Trackclip Pro: Go or NO-GO?
firmek replied to 5e EVC Chappy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
+1 to this. Track clip pro is well worth all the money. With it TrackIR is much more precise and smooth than with the reflector thing. The biggest difference is when sitted close to the TIR receiver which is more or less a normal setup with TIR mounted on top of the monitor and when sitting close to it on standard desk. Plus it can be easily mounted on a headset. As for the build quality, I have it for more than a year now. It's perfectly fine. It requires paying a bit more attention to not dropping it or carelessly throwing. For sure it's not the most solid piece of equipment but I've also read that the quality of the plastic was improved. The only "real" issue that the pro clip has is that it stays on even if computer is shut down. I guess it's due to USB ports being powered up. Something that probably can be managed but may require chaning a switch or a jumber on motherboard. I can't imagine what the designers were thinking about forcing people to wear the cap for the reflector. They should just save the cost on the hat and ship the TIR with LED clip by default instead. -
375.86 is reported to cause a lot of problems with 10xx series. It doesn't mean however that everyone is affected. I would say just to stick to a simple rule - use the latest stable one - which at the moment is 375.95. I'm running it with 1070 without any issues.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
I had an issue with Mi-8 comms menu being disabled after taking off. I did came back after landing (or rather crash landing close to farp) but only "F12 - exit" option got back - so no way to drop troops. Don't know if this is on purpose (due to SRS for instance). I didn't see that in other airplanes (Ka-50, Su-25T, MiG-21, M-2000C). Being able to check the PAC intell during the flight is quite useful but it's not possible if the commns menu doesn't work. -
Try the files from the last post. "Server.lua" should be enough. You can also try the SnapViews.lua - if you know how to edit it and change to your preferences. Make backups just in case. Most of the actual information is on the last page.

Not complaining as obviously the sales decisions are up to the ED. Consider it more of a hint but with a new campaign release it would be great to have it bundled with just the airplane. In other words it would be great to have F-5E bundled together with the new ABFM campaign as there are probably a lot of people that already own the Nevada.

Disable the Thrustmaster Hotas Lights?
firmek replied to Goshawk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have exactly the same problem since some time. Now it's clear for me why - I've bought a power cord extension with a switch to completely turn off the power for the computer as otherwise the TrackIR pro clip LED's were staying on even if the computer was shut down. Would be great to find a way to turn off the warthog LED's. Maybe a short command line that could be added at the windows startup. -
It looks like you've "lost" your shoulders. Check this one: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=96116&page=22

Just can't wait. The model, cockpit and the map look just great. Starting up seems quite easy. The next step will be trying not to collide during taxi or crashing while taking off:)

Wish List: New airfields with no aprons. Can't start cold.
firmek replied to Tucano_uy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sorry, but don't you think that this small airports at the edge of a nowhere are growing into a too big problem? C’mon, there are plenty of much bigger airports right now at Nevada. Is really adding the aprons to those small airports would be a deal changer and suddenly would open a million of new possibilities for mission designers? Or are there another features that should got a higher priority? Nevada was meant to be a training map. Consider that the Normandy is just across the corner, there is going to be possibility to place the grass airfields using mission editor as also in longer perspective we're going to get the Strait of Hormuz. This should be more than enough also to satisfy "sandbox", "fun" approach - just place the grass strips in the dessert and scramble from them with WWII fighters to air quake over Las Vegas skyscrapers  -
MiG-25 was designed to fly high and fast. That's why it was such a great platform for a recon aircraft. Current maps would be too small to show its full potential. Another aspect is that most probably a lot of it's systems is still classified. For that reasons, as far it's a great plane, some other moduels should get a priority.

Fully agree, Sabre has one of the best if not the best looking canopy out there. But not all of the planes probably are/have to be the same. Also there are probably a lot of more important things than the canopy ;)

[RESOLVED]annoying ground load micro pauses -SOLVED
firmek replied to adrianstealth's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Fine, while your personal experience may be different please don't state it like this would just a normal thing to do. Everyone that decides to disable the paging file should be warned that it's officially strongly not advised, should be done on own risk and can cause substantial system instability. By the way, the purpose of the paging file is not only to accommodate memory usage grow above the hardware RAM capacity. It's constantly being used to store the memory of non-performance critical applications leaving more RAM for those that are performance hungry. This is how it is being "advertised" by MS as also why turning off the page file may have a opposite to expected impact on the performance. -
Wish List: New airfields with no aprons. Can't start cold.
firmek replied to Tucano_uy's topic in DCS Core Wish List
+1 to above. There is no reason to be religious about the realism aspect. Just consider it from other perspective. If those small airports would have a cold start capable they would become just like any other airport but at the same time being a much worse version of them. With the recent extension there are plenty airports at Nevada. The fact that there are just a few that can be only used for emergency landing makes them unique and so to say in this way adds some "fun" factor to them. For that reason I would appreciate them as they are. -

A single GA flight every second day, 3 small aicrafts. Being straight, it's just an small GA airport in the middle of nowhere. Just take it and appreciate it for what it is - a runway which can be used in case of an emergency landing. No reason to try to make it into something that it isn't. DCS is not the best place to consider turning things for what they are not just for a "fun" factor. -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Learn the location of the targets from SOP document. Mirage has a great navigation system - INS. Use GPS coordinates to create the flight plan and mark the targets. MiG-21 - RSBN, ARC and dead reckoning. In reality the targets in BF are static. After getting experience with time visual navigation may be enough. Hate to say it but the once knowing where the targets are the easiest way is the own location mark on F10 map and the bearing tool. -

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
For that reason keep distance all the time and don't fly over the neutralized FARP. Just in case to avoid ending up as target on a silver plate when the AA defenses respawn :) -

firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
The lagging is a problem but it is affecting both sides at the same level. It's not an excuse, it shouldn't be that way but or the titles of the videos: "hard target for the red", "blue pilot saved his life" is really unfair as it clearly imposes that only RED are affected and BLUE are exploiting it for their purpose. Again, both teams suffer from the lags. PS - I'm playing on red this testing round so no need for conspiracy theory. -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
firmek replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Probably it's not a big news but the server is lagging a lot and constantly crashes. Today evening it was hard to play a single 3h session without a crash or disconnect. Not complaining - just reporting as it is a testing session ;) -
The update was ~20GB but... since it was an update it does not mean that DCS size increased the same. 2.0 is quite big though ~58GB. Regarding reflections, it's kind of strange but I didn't noticed them neither in SP or MP. Are they connected with graphics options?

Which version has the problems - 375.70 (28.10), 375.86 (?), 375.95 (18.11)?

Looks like a great (feature and sizew wise :)) update  Can't wait to try it out when the download finishes! The potential for building new missions and scenarios just got to the next level. Maybe I'm too optimistic but the map just got a second breath :) The first thing to do after starting DCS - check the F10 map, fly and enjoy the scenery, make a new airport frequency chart :) Just wondering, do the new airfields support RSBN for MiG-21? It seem that it doesn't work on the current one (or the kneeboard is outdated).

I've started to come to conclusion that this is probably the way to go - keep the right hand on the stick and use left hand to operate the mouse. The only reason why I didn't try it is that I've organized and pinned all of my cables together and don't want to ruin it. Then however, usually if there is a need to operate a switch during the flight the best way to go is probably to map it to the HOTAS or asign it to an easy (one letter) keeboard shortcut which can be operated quicker than trying to hit something with mouse run by left hand.

The main impact on the FPS is probably related to the complexity of the cockpit as also quality of the mesh and textures. Older modules may be using textures with smaller resolution. I don't think creating the list will bring much of benefits. First it's quite hardware and setting dependent. After applying a mod with better quality textures the FPS will drop. Also 2.0 and 1.5 have different performances. Then, the FPS count is different depending on the mission setup and plane position - on the ground FPS drops substantially. At the end there are just too many variables. To draw some conclusion, the comparison should be run with exactly the same test mission which is flew in exactly the same way during the same time and under the same graphical settings. Otherwise the result will be confusing with wrong conclusions being made.

K14 sight Fixed and gyro reticle correctly displayed?
firmek replied to flashben's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
This might be actually the answer - supported by the picture from the first post and the arrows with the reticle aligned on the target. As I understand the shape is not so much perceived as an displayed on the surface of the glass but rather it is focused in the infinity.
