TANKER TACAN ISSUE DCS BUG 13JAN22
Badger633 replied to Badger633's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
I have been developing new missions for next campaign and as long as you do not select AA the tacan has been working correctly. Which Campaign/ mission are you having a problem with. This is a known DCS bug. EDIT: Looks like there may be a problem with some older missions. I am getting to the bottom of it with ED. It may be I have to reset the Tacan, if so will be in next update. I will confirm this here when I have it sorted. EDIT 2: Have found a way around the problem and have updated all missions in all campaigns. I will submit files to be issued in next main update. I will have to wait for ED to get the discount corrected in the stand alone version unfortunately. They have said it is possible to use the steam version in stand alone as long as you have linked your Steam account to your DCS account. Must admit I have never done this so not familiar how it works. These are the links that ED sent me. Hope this makes sense to you, I must emphasis though I have never done this and so will not be able to help you with it. Sorry no. Have informed ED who said their team is looking into it. It’s out of my control until I get their response. Will update you here as soon as I get their response. Badger634 -
Hi Thanks for the update. Sounds good. What are the distortions like after you used the debug tool. Also how is it for smoothness. Got a I9 overclocked to 5ghz and a Strix 3090 here. Some have said you get used to the distortion. Also got the Index currently so ok for the stations etc. What’s it like for nose room? My snoz is slightly bigger than the norm. I suppose you should get it much smoother when Varjo activate their own motion smoothing. I heard they will be taking into account depth so should be on a par with the Oculus which is a much better system than that used by Steam which does not use depth information. Give is an update when you have had time to bed it in. Ready to press the button here. I know it’s expensive but like anything else whether it’s hi fi or sports equipment when you get to the cutting edge you are always going to pay for that privilege. Thanks.

Hi, to be honest it was the intention there should be 50% off the Serpent’s Head 2 in both Steam and standalone so I am unclear why it is not. I will raise your comment with ED and get back to you. Badger633 -
Hi The term 'Sinker' as used in the campaign means 'Submarine'. This point has been raised once before by another fellow pilot. So I will clarify this in a future update of the campaign by adding a note in the dialogue text so there is no confusion in the future. Hope you are enjoying the campaign and thanks for your comment. The main thing in night missions generally is to maintain your situational awareness at all times by using all the systems available to you in the Hornet. Also navigate and fly accurately. This a discipline pilots take for granted but in the real world they have to do all the time. Mission 6 will test this. Good luck your almost there. Badger633

Hi Let me know how it works out. I am sitting on the fence at the moment. If they use a depth buffering smoothing system it should be much better than the Steam system. You don’t get as much ghosting. This because it knows the propeller is in front of the scenery and not part of it. This prevents wobbling and distortion of the propellor or gun sights. A real problem with the Steam system. Thanks

Hi Can you explain what you mean when you say you cannot pass the missions ? Firstly if you simply fly the mission correctly you will pass to the next mission without the F10 by pass menu. The campaign 5 min by pass option allows you to select to move on to the next mission whether or not you pass the current mission. The 5 min period was introduced to so you at least try the mission once to follow the story line. The F10 menu for other things is of course available throughout the mission as normal. Since this ED has introduced its own system for mission bypass and selection which can be used also. Hope this helps Badger633

Hi Make sure you fly aggressively and give him an early shot to make him partly defensive. Yes it was a conscious decision to give you both short range all aspect infrared missiles. This to ensure you have more of a knife fight rather than a BVR to make it more interesting. To be honest I think you still have the advantage with the excellent AIM 9X when used with your HMD. Also it is towards the end of the campaign after all. Hope your enjoying the campaign. Badger633

You can try my free 'Serpent's Head' campaign. One version is in Nevada and the Caucasus, the other just in the Caucasus if you do not own the Nevada map. Each is with or without Supercarrier options, if you have the SC module. This campaign uses emulated voices only. Links below. If you like it then the follow up campaigns , 'Serpent's Head 2' and 'Rise of the Persian Lion' are available from the DCS shop. There is a continuous story line between all three campaigns. You will also find your knowledge and skill will grow as they progress. These later campaigns are fully voiced by actors and have the option of easy air to air refuel.
