  1. Just watched Top Gun this evening with my brother in anticipation of whats to come in 2018...we only need to figure out whos gonna RIO and whos gonna flaaaaaaay!
  2. hrm on that note. Does the chatter extension contain actual 'in contact' combat chatter, or just general day to day operations overnet talk?
  3. Hey mate, looks great. Two things, is the chatter extenseion completely new or something that you feature in a video somewhere? I'd like to get an impression of it first, before i decide whether i go with the full package or not. Additionally, i'd make an additional mention in the faq section on the website about this being build with Voice Attack in mind. Its listed on the main page, still some people might overlook it there.
  4. Yeah those vouchers look tempting! I just hope ED is resolving that whole issue with the new protection system sooner than later (hopefully before the fist of January that is), cause i don't really feel comfortable buying full priced modules with the current implementation of said protection system.
  5. Looking forward to it. Way to few missions for the Gazelle around, much appreciated!
  6. As always....crunch time should not even be a term when it comes to luxury goods like PC games! Personally, knowing the devs did not compromise their everyday lives and health in such an endevour, is actually a selling point for me. Buying a product from a big publisher knowing their employees spent a couple of months in crunch time is rather detrimental to everyone involved...and quality of siad product more often than not! Anyway, looking forward to whenever this bird lands...or takes off!!! One more thing: one gets fairly quickly accustomed to screenshots looking incredible nowadays, yours are no exception! BUT, let me say this: when i read your post and saw those first two screenshots of the seats...i was a bit irritated.......why would they post photographs of the real thing in here? Took a bit of time inspecting screenshot two to confirm those are indeed renders. So if these attest to the overall quality of your upcoming F-14, you shall gladly have my money. cheers
  7. give us a price estimate before Christmas so we can start dreaming!
  8. Late January, right around my birthday, equally fitting as having it for Christmas! Anyway, health and well being of employees must always take precedent over all other considerations, whether its software dev. or any other industry. Crunchtime should not even be a word unless its a matter of life and death, wich software development seldom is. But damn it, lost my bet with my brother and now i need to cook nepali chicken for him...and that ''release in the coming weeks'' was putting me on the winning street! :)
  9. ''We are establishing storehouses in all major markets starting early coming year, which will put the end to delays and out-of-stocks.'' Thats great news...and this would put a lot of tention and frustration behind us all. Everyone can order whenever they want without the constant need to watch out when the next batch will be available, and then jumping on board and preordering just to wait variable amount of months.
  10. Best wishes to you as well and i am looking forward to what Polychop will bring to the DCS table next year! I think that is a good choice to go for the mini gun version at this point in time, it sure has a bit more applicability for some time to come, at least until DCS world simulation has advanced some more. Concerning the periscope: sorry to hear this won't be available! All i would ask for; please don't say 'never' and scrap the code for this feature! DCS world is in constant development and Wags mentioned their work on implementing Vulkan API at some point in the future. Thus, what might be a resource hog in 1.5 beta and 2.2 alpha, might be a perfectly viable option some time in the future. I reckon it would be a nice addition later on, and maybe get you some more sales at later stage in the Gazelles DCS life cycle. Same goes for the eventual Sniper version of course. And, its good for building a company name in the sim world as well. When customers konw a company keeps there already released products in shape and adds something new every now and then, you are much more inclined to buy stuff. Anyway, thx for all the work on the Gazelle over the last months! Btw, you said earlier you were gonna make an intro video about a new feature/way of measuring coordinates with the viviane. Is that still planned or was that related to the canceld periscope feature?
  11. ok, googled BRD and stuff. I am not too knowledgable on designing and cutting metal parts, but from the notion 'laser cut', one should think its very precise. Having looked at the pictures linked by Sokol, it seems the main limitation of laser cutting lies in that you cannot work thicker, whole pieces, but have to cut all your pieces from metal plates and layer them up for bigger/fatter pieces when you need to. Where as with CNC you can design solid, complex pieces as long as your drill/router bits can reach each surface. Except for size and weight, i would expect both ways of building a metal gimbal should provide pretty much the same precision, quality and feel +longevity.
  12. I have not read the entire thread, but i still miss a three position pinky swtich or something on the left side of the left/outer throttle (like with the A-10). Something should be there for maximum adaptability, its wasted space and opportunity i reckon.
  13. fully Warthog grip compatible? Yeah, and i sure would like to understand the differences to the T-50 base besides the missing freely accessible tension springs srews. And for the uninitiated; what is WarBRD and its cam design? Does this mean the actual gimbla is not a Vripil design at all but only the electronics?
  14. mid thirties.
  16. ''Together with Eagle Dynamics SA and The Fighter Collection we introduce one beautiful civilian airplane to this world, opening the door for new things to come.'' Sounds like there will be a great 'Road Ahead' for DCS World reveal coming sometime after 2.5 is out! ''We imagine future of DCS as a general world simulating platform where almost anything could be simulated'' Now we are talking! Lets see where this leads...
  17. Come on guys, we all new Starforce did not lock anybody out for good. If that would have been the case, those of you who really need the offline mode would have experienced that and said so. Sith stated himself that he is not completely sure how Starforce works, and that Wags responded again and cleared things up clearly means, that ''phone home'' thing every x number of days is a change and new compared to Starforce. Besides, trying to phone home and disabling modules if that fails, does not necessarily need to go together. Besides guys, a community manager can only say what he knows and has been cleared to say. Again, lets keep calm and wait whether friday news bring some clarification on this entire matter.
  18. First i'll have my Tomcat for 1 to 2 years, than a shorter infatuation with the Harrier, then i go for the Hornet! Other distractions are welcome in between :)
  19. True, its a tiny amount of registered forum users. Nontheless, you don't need a very high number to get pretty accurate results. ATM 313 people have voted and if i recall my statistics training correctly (and didn't mess up the statistics calculator) at a confidence level of 95% and confidence interval of lets say 5, we needed only 382 votes to be fairly accurate. The 44.03% for 90 days would then fall into a margin of error of -5% to +5%, thus we could be 95% certain that of those 60.000 users, between 39.03% and 49.03% would have voted for 90 days. If we wanted a slimmer confidence interval of say 2%, we needed 2309 votes. Anyway, most scientists go with 95% confidence level and usually n=500 is accurate enough, whether you're sampling 100k or millions doesn't really matter, if you don't mess up your sampling cohort that is. Yeah, some visibility was lost due to moving the thread down from the news section, so mainly people that saw this within the first 2 days and those actually interested in the Harrier did vote. Lets see what ED comes up with:music_whistling:
  20. Haha Sith, you are doing a very good job at managing people's expections :) ....and one day boooom...before we expect it, there it is...2.5 out in the wild!
  21. A question to the testers in case they know and are at liberty to answer. If i am not mistaken, ED's map building tools and techniques are in constant development and thus each new map should be more detailed and advanced than the ones that came before. So i reckon the new Caucasus will be better on various fronts than NTTR in its current iteration. SoH would then be even better than the 2.5 Caucasus version. Now, NTTR looks realy amazing overall. For helicopter pilots though, hovering over the ground at a couple of feet, the terrains flatness and close up low texture quality really shows. First, do you have any info whether SoH will be build with new techniques or engine enhancements that give more grainularity to the ground (small rocks, holes, cracks etc. generally more uneven/rugged surface) including HD textures when looking from 2-1 meters height? If that is the case, might we see this transferred over to NTTR at some later point as well?
  22. Hey, i know this is of low priority, but it would be cool if at some point we see Nevada/desert like loading screens and not the default Caucasus ones in NTTR Nevada 2.1.
  23. hrm...i would think they reimburse the rightful holder of the credit card. Again, unless ED feels it necessary to further explain in detail what they are trying to achieve and why some measures would suffice and others are not really suitable, we are a bit clueless, i am afraid. Not the smartest move by ED i would think. Its advisable to explain exactly what you want to achieve with a change that in all likelyhood they have known would be contentious. I mean, if they explained ''here folks, thats whats going in significants numbers in todays 'e-commerce online world' and we see this happening all the time (to you customers and us developers)...and thats what we're trying to accomplish...'', people here might have reacted a bit different. Anyway, i am sure they read our well intentioned proposions and maybe some of it fits their bill. Cheers mate
  24. MonnieRock's proposal does not adequately deal with the account theft and creditcard/paypal fraud issue that seems to be on EDs mind when they designed the new system. When someone manages to steal a legit account and then installs that account's modules and activates these per one time requirement, its quite unlikely that comes to the attention of the paying customer before that onetime activation has been passed. Now theres no way of disabling the illegitimate module installation. Same goes for buying modules with stolen credicard details or outright paypal ''booking back'' fraud. As i have outlined earlier, you get yourself a prepaid creditcard and then use paypal for the actual DCS module purchase, install, activate, rebook the money via paypal. If you want to combat both fraudschemes effectively, you need three things in place: 1.) two-factor verification via email on activating modules 2.) overview of DCS world installations/activations on different hardware configs i.e. laptops, pc which the user can identify, and time and date of activation attempts inside you ED webprofile 3.) 30+ day (i would rather say 60 or more) period with repeated online verification every x days AFTER installing DCS world on a new hardware config with your account. This gives hopefully enough time to either the rightful customer become aware that someone got access to his account and uses it to play for free. This gives ED enough time revoke fraudulent activations after creditcard fraud in whatever shape or form has been brougth to their attention. I kinda got the feeling that ED will not go back to the onetime activation thing. I kinda come around and think its fair enough for them to get at least a time period where they can identify and shutout fraudsters. BUT, at the same time i believe it totally possible to lift the repeated online verification requirement for a specific DCS world installation after some time has passed and the validity of said installation has been established. Too complicated for the enduser? I can't see that. Right now, we get our starforce keys per email (besides profile of course). Then, we'd get an activation link via email which acts as a notification simultaneously incase someone else is doing shady stuff with our account. Easy enough to implement a day counter ingame that tells you when you can sail off to Bermuda and never come back :)
  25. Just elaborating a bit more on my earlier post and what i would deem an acceptable system that combines the best of both worlds i should hope: What might work though, is a kind of karma system (or 'good standing' system) where a new customer has his modules repeatedly verified by internet over the first 30 - 180 days or something (depending for howlong a creditcard fraud claim is valid). Thus once the financial transaction is finally through and ED and 3rd party devs. have gotten paid, the repeated online verification is lifted and only happens when you actually go online and/or update. This might help deal with creditcard/paypal fraud in conjunction with the fraudster setting up a new account for each stolen module. That same inital time period of 1 to 6 months repeated online verificaion should also be applied to new installations of DCS on different PC hardware configurations for existing accounts with honestly bought modules in it. Thus if someone really manages to steal the account of an honest customer then there is a multiple months long period where this irregularity might come to the attention of said customer. For instance, if users could track inside their ED store customer webprofile all their DCS installations plus when and on what hardware configuration a new installation has been activated (and an addtional email notification could be sent as well), then it should be quite easy to catch irregular installations by the user itself and revoke that activation. Thus, there needed to be, as already mentioned, an initial time period with repeated online verification that gives ample time to catch fradulent installations. Lifting of that repeated online verification after x number of weeks/months needed not be happening automatically but could be done by the customer via two-factor authentification if he/she so desires, and always not for the account in general, but for a specific installation only. I know, this system would kinda suck for someone getting a new laptop, installing DCS and going on a multiple months sea voyage or something shortly thereafter. You needed to get over those inital months before you could enjoy that total offline freedom. But how often do people make a new dcs installation? The question is, should this 'initial period' always restart from scratch if a new module is bought and added to an existing account. I should think that would not be necessary. It kinda dependes on the customers to keep a bit track on there installations and whether something shady is going on inside there account profile as described in the paragraph above. Anyway, i think this system would combine best of both worlds and give customers their highly valued offline freedom and asure ED to high degree that fraudulent installations can be tracked down and deactivated. I, for one, could live with this system.
