The ACLS seems to always catch the 3 wire every time, without fail. Never ran into any connection problems with the ship or autothrottle turning off or any hiccups in the system in general. Any R/L Tomcat out there feel the ACLS is well modeled, or perhaps a bit too perfect?

So, if you switch out the grips and load up the correct profile, do you have to remap the buttons on that stick in DCS?

I've often wondered if anyone ever got really good at effects, like when the aircraft is in flight, afterburners, wingtip vortices, over the wing vapor effects, missile launches, stuff like that. But I doubt it, considering someone would have plastered photos of that stuff all over the internet if anyone made a really convincing effect like that.

I am a little surprised that 2 sidewinders weigh more than 2 Mk 82s.
-
Must have accidently hit the post icons at the bottom, I changed the original post title to no icon, then smiley icon but neither seemed to have worked.
-
Thumbs down? What thumbs down? I know it has limitations, I'm just wondering what you can do with them.

Anyone have success in the Harrier online? Flew all day in the Sidewinder server, but cannot get within 5 miles of my target before getting killed by F14s

I went back and did the same loadout. It was actually 24,111 lbs. Barely get's the plane off the ground though. Burned through 100 lbs of H2O to get 100ft off the ground.

For me on the caucuses map, I managed to VTO with 2 mk82 bombs and 2 pods of 7rkt (HE) with 100% fuel, totalling about 23,500 (correction 24,111) lbs or so, managed to burn about 200lbs of H2O before getting enough lift to turn it off. So this loadout you can do a little minor dirt flicking/street sweeping, but are completely defenseless against enemy air assets. Instead of cycling through all the weapon loadouts and experimenting needlessly for hours, I just wanted to ask the community what their personal heaviest loadouts they managed to VTOed in to sort of get the jist of the useful combos you can go vertical in. For example, did anyone manage to get off the ground with both AA missiles as well as A/G munitions? Edit: no, I didn't thumbs down this post on purpose, I tried to change it to the normal no icon then smiley icon but it just changes the title above and not the forum title.

Love how he handles it like it's made out of cobwebs. You know from the way he handles it, (plus the movable parts) 70% of that kit was made from PE and lightly glued, intricate parts that took the better part of a year to build.
-
How did you learn to get that good Madcat? I keep messing up my models at some point in the build.
-
I guess the Harrier in the loading screen is VLD then, seems like an odd loadout (empty wingtanks and a bit over half a tank of fuel) to VTO in.
-
Has anyone managed to perform a VTO with the 500 Gal wing tanks, 2 mavs and 2 sidewinders that you see in the loading screen of the Har when you load up a mission? The nozzles are in the vertical position so it's either taking off or landing, but it seems to weigh too much for a TO in this loadout.

I'm partial to 1/48 scale for planes, 1/35 scale for tanks. Not sure about helicopters, never made one, but I think I'll start looking into the gazelle.

I've been wanting to get into modeling (the plastic miniature kind, not the heidi klum kind) I've wanted to make all the aircraft you can currently fly in DCS. Problem is, I can't find model kits that accurately represents most of the helis and aircraft in the sim. For example, the best A10C I can find is the one made by Italeri, but the cockpit comes from the A10A, as it doesn't have the double MFCDs on the dash. Anyone into models (not the marissa miller kind... but yes) that managed to make a few of the aircraft flown in DCS?

Detent for afterburners & engine start?
WelshZeCorgi replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Thrustmaster
Yeah, you were right, there is a detent in there that you need to flip. That being said, It looks like you need to lift the throttles to get it to work, much prefer the "pushthrough" detent I got from shapeways. -
Detent for afterburners & engine start?
WelshZeCorgi replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Thrustmaster
I'll have to look into this. -
find narrow tracked planes to be the hardest, as any side loading on touchdown causes the entire aircraft to want to spin out of control, which makes any crosswind situation a pain. So I think Bf109 is the hardest, followed by the spitfire, followed by Mig-21. The high landing speed of the Mig-21 and the tires that seemed to be made of party balloon rubber makes landing hard in this thing. Helicopters, I find Mi-8 the hardest as it seems the one easiest to fall into the vortex ring state.

Detent for afterburners & engine start?
WelshZeCorgi replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Thrustmaster
The WH detent is only on one end. You can either have it for engine start or AB but not both at the same time. I was trying to find one for AB while keeping the engine start detent. -
Detent for afterburners & engine start?
WelshZeCorgi replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Thrustmaster
Awesome, thanks! -
No, I don't have VR... if you're offering though... But yeah, this is super weird, right? Not even really sure why it does that.
-
Are there any detents you can buy to both have the original detent for engine start as well as detents up front for the AB?
-
I don't remember 100%, but if you're talking about the two switches on the far front of the center console, so far front to the point that they are almost underneath the front dash instrument panel, I think one of them is hydraulics and the other is force trim, then yes, I always flip those two on during startup by habit. I suggest trying that mission with the cold start option, then try to take off in a hover with slight left rudder and stick slight back and left and you should see what I mean. EDIT: This is in the beta version of DCS not the Final Release version.
-
Does saving profiles help? Would be nice if vkb could add a bit of memory so that the base remembers the previous settings of grips it had installed with.
-
For me it happens all the time I do the cold start version of the mission in the current beta version. When you select the HOT start, however, that tail heaviness never occurs and a normal (nondrunken) takeoff is doable.
