file. Rather than replacing the whole file, just to avoid any oddness with the defaults file changing in a patch versus the one provided for download in that thread. I've always had problems with the buttons timing out as described though in using that file. Plus I could never figure out a way to get the throttle stop lock to work right. Not sure what I might have been doing wrong if anything. If there's a better methodology for utilizing these kind of toggles than described in that thread I wouldn't mind reading about it. Autohotkey works great, but it would still be more seamless to have it done right in game via lua configuration. My homemade toggle switch box is using a board from desktop aviator that uses pulse generation to send separate 250ms pulses on up/down, which is also built on Leo Bodnar parts. So I never have to worry about it, but the downside is it uses 2 buttons up for each switch, so you get less switches per board. -
Tooltip makes it sound like it makes the engine less easy to flame out.

So as a TM warthog user I've used the above Lua modifications for some time on the spst switches of the warthog to make it work with mig21. The thing I don't like about this is the keys time out after a long time. Example I bind the "Alternate Air to Air mode" to my bottom left switch labeled EAC. After flying for a while with the switch up, flipping it down does nothing and i have to flip it back up and down again to make it register. Annoying. Also having to edit the config file with every update is annoying. So, on to the moral of the story, I got into using Vaicom, which is really neat, and it necessitates using Autohotkey or Target to bind keyboard controls to the stick buttons. I absolutely can't stand target, and I resisted the idea of starting even more stuff before starting the game, but I'm really loving autohotkey so far for this purpose. I looked it up and found someone elses solution who was using a Leo Bodnar board with the same kind of toggles and it works spectacularly well with the warthog. Most importantly, it never times out, and the switches are always extremely responsive. Very pleased with the results after a little work. And it's future proof because it works well with any keyboard command. I'm a complete novice with the software, so anyone who has more experience with it feel free to offer suggestions on improvement, but this below works really well for the WH switches. ; --- HOTAS WH Throttle Button 29 3Joy29:: ; Sets for Device 3 button 29 Send +#e ; Send throttle stop toggle SetTimer, WaitForButtonUp29, 10 return WaitForButtonUp29: if GetKeyState("3Joy29") return Send +#e ; Send throttle stop toggle SetTimer, WaitForButtonUp29, off return The above for example makes the throttle stop work properly when moving the throttle in and out of the latch position. This same layout works for every one of the always on toggles on the throttle, and works quite well I might add. You will have to get the correct device ID for the throttle, mine was "3Joy" or 3rd joystick. I highly recommend trying it. I find it much less intrusive to use than target. You just double click your script after and it runs in the system tray, right click and end to kill it. http://www.autohotkey.com Also recommend post #2 in this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=151296 in regards to the linked test script to find your stick ID, and also to consider trying out Vaicom, it's pretty fun to use and works surprisingly well.

What's happening to the RWR and ASP?

I've had some quirky things going on with stick responsiveness. In 1.5.2 I frequently had them not respond. I sort of concluded clicking the booster switch on and off a bunch of times to make sure it was responsive seemed to help that. I have occasionally had some situations where my stick stops responding properly, but nothing I can really pin down to what's going on. For the most part I'm really happy with 1.5.3 and enjoying spending some time flying my 21. I even got Vaicom going and that's really a lot of fun to use.
-
Unfortunately it didn't. I was sure wishing it did though because it was really hard to land that thing when it would suddenly start yawing back and forth all over the place if you made the wrong move with the stick.

2016 options for headtracking with low latency
FeistyLemur replied to Archades's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A word regarding track IR. I've had track ir 5 for quite a while now. I was using it with the bundled reflective clip on a hat. For the longest time I stayed away from the Trackclip pro that emits IR and puts the sensor in passive mode. The reason being the highly negative reviews about it's durability. Well let me tell you, I wish I never listened. It may not be the most durable but the difference in how responsive and accurate it is becomes out of this world. There isn't even a comparison to me. As a result I was also able to turn the smoothness down considerably and it's rock stable, with no noticeable lag to me, and just an amazing experience all around. My advice is don't even hesitate, go with trackir5 with the clip, it's worth every penny as far as i'm concerned. The learning curve of setting up a profile just right is a bit to get used to but once you've got it it's amazing. I can't ever see a need for the occulus. giving up the ability to see the stick, throttle, and keyboard is a terrible trade to me. Not to mention the price. However, adding a note, like someone else mentioned, it feels less great at low frame rate. I have no framerate problems so it feels great, but if you have consistently less than 60fps you might not enjoy it as much given your sensitivity to lag. Only thing I can say, is upgrade if you need to and you can, it's well worth it for the enjoyment. I just got Vaicom going as well and it adds even more immersion and works unbelievably well once you pass the learning curve of the commands. -

[Request] Commands for Turn Weapon Selector Right/Left
FeistyLemur replied to zaelu's topic in MiG-21Bis
Looking forward to using this, but mine is greyed out on everything but the keyboard. It won't let me choose any of my other devices to bind keys. Anyone know what to do about this? -
Now, before you judge the condition of my plane, keep in mind this is after I tried the new dogfighting tactic of cutting off the opponents wing with my rudder... Plus side, I won. Landing with only my nose gear, no rudder, and having to hold the stick at 3/4 deflection to fly semi straight with stabilizing autopilot on was interesting. But I brought it down in one piece! well the piece that I was left attached to anyway.

Another note on this. I played for about 2 hours uninterrupted just now on the 104 server in the KA-50 engaging ground targets. Last night I couldn't even make it into the combat area in the SU-27. Granted the population of the server was also very low tonight, so it's not the greatest test.
-
It was on, i tried turning it off, I went in and promptly crashed in multiplayer within minutes of taking off. No improvement. I was playing just now on the 104 server. I flew a whole sortie in the mig 21 and unfortunately got shot down. But was able to fly for quite some time in it. I switched to the su27 and took off, froze up and crashed by the time I got half way to the bullseye. I've only managed to fly an entire mission takeoff to landing in the 27 that I can think of once since I've been playing this month. I have been away for a while and only just picked it up on this particular version. The last time I played multiplayer was probably December on the earlier 1.5.x versions
-
Ill try disabling superfectch just to try it. The crashes I've had have often if not exclusively been on the 104th server.

It's an i7 4770k with 16 gigs of ram, Windows 10, Asus Maximus VI extreme MB, Xonar STX sound card, Intel 525 series 480gb ssd, Asus Nvidia Titan X 12Gb using nvidia whql driver 361.75 I also use a TM warthog stick and throttle along with MFG crosswind pedals, trackIR 5, and a custom toggle switch box based on one of the usb controller boards by desktop aviator. I'm also using a gsync monitor with gsync enabled in both full screen and windowed mode if that's worth noting, the Asus PG278q.

I'm getting freezing in multiplayer frequently. It's happened in the air, and sitting on the ground right at the start. It just crashes to desktop with DCS has stopped working. I've hopefully attached the correct logs that are of use for the crashes I've experienced tonight. I was flying the SU 27 from the flaming cliffs collection when the most problems were occurring. Mig_21bis is the funnest module to fly in DCS
FeistyLemur replied to DaveRindner's topic in MiG-21Bis
I've taken a little break to let 1.5 get a little more work into it. That and I also have spent quite some time in the Black Shark. The 21 is sure looking good the last few days I've been flying it again. (I wish my landings were still looking as good cause those are sure rusty). It's still my favorite module despite my love for the Black Shark as well. It's fun I think because it's easy enough to learn but just hard enough to master that it makes it a fun challenge, I think it's a perfect introduction module to DCS, but then I'm biased because it was my introduction module to DCS. There aren't as many systems to overwhelm you like the A-10 for example. It really is like a flying AK-47. It's simple, straightforward, and has the Soviet beautiful kind of ugly to it. Being as fast and agile as it is doesn't hurt the fun factor either. -

Huh, have to try. Is that correct behavior? I'm not exactly a physicist here.
