  1. Simulating the environment is just as important as simulating the aircraft, the systems the missiles... Imagine the F1 sim if they left out the commentators, the people in the stands the helicopters and blimps in the sky? Minor things really but doing environments well does a lot of good. I imagine those who poo-poo a decent dynamic weather system would rather play the version with it, than without it, all other things being equal.
  2. Other than be a backup pilot and guide the antitank missiles, what are the responsibilities of the guy up front (what is he called, a WSO?)
  3. My guess is that the WCS does not have enough computing power to calculate both the impact points of the bombs + the gun at the same time.
  4. That doesn't mean it wouldn't bend AT ALL. You could assume it wouldn't bend much but to say it wouldn't bend at all sounds absurd. It's still made out of aluminum, not tungsten. As anecdotal is it may be, I've worked alongside vets of the first Iraq war and one commented on how the wings on the A10s always looked like they were folding up whenever they pulled out of their attack runs. I'm inclined to believe his "folding up" description to be an embellishment, but otherwise he described wing flex on an A10. And other members on the forum have described observing wing flex as well, at airshows with the A10, to the point that they describe panels popping off the wing, canceling the A10 from further participating in the airshow that day. So am I saying that they need to flex 90 degrees in a 10 degree bank turn? No. Should they flex a little? I don't see why not.
  5. I'm more curious what the purpose of this a/g mixed gun switch is. Cause it makes sense to couple guns and rockets because they're both forward firing, but the mixed a/g switch setting doesn't matter with rockets. But the switch works with bombs, which makes no sense to me cause the gun is forward firing and the bombs are dropped and even then you are not given a gun cue to aim.
  6. I'm confused how to utilize both gun and air to ground ordinance in a attack run. With Zuni rockets, it seems like you cannot use the gun as the trigger now fires the forward facing rockets. In bombing mode, it seems like you can use the gun when the mixed a/g gun is switched to on, but is completely ineffective because the HUD does not provide any cue that tells you where the shells will strike. Plus because you are bombing, your firing window is extremely small, as you don't want to be blasted by your own bombs but firing it too far away without a targeting cue for the gun makes hitting anything impossible. Am I missing something? You can fire the gun when the weapon selector is on gun, but it fires regardless of the a/g mixed gun switch position. I am taking about when the weapon selector is in the off position, which is required to get the HUD in air to ground mode.
  7. Or you can take 10 minutes to play the CSAR mission and run into the brick wall of problems that have been bug reported but hasn't been fixed since the maps rerelease. Always with these people. Oh report the bug, but when you report the bug, why are you reporting the bug? It's already reported.
  8. The holdback bar is visible up until the guy attaches it to my plane (multiplayer RIO F-14) then disappears when it is actually attached to the nose gear. Other players planes are fine, holdback bar is visible.
  9. I would just be happy if they would stop crashing into the sides of mountains as planes or stopping every 10 feet as helicopters.
  10. Any news on when these features (and others like the Counter-Countermeasure Mode Controls (knobs on the lower left corner of the DDD panel)) will become available to the RIO?
  11. since the update to the Caucus map, some missions are completely broken. Try playing CSAR single mission if you want to know what I mean.
  12. I see some odd stuff that AIs can exclusively do that Player controlled Aircraft (and the RL version) cannot. Some examples include: Release chaff or flares when not equipped with CM pod (Viggen & Mig21 comes to mind.) Able to release Chaff or Flares exclusively, (mig21. With the CM pods, you release both Chaff and Flares when you hit the release button, but the AI can release chaff OR flares when it should be releasing both) There are other examples but these two would be a good start.
  13. The Russian Federation units could use an update. Kirov class and the Tu95 Bear for example. Very FC3 model.
  14. Why would there be no wing flex?
  15. Could something like the launch and recovery cycle be simulated?
  16. As the title says, though I don't know if I've ever saw over wing vapor on a A-10 but it should happen in certain conditions, right?
  17. I guess there is a reason why most fighters have a centermouted stick with extension and only having one eye disqualifies you from flying... Imagine if RL cat pilots had to use a mouse and keyboard... :joystick:
  18. I've sent the link to a group I belong to that needs a few RIOs, in your DM.
  19. Yeah, the floodlights in the RIO pit are not working again.
  20. I was thinking of all those knobs and switches to the left and right of the DDD display. Turns out that you can have the 7s and 54s on a specific radar band and with two f14 on the same channel, something bad might happen... Not sure, the HB manual for the F14 didn't go into detail, but did suggest using seperate channels.
  21. As the title says, there are some stuff in the RIO pit that aren't implemented. What do us RIOs have to look forward to?
  22. Does this knob actually do something in DCS?
