Looks like you can get the lenses for the Varjo now. https://vroptician.com/prescription-lens-inserts/varjo-aero

Let me know where you get the inserts from please. Some have said the inserts could be a problem due to the automatic IPD system. cheers

Hi Was a bit surprised to hear that your reading glasses were such a big improvement. I am only slightly short sighted and use lens inserts on the Index to get the best it can offer. Normally with VR headsets it is the long distance prescription you use as that is what they ask for. I need reading glasses as well big time but with the normal long distance prescription used by the VR lens companies all is good no matter where I look in the headset. Had lenses in the oculus as well same thing. I suppose what I am asking is are you sure it’s the reading glasses that are doing the trick or is it just glasses. Still on the fence regarding the Varjo Aero at the moment as really like a smooth experience. Using 32gig Strix3090 and I9 overclocked to 5ghz. Hoping the Varjo motion smoothing will come soon. Cheers Badger633

To be honest getting a lock is not the most user friendly operation and does take practice. Suggest you look at a few videos and if possible set up a simple mission with a target and the Mavs. Then get plenty of practice iat different times of day so the lighting is varied. Things may improve with the new FLIR system DCS are bringing out. The ability to lock a Mav is in the main DCS Sim. and not as a result of any Campaign scripting so nothing I can adjust my end. Hope you get it sorted. Badger633

Case I overhead (port) holding ref. points laid out of ships
Badger633 replied to Razor18's topic in Bugs and Problems
Hi The four ships you refer to are not the markers for the holding stack. They are simply supporting ships so are both sides of the carrier. They are useful though as they are offset from the carrier by 1 nm so are a useful distance prompt for the down wind leg of the final port break just prior to trapping. In missions where Case 1 is operational you will note I have also placed three additional ships. These describe a 5nm circle on the port side of the carrier. One quadrant of the circle being overhead the carrier. The first additional ship then being placed 5nm 90 degrees port of the ship and the other two ships in the remaining two quadrants of that circle. These are the guide for the stack referred to in the mission briefs. You will note in missions where we have Case 3 in operation the additional ships describing the stack are not provided as they will not be used. Hope this helps clarify. Badger633 -
DCS: F/A-18C THE SERPENT'S HEAD 2 CAMPAIGN
Badger633 replied to Badger633's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Yes you can use any weapon you have left. The idea of gun use is just to spread the use of weapons in the campaign. No you can’t edit the Track file as far as I am aware. It’s a big problem Campaign creators have. If we find things the tracks are far too big. Also they are not that reliable especially in dogfight situations. Normally what you need to do is create a small vanilla mission demonstrating the issue. Could the issue be related to the sudden change in ground height of the dam edge confusing the Hornets sighting system. Not sure, and probably why you need to get quite close. Also try making a few bursts on approach correcting by looking at the impact points. Hope this helps. Badger634 -
You could find the unit and deactivate it’s radio using the tick box or change it’s frequency but this could impact the mission if he needs to communicate with you.

Hi The answer to the last part is yes if you want you can add a TGP as I do not restrict you rearming at the start of a mission. The thing is though the load outs were designed to test you in certain ways. I will check it out and get back to you here. EDIT: Have now flown the mission and used the AGM-65F’s without any problem. You obviously have to have master arm on and AG set plus set up the Mav so it is timed out. I also always set each missile to max zoom mode stepping through each one. You also need to play around with the screen contrast etc. to make the targets as visible as possible as it is the contrast which will help with the lock. Place the triangle in the HUD display in the area of the target. Select the Mav screen and once you move the TDC the cross hairs of the Mav will become stable to a point on the ground. Now move this point until it is over the target. The cross hairs which are not normally connected at their meeting point will close on the target. You than have a lock. If the cross hairs refuse to lock you can depress the TDC with the target very close and if you have good contrast the cross hairs will close on the target. You are then good to fire the missile. Hope this helps Badger633

Hi To be honest the lighting columns along the road cause a problem in DCS at the moment. If using the ATFLIR maybe approach so the lamps are behind the vehicle and not in front interrupting the lock. Maybe this will change with the new FLIR coming? Currently I would use your ground radar to help with the moving vehicle mode. I have done a video to show exactly how it is done. Link below Hope this helps.

Mission 5 voice over being triggered at incorrect time
Badger633 replied to DaveDewhurst's topic in Bugs and Problems
You missed the trigger zone on climb out, but flew over it on your return. The route is an acute angle so can see how you would have cut the corner. Will get this adjusted together with the typo next update. Thanks for the heads up Badger633 -
Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Hi No, there is no mission specific scripting regarding the JTAC position and height other than those within the DCS sim generally. I assume DCS have placed their own proximity rules within the sim to reflect JTAC comms limitations. Also the JTAC is active all the time in the mission we are discussing no triggers involved. Strange regarding the yacht example as in that other mission the trigger zone set has no height limitation. However never flown it at 40k. Badger633 -
He does pitch in with the air to air intercept which follows. OK, know what you mean, will keep it in mind for the next campaign I am working on now. Have to be careful though as to how much you leave to AI as they are not super dependable especially through DCS updates. Glad you enjoyed the campaigns. Badger633

Hi Which campaign and mission in particular so I can take a look. Normally in the air to air conflicts the AI wing man should engage a certain amount of the enemy aircraft but not all. (Otherwise you could just sit back and let him do all the work ) Thats how things worked on release. However there has been a mass of recent DCS AI changes over the last year. This has meant sometimes the AI is very fickle and may just decide not to engage. So let me know a particular mission and I will check it out. Badger633

Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
HI Just flew the mission as issued. I had no problem with JTAC Comms and also with the JTAC lasing for both targets. I called at 20 miles as instructed. (There is no mission issue with this its just a reasonable distance for good Comms.) Regarding the lasing, set up the Mav as normal and when the JTAC was lasing on uncaging the MAV locked on to position quickly and when cleared hot released missile first target down. The JTAC gave "Shift" and I turned and uncaged with immediate lock and released taking out second target. On first approach I am travelling in the direction of the flight plan. I climb to about Angels 16 and release so I am looking down in the valley say at a 30 to 45 degree vertical angle so very good laser visibility. Hope this helps. -
Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Not sure regarding the laser issue. Are you sure you have good line of sight in those instances. When I get time I will check out this end. Either way if intermittent it is a DCS issue as not controlled via the Mission scripting. -
Mission 8 JTAC doesn't respond
Badger633 replied to JethroTundra's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
Hi Just checked this out. No problems with communication with JTAC. COMM 1 speak button is RAlt+\ COMM 2 speak button is RCtrl+\ are you sure the bindings are correct? The fail zone is 19 N Miles radius from the target currently so you need to stay within this area. Hope this helps. Badger633 -
TANKER TACAN ISSUE DCS BUG 13JAN22
Badger633 replied to Badger633's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
I have been developing new missions for next campaign and as long as you do not select AA the tacan has been working correctly. Which Campaign/ mission are you having a problem with. This is a known DCS bug. EDIT: Looks like there may be a problem with some older missions. I am getting to the bottom of it with ED. It may be I have to reset the Tacan, if so will be in next update. I will confirm this here when I have it sorted. EDIT 2: Have found a way around the problem and have updated all missions in all campaigns. I will submit files to be issued in next main update. buy on steam play on standalone?
Badger633 replied to Japo32's topic in F/A-18C The Serpent's Head 2 Campaign
I will have to wait for ED to get the discount corrected in the stand alone version unfortunately. They have said it is possible to use the steam version in stand alone as long as you have linked your Steam account to your DCS account. Must admit I have never done this so not familiar how it works. These are the links that ED sent me. Hope this makes sense to you, I must emphasis though I have never done this and so will not be able to help you with it.
