don't meant to necro my old thread, but I just saw your response @Taz1004 2 years later You said that all smoke durations are now locked and cannot be modified, which explains why nothing I did in the config filed seemed to have any effect on burn times. i was banging my head against a wall for a while with this! Do you know if this is still the case with our latest DCS World version? I just picked up the sim again this week and one of the first thing I noticed was low burn times so it brought me back full circle to this thread -

negative, not sure how to do that. think that'll fix the issue? to test I moved myself to cat 1 and the AI to cat 3/4 and it works fine. its only when the player starts on cat 3/4 it won't let me take off

I did a hot runway start with the supercarrier and f/a-18, however I can't get it to launch. A few jets went in front of me, and now it's my turn. however the salute key does nothing. these dudes are just standing around. which one is supposed to tell me to go full power? or am i missing a step... UPDATE: i noticed it says this in the corner when the mission starts. does this mean I can't take off? null

For folks with a 2k/4k monitor and using DLSS, what are you setting your sharpness slider to? IMO setting it to around ~0.2 creates an amazingly detailed picture without jaggy lines around borders of object yet still pretty crisp and clear to a far distance (plus an extra 20fps). If i set it to the ED recommended 0.5 it starts to looks like the old image with bad AA and jagged edges. What are you all setting your sharpness slider to and do you think higher is worse or better? curious about feedback. cheers

I'm attempting to make a supercarrier mission with some F-18s taking off. However I'm struggling to force the mission to allow me (Player) to take off first. It keeps putting other planes first so I have to wait. I've tried placing the AI and myself on the carrier in different orders but it always fails to allow me to take off first. Also in relation, no matter which cat i choose, it always sticks me on cat 1. Are these known/common issues? Or am I doing something wrong? Thakns for any help mates. null

thanks for reply guys. my target was about 12nm out. could not get target to stay locked (BMT). and it would then just drift away and I'd lose the target. i don't remember it doing this a while back. hmmm is this a new step? i dont see it in Chuck's guide

I haven't flown the JF-17 in probably 8 months. I fired it back up today and am trying to lock a target with my targeting pod following Chuck's Guide. However the target reticle is constantly drifting and when I do attempt to lock a ground target, it unlocks about a second later and keeps drifting. Has there been a change that wasn't recorded in the Chuck Guide that requires extra steps now? Thanks for any help

since the update, has anyone else this issue: when pressing trim or up trim down, the aileron and elevator freeze in place for about 2 seconds before releasing and I can control the plane again. Every time i touch the vertical trim button, the controls freeze for a couple seconds. The sim itself goes on as normal, its just the plane joystick inputs that freeze. Anyone else?

Hi guys, I'm wondering if there's a mod to make smoke streams from destroyed vehicles/aircraft much taller? As it is now the smoke completely disappears just a short way off the ground and looks very unrealistic. null I remember there being a mod for this many years ago, but assume a newer one probably exists somewhere. Anyone able to help? null

Does DCS 2.9 support Windows 11 Auto-HDR feature that works with some games? Normally you'll get a popup when the application starts letting you know that auto-hdr has been applied, however I haven't seen this with DCS World. Anyone have any more info on this? Cheers

With my RTX3090 on an ultrawide monitor (and 10900k), I'm able to run at 80+fps with graphics maxed out on some of the most demanding sceneries and areas, whereas before I would dip down into the 40's sometimes. This is all the while looking MUCH better than any of the demanding AA options. Bravo ED!

ah, there's the info I was looking for, thanks. When setting up my missions in the ME I was confunsed by all the AI versions and what they brought to the sim. Was looking for visual differences, but now we know it's payload differences.

ah so DCS is indeed planning on upgrading the Huey graphics, good to know. But like you said, who knows when that'll actually happen.

gotcha, that's what I was wondering. There are 8 models in DCS, but only 2 flyable. So the other 6 AI-only are essentially the same.

thanks for the details, mate. good info. but also I was specifically looking for if there are any differences between all of these 8 versions within DCS. I know of the differences between the 2 flyable models, but, for example, you said "the F1M is the Spanish upgraded variant made with Thomson-CSF". But is this different than the other models in DCS? Does this model behave differently than, say, the F1CR in DCS?

that's great it seems perfect for you! no need to worry about this then. however for other folks it's very noticeable it's no longer up to 2023 levels of graphical fidelity, and deserves an overhaul in the looks department. This has recently been done with the Black Shark 3 as well as with the Gazelle. Also simply take a look at the Apache and you'll be amazed at what is possible with the modern generation of texture tools. Near life-like models are now possible. So if anyone has heard of any new of a possible update to our favorite helo it'd be great to hear. cheers!
