Rear gunner works fine - in respect that he is shooting (not necessarily hitting the target though). Just make sure that the helicopter is positioned in a way that the gunner has an angle on the target.

I can be missing something but is there a way to aim down the sights - something like RMB in FPS (sorry for trivial compression)? What I'm doing is pausing the TIR when aiming as also zooming in with the mouse wheel. Still when the mouse/gun is moved the camera gets off center of the sights. It gets aligned back after a while after mouse movement is stopped. In result the feeling of the gun controls is rather "rubbery" or lagy. My suggestion would be to remove or minimize this effect.

infantry not embarking

I think it's a good decision. The visibility for the rear gunner must be like looking through a straw. Most of the people would just try it one, twice and then come back to the main thing which is flying the chopper. Just trying to be fair here, it's the same with the door gunners - they are controlled by AI for good reasons. Personally I have the same opinion about the multi-crew - It's hard to imagine that a core game-play would be someone spending his whole flight as a gunner (Maybe some day if we'll get the B-17). IMO, just to summarize. To improve: - AI gunners efficiency - as someone wrote they're just expanding ammo. Even if pilot takes all the care to fly slow and steady. At the moment this one is the biggest issue. - AI gunners burst length - even on high setting it's too short. Maybe consider making short, medium, long. It would be great to have a setting for those fast and close flybys when the gunner should just more or less hold the trigger. - Aiming control - there is a big delay between mouse movement and reaction of the gun. In result at the moment aiming is just a nightmare. Please make the gun control and mouse input 1:1. To fix: - sound bug: gun firing sound is looped and is being played after AI gunner has stopped shooting. Once AI starts shooting again the sound gets back to normal. - external view for sling loading - outside front cabin section is missing, cockpit is visible. Not a priority, nice to have: - rear gunner - multi crew Overall, great work on the Mi-8 - it's just a fantastic module. Kudos for the manual. Since it was an release and the module is pretty much feature complete just do the bug fixing and move forward with developing another great aircraft ;)

Gents, I'm just about to try it out but by RTFM - reading the flight manual (or reading the new fantastic manual :) ): Key commands for playing as a gunner (page 373) [4] - Take the door gunner’s place [1] - Take the pilot’s place [Rshift + K] - Aktivate kneeboard [K] - Aktivate kneeboard (shown only while the key is kept pressed) [Lwin + H] - Activate/ deactivate gunner’s status panels while playing as a door gunner [LCtrl + Lwin + 4] - Sets ROE of the door gunner [LCtrl + 5] - Sets ROE of the tail gunner [Lalt + T] - Switches simultaneous use of TrackIR and mouse modes [F9] - Disables/enables TrackIR from its own software It looks like that at the moment the door gunner is controllable while the tail one is purely AI. IMO, no issue with that, super great that the door gunner is controllable.

Looking for data on using a 40" TV for a monitor
firmek replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
+1. Even if you're going to sit relatively far away still there are other things to consider like input lag, ghosting and screen tearing (lack of support for adaptive sync) and many more issues related to screen characteristics as also features (like lack USB concentrator). Edit: Using TV as a monitor is ok for showing pictures, power point or maybe for editing an excel. When it comes for more non trivial applications like gaming, DTP, CAD, etc, dedicated monitors will always be much better. -
Question - since Viggen is potentially so close to the release it would be great to have a possibility to pre purchase it. It would be also great to have an indication on how feature complete is the module going to be at its initial release. Is the target for the release to be more of a beta with community testing expected and few non-essential feature missing or more of an alpha with potentially long time till the module reaches a solid state. Looking at the announcement post I hope for more of an complete, finished module release.
-
Adjust TIR curves by decreasing sensitivity at the further head movement.
-
I didn't thought that I'll say it but thats too much - Spit and Viggen at the same time :) Good that Christmass break is coming. There should be enough time to fly both :)
-
Just started to read about the Viggen. Attack version didn't had a cannon - only possibility to mount gun pods.
-
Have to admit that Viggen wasn't too much appalling to me. Great work with the teaser. Now I'm totally sold, going to get it for sure :) I'm quite sure that the plane will be great. Just hope that the campaign will match it ;)

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
-1 as Red have the Ka-50. IMO the way to go is dedicated aircrafts for both sides while keeping it reasonable from perspective of what is possible due to modules availability in DCS at given moment. -
DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
firmek replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Could be that F-14 had an IFF equipment but with limited capability - for example only the transmitter but with limited or without a possibility to interrogate radar contacts. On the other hand if this is the case it'll be an "interesting" experience on the MP servers. Especially those that are already a mess due to "all" aircrafts on both sides (which is kind of majority at the moment). -
Trackclip Pro: Go or NO-GO?
firmek replied to 5e EVC Chappy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
+1 to this. Track clip pro is well worth all the money. With it TrackIR is much more precise and smooth than with the reflector thing. The biggest difference is when sitted close to the TIR receiver which is more or less a normal setup with TIR mounted on top of the monitor and when sitting close to it on standard desk. Plus it can be easily mounted on a headset. As for the build quality, I have it for more than a year now. It's perfectly fine. It requires paying a bit more attention to not dropping it or carelessly throwing. For sure it's not the most solid piece of equipment but I've also read that the quality of the plastic was improved. The only "real" issue that the pro clip has is that it stays on even if computer is shut down. I guess it's due to USB ports being powered up. Something that probably can be managed but may require chaning a switch or a jumber on motherboard. I can't imagine what the designers were thinking about forcing people to wear the cap for the reflector. They should just save the cost on the hat and ship the TIR with LED clip by default instead. -
375.86 is reported to cause a lot of problems with 10xx series. It doesn't mean however that everyone is affected. I would say just to stick to a simple rule - use the latest stable one - which at the moment is 375.95. I'm running it with 1070 without any issues.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
I had an issue with Mi-8 comms menu being disabled after taking off. I did came back after landing (or rather crash landing close to farp) but only "F12 - exit" option got back - so no way to drop troops. Don't know if this is on purpose (due to SRS for instance). I didn't see that in other airplanes (Ka-50, Su-25T, MiG-21, M-2000C). Being able to check the PAC intell during the flight is quite useful but it's not possible if the commns menu doesn't work. -
Try the files from the last post. "Server.lua" should be enough. You can also try the SnapViews.lua - if you know how to edit it and change to your preferences. Make backups just in case. Most of the actual information is on the last page.
-
Not complaining as obviously the sales decisions are up to the ED. Consider it more of a hint but with a new campaign release it would be great to have it bundled with just the airplane. In other words it would be great to have F-5E bundled together with the new ABFM campaign as there are probably a lot of people that already own the Nevada.

Disable the Thrustmaster Hotas Lights?
firmek replied to Goshawk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have exactly the same problem since some time. Now it's clear for me why - I've bought a power cord extension with a switch to completely turn off the power for the computer as otherwise the TrackIR pro clip LED's were staying on even if the computer was shut down. Would be great to find a way to turn off the warthog LED's. Maybe a short command line that could be added at the windows startup. -
It looks like you've "lost" your shoulders. Check this one: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96116&page=22

Just can't wait. The model, cockpit and the map look just great. Starting up seems quite easy. The next step will be trying not to collide during taxi or crashing while taking off:)

Wish List: New airfields with no aprons. Can't start cold.
firmek replied to Tucano_uy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sorry, but don't you think that this small airports at the edge of a nowhere are growing into a too big problem? C’mon, there are plenty of much bigger airports right now at Nevada. Is really adding the aprons to those small airports would be a deal changer and suddenly would open a million of new possibilities for mission designers? Or are there another features that should got a higher priority? Nevada was meant to be a training map. Consider that the Normandy is just across the corner, there is going to be possibility to place the grass airfields using mission editor as also in longer perspective we're going to get the Strait of Hormuz. This should be more than enough also to satisfy "sandbox", "fun" approach - just place the grass strips in the dessert and scramble from them with WWII fighters to air quake over Las Vegas skyscrapers  -
MiG-25 was designed to fly high and fast. That's why it was such a great platform for a recon aircraft. Current maps would be too small to show its full potential. Another aspect is that most probably a lot of it's systems is still classified. For that reasons, as far it's a great plane, some other moduels should get a priority.

[RESOLVED]annoying ground load micro pauses -SOLVED
firmek replied to adrianstealth's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Fine, while your personal experience may be different please don't state it like this would just a normal thing to do. Everyone that decides to disable the paging file should be warned that it's officially strongly not advised, should be done on own risk and can cause substantial system instability. By the way, the purpose of the paging file is not only to accommodate memory usage grow above the hardware RAM capacity. It's constantly being used to store the memory of non-performance critical applications leaving more RAM for those that are performance hungry. This is how it is being "advertised" by MS as also why turning off the page file may have a opposite to expected impact on the performance.
