Hi No you should be carrying out two low fly pasts at say 500 feet.( This will ensure you are quite close to the runway). I can see what you mean how this could be misinterpreted. I will make that more clear in a future update. Thanks for picking that up. Regarding the way point turns, yes 5 miles is too far out to get good lines. In fact there are radio messages from Ford to his wingman when to start to take the turns. These about 3 miles out, just fly to the way point until you get those messages. Try this and all should be well. Let me know if you still have an issue and I will check fly it myself. Hope this helps Badger633

I think the first fly pass at 5000 feet might have been a problem. It’s possible you we’re not directly over the runway at that height but did catch the hand off ATC message trigger. Height is not checked but location is. The requirement is for a low level pass. Not sure the crowds would see your fly past at 5000 feet Also if you didn’t get the second smoke on message it would mean again you were not in the correct position for your line up. No one has raised this issue to date but I will check it out and report. Suggest you fly again but use low level passes say 500 feet and make sure you fly accurately. Hope this helps Badger633

Hi Yes all you have to do is head to Way point 6. As you and your wingman depart from the tanker you should get the final instructions. But first you need to have flown the two fly pasts correctly. Are you sure you have done this? Badger633

Hi CBStu Agreed all campaigns do benefit from the addition off knee boards My early free Campaign, 'The Serpent's Head' ( available from the user files), had full knee boards added some time ago. The second follow up campaign, 'The Serpent's head 2' (available from the e shop), has recently had kneeboards added and they will be available in the next DCS update. My current campaign, 'Rise of the Persian Lion' ( available from the e shop) has always had full knee boards. Cheers Badger633

Mission 11 - Carrier Comms
Badger633 replied to speed-of-heat's topic in F/A-18C Rise of the Persian Lion Campaign
I will check, but it is the selection in the radio menu which is important. Strike will tell you which pri button to press for correct frequency. Link below to Flying Kenny’s video of Mission 11. You can see radio call working. Hope this helps Badger633 -
Mission 11 - Carrier Comms

Yes, the break off is intentional as the AI wingman if left to his own devices sometimes conflicted with the player. Badger633 -
Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Hi, you always have to go through the radio menu system even when you use your Hotas. As I have said you must use the COMM1 selection to pull up the radio menu as it is COMM 1 which is at the correct JTAC frequency. I believe \ is only for on the ground. You will get the message you received as it is you speaking. You are not getting a response as you are not using COMM1. One other thing. ‘Easy communications’ should be off in your game settings. Hope this helps Badger633 -
Mission 11 - Carrier Comms
Badger633 replied to speed-of-heat's topic in F/A-18C Rise of the Persian Lion Campaign
Hi No there is no radio triggers for the case 3 approach. It’s all std DCS radio so out of my control. The only trigger is to get your wing man out of your hair when you make your approach. Not saying this is the case but very often when you get the divert response it is because you have not selected the carrier but one of the other ships of the fleet by mistake which obviously will not let you land. Selecting the wrong one is very easy I have done it a couple of times. I have looked at removing all the other fleet ships from the radio menu but currently this is not possible in the mission editor. Hope this helps Badger633 -

Hi speed-of -heat A bit confused as mission 10 of The Rise of the Persian Lion, "Dropping in unexpected", does not have a boat landing? Badger633 -
Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Hi, just flew the normal Super carrier version of mission 8. Had no problems contacting Axeman. You will get a reminder to contact the JTAC at 20 miles. If you have not changed the radio you should already be on the right frequency. JTAC Axeman should be available in the radio menu Very important, are you sure you are using the COMM1 ( call radio menu) normally RAlt + \ or what ever button you have set it to on your HOTAS if you have one. Hope this helps Badger633 -
Glad to hear it Enjoy the campaign! Badger633

Hi Glad you flew it through OK. The simple answer regarding the JDAMs is I do not use the laser at all. As you know JDAMs cannot follow a laser being GPS based. Not sure how you set up your JDAMs. I get them set up when routing in. Make sure each is set to TOO and instant e fuse well before you get to the target. This allows quick release when required. Set up the TGP and home in to the target area using the waypoint designate and then move the cursor to the base of the target. Then designate the target using a point just above the very bottom of the building. You are designating the point at which the bomb will hit so needs to be within the ground floor of the building. This will be locked into the bombs gps and it will follow this path. You must ensure your INS is set up correctly and also ensure you have designated the target not just moved the cursor over it. No need to activate the laser. Hope this helps Badger633

HI just flew mission 12 from the current download of the campaign. All went well, 420 followed as he should and SA6 showed up on the EW. (Not visible until you start approaching it). Sorry but I am at a loss to understand what has gone wrong in your case. Can you fly it again and see what happens? Badger633

Hi When did you fly this mission was it before or after yesterdays update. Also are you in open beta or standard and which version are using ie standard or added difficulty. I will look into this. This issue has never happened before on this mission. Recent DCS updates have been producing some strange AI behaviour. Badger633

Are you using open beta?

Hi Can you confirm the AH-1s took off at the start of the mission? I assume they did as you started ok. If so they have probably come and they shouldn’t have. Trouble is AI has being doing some strange things after some recent DCS updates. I will check it out and resolve. Yes that is exactly how the easy refuel works. There is no other way in the mission editor to give this facility. In this mission (in all versions) the refuel is optional. In a lot of the missions you have to refuel. In these, even though your fuel stays static, you will be required to get within a certain position at the correct speed behind the tanker to progress the mission. At least this option gives pilots the opportunity to fly missions that would be impossible until they get A2A refuel down. Hope your enjoying the campaign. EDIT : Just checked it out. Are you sure you are using latest update of the campaign. This was a problem once but the helos are removed from the mission 180 seconds into the mission on all four versions of the mission. As scripted and tested just now. So cannot understand how helos could be there at the end? Badger633

Hi I have issued an update to ED which is due out very soon. This hopefully deals with the issues you have raised. The incorrect early wingman confirmation that he has completed refuel is a bi product of changing the refueler route, as requested by others, to a race track. However have now put in a correction to stop this early call. Regarding the wing mans crash, DCS AI has been doing some strange things in recent DCS updates. Hopefully they will resolve this. HI You will get it. Just check out a video on the ins start up. Let me know if your really stuck. To find the stadium it is given as a distance and bearing from the way point. The easiest method is to fly around the way point and then fly in nad over the way point when on the given bearing. If you keep the last way point active you will have a distance read out also. Just need to fly accurately . Yes the campaigns will stretch you, but slowly and force you to learn new things. I am just working on an imminent update for the Serpents Head which will add kneeboards to all the missions. Will be out today or tomorrow. Badger633

Glad your enjoying the campaign. You will find the follow up campaigns ‘Serpent’s Head2’ and then the ‘Rise of the Persian Lion’ will introduce you to more and more varied missions and slowly build your ability to operate the aircraft. They also continue the story line of Ford’s escapades Badger633

Hi Would if I could. Dust has been added for atmosphere. Its set at max visibility at the moment. Fog is even worse for visibility even when set to max is far less than dust. So cannot increase any further. Just look on it as an extra challenge Badger633

Rise of the Persian Lion initial feedback
Badger633 replied to sirrah's topic in F/A-18C Rise of the Persian Lion Campaign
Hi Thanks very much for your kind words. I work really hard to produce an enjoyable and immersive set of missions. Really glad you have picked up on a few moments which were certainly not by accident but carefully planned. I like to get the lighting just right as much as possible to enhance the mission. Am working on improvements all the time and fix any issues as they occur. Not working on anything at the moment but maybe the Persian Lion may yet still have a twist up its sleeve
