  1. Playing "The Enemy Within" campaign has made me realize just how much more awesome the A-10C is, how capable it is in a number of situations and environments. Also made me appreciate just how detailed and love was put into this simulation. But at the same time, it has made me realize just how untrained and "green" I am with this plane. When I was able to start up the plane all by myself, without help, I was pretty impressed with myself. But when it comes to doing some of the actually useful things, like punching in a new L/L waypoint or a bullseye coordinates, or using the steerpoint markers to designate targets for guided bomb strikes from above cloud cover, that took me a while and is making me wonder what else I don't know. And yes, I could just read through the manual, but to be frank, there are only two campaigns made for the A-10C the original campaign and the Enemy Within. And only the Enemy Within actually demands the use of some of the more complex functions the A-10 can do. So TL:DR, I was wondering if the User Made Training Campaigns A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification Practice Missions etc, are worth the price. My only hesitation stems from the fact that DCS World is quickly changing and updating rather often, leading me to think that maybe one would break the campaign, and because the campaign is not an official part of DCS World, no updates would be made to it to keep it working on future DCS updates.
  2. 1.53 I think. I'm not at my computer right now to double check.
  3. For some reason I get a window every time I start the game that says this: "The Activation Key is not valid any more due to significant changes of the computer hardware configuration. Click "Retry" to reactivate the application. If the error recurs, click Error report and send the report to product technical support." I've done both but for the meantime, every time I start up the game, I have to use up one of my activation to play the game. Which means I can only start the game up 11 more times before the game locks me out completely, and considering that the game crashes every so often, I'm looking at a really frustrating prospect of, after having paying good money for this sim, I can only play 11 more times before I have to stop and wait for someone to fix this... Yeah, kind of not happy with that...
  4. Any news of whether this campaign mission is fixed?
  5. Same, bugged mission Whiskey is stonewalling my progress in an otherwise well made campaign...
  6. Not 100% sure, but didn't wags say that they are working on all pyrotechnic effects (explosions, fire) and will release the improvements DCS 2.0?
  7. I thought about it some more and realized that the pilot's weren't bulletproof... rather, even though there are holes in the Plexiglas windshield, the damage model does not allow for bullets (like 7.62mm) to pass through these holes and strike the pilot. If these rounds hit a hole in the windshield, it just damages the entire windshield more instead of passing through said hole to hit the pilot behind it....
  8. What about missions where time is of the essence? (Elbe Rescue) and you're flying 140+? I'm guessing not much. In fact, at that speed you're actually correcting with right rudder to counteract the nose's tendency to pull and roll left...
  9. I'm not complaining, if it's 100% realistic, I'm all for it, I'm just having a tough time trying to keep the Huey from oscillating during forward flight. In the first mission in the Huey campaign, "which I think is very-well done, by the way." The annoyingly snarky copilot complained of my shaky flying. I know he was probably programmed to say that regardless of how well you are flying but I'm trying to get the Huey to stop oscillating during flight... Any tips on how to get the Huey from wobbling all over the place during forward flight? It seems to not wobble when I make no rudder corrections, but seems to wobble greatly when I try to center the ball on the slip indicator.
  10. It's odd... These are rifle caliber rounds of course, so if I was hit by 20mm, or 12mm rounds, sure I think my pilots would die quickly, but I just assumed cause when my plexiglass is just full of holes, I wonder how much is luck considering I could fit my head through most of them.
  11. Are the pilots modeled to be bullet resistant in the Huey? I keep noticing missions where I take a bunch of AK-47 rounds to the plexiglass windshield in the cockpit but have never experienced getting my pilot/copilot shot or killed. Door gunners, sure I have gotten them killed several times, yet they usually seem pretty invincible even when their door windows are completely shot out... EDIT: changed title to correspond with what seems to be holes in the windshield that bullets cannot penetrate.
  12. I would like to suggest better, more realistic DM for things like tanks, APCs and trucks. Well... at least tanks if nothing else. As it is right now, the DM for ground forces are a bit binary. They are either alive, or dead and in DCSW there is no such thing as a mobility kill (tracks/suspension/engine destroyed) or a mission kill (gun/optics destroyed). I believe a more realistic DM for at least tanks would greatly improve gameplay and immersion. Please voice your opinions in the poll above. Thanks.
  13. During campaign missions or when there are others talking other than the FO, getting CAS tasks take an absurdly long time, cause the AWACS talks, the CAP talks and the SEAD all talk over each other, if god forbid the FO assigning targets is on the same channel, it literally could take up to 10 minutes before I'm given coordinates for a target. Am I doing something wrong, is there a way to just get the FO or is this a problem that needs to be addressed dev side?
  14. TGP Search flying pattern? So I was wondering how people in the community fly when they're searching for targets. How to effectively search for targets. When I started, I kept stumbling into AAA and SAMS and getting shot down. Then I learned to fly in a lazy large circle, using the altitude hold EAC while searching for a target. But I have noticed that this can get annoying sometimes as I constantly have to wait for my wing or plane to get out of the TGP's way or have to disengage autopilot, reposition, then turn on autopilot and search with the TGP again. I was wondering if there was a better way than what I am currently doing.
  15. I ask because it's sort of showing its age, hard to read ABRIS, low quality textures in the back panel of the cockpit, some systems not working particularly well... whatever. Just wanted to ask if anyone's heard of news about the bs2.
  16. Anyone ever use the AUTO CM function regularly? I find it useful, but it regularly dispenses CM on friendly launches.
  17. I always feel like an Abbott and Costello routine whenever the MLDS system goes off. I dump flares and chaff and whirl around like a hummingbird on meth, only to find out that it was a F-16 dogfighting or a friendly Hog or Apache launching a Mav or a Hellfire. Then when I hear the MLDS go off again, I think... "Oh, must be another Maverick or Hellfire launch... better not waste countermeasures on a friendly missile launch... Famous last words. Seconds later I'm a falling wreck and despite my wingman's omniscience, he failed to call the SAM launch and I fail a relatively easy mission. During a night mission, I make an attack and note that the MLDS doesn't go off. So I assume the vector is free of SAMs. So I go in and pop my targets, break off and set up for another run using the same attack vector. Missile launch goes off and I think... "Must be the friendly Hog wing I called in, my wingman isn't saying anything." Then I get hit by two missiles and the mission is over. How do you avoid or sort out the confusion when you have launches from both friendly and enemy aircraft going off all around you?
  18. Just a question regarding realism... In CSAR operations, do they only use "CSAR" pilots that were trained only to perform CSAR missions? Or do all A10C pilots perform such a task if needed? Also, are there any other interesting missions A10C pilots perform, (missions as interesting as but not like CSAR?)
  19. I keep losing offensive CAS missions cause of KA-50s and Hinds. And occasionally Su-25s. I'm trying to shoot them down, but have incredible difficulty finding them visually and TGP wise... the AWACS usually doesn't help, cause the radio jams up with backlogged messages that come out at snails pace, and even then, 270 for 2 at 1000 is awkward to translate into looking west for something ambiguously 2 miles away at around 1000ft. I got shot down by a KA-50 as I was looking for it. I literally passed it by a quarter-mile, didn't see it and got killed when it ripped me apart with 30mm. The main issue is effectively taking them down before they completely destroy a platoon, which they seem to be able to do in several minutes... So how do you effectively combat helicopters and other Su-25's out hunting in the chicken coop?
  20. Just a question regarding realism... In CSAR operations, do they only use "CSAR" pilots that were trained only to perform CSAR missions? Or do all A10C pilots perform such a task if needed? Also, are there any other interesting missions A10C pilots perform, (missions like CSAR?)
  21. I'm considering trying to make a few user missions... but from the forums experience/preference/imagination, how would you describe a good mission/ campaign?
  22. I'm thinking about what it would take to make a realistic A-10C campaign with the editor. And what I mean by that is... How much anti-air assets would be realistic? If a real war broke out in Georgia and the Russian army was on the offensive, wouldn't they have dedicated fighter cover, manpads, SAMs and means of denying airspace over offensive objectives? Would special forces and guerrilla supporters camp outside airfields and in cities, armed with manpads, to ambush unsuspecting A-10cs and other planes? would one being shot down outside an airbase potentially scrap low-priority missions? How does that all work? How would a real Russian offensive cover their attack from air interdictions? And how would US forces realistically counter them? Just overwhelm them with HARMs? Use special forces to take out SAM sites? Cruise missiles and Naval power? Would Russia respond with a greater naval threat? This is an open question, idea thread, so just tell me what you think and not go into the whole "you're an idiot because you don't already know the answer to the question you're asking" thread of thought.
  23. Smaller aircraft? Do you mean bigger aircraft? Wouldn't a smaller aircraft turnfight better?
  24. where would the ho229 even fit in this sim? in WW2 it would be a veritable sky shark, but up against a saber, it would prob be dead meat... are they making meteors for the british?
  25. Wonderful plane, can't get enough. Has anyone tried the A-to-A quick mission where you have to kill an opposing L39? As hard as I try, getting the missile to actually track and kill the target. I can get both R-3s off the rail, so no, I didn't forget to flip the trigger and arm the missile and seeker. I can fire them both but once I get on the AI's tail, he just turns hard forever. Trying to kill him in that sustained lvl one circle flight is hard. I've tried cutting the circle or even reversing to get into a two circle fight, but the AI seems to be programmed to get itself into a defensive one circle and just do that till it runs out of fuel... I have shot it down twice, one rear angle shot and one low deflection where he was crossing my sight at a very low rate. I've once shot both missiles from his rear quarter and both failed to track, even though the AI was flying straight and level. I don't play A-A much, but anyone here got any general tips or lessons about how these R-3s's work?
