  1. Some more good news @ http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-after-the-free-upgrade-you-can-perform-a-clean-install-if-needed "Once you upgrade W10 w/the free upgrade offer you will able to clean reinstall Windows 10 on same device any time"
  2. Good news... But the EDGE release seems to be tied to the NTTR release after all.
  3. More than 8gb of ram may not bring any performance gain, but it certainly brought stability gain in my case.
  4. ED did send me an email a while ago, asking for my real name and forum ID. That was the day after I sent my email. Nothing new after that.
  5. Still no news for me. Any of you guys got anything new from ED?
  6. Very interesting discussion... Keep'em coming! Fun stuff to learn!
  7. I can imagine how exciting it will be the next time I upgrade my system... to GPU with 6GB vram, and a VR head gear or 4K display...:music_whistling:
  8. The sense of speed in the nttr map is crazy.
  9. ED's definition of beta is different from what I see elsewhere... The modules that I purchased from ED with a beta label felt actually pretty complete. IMHO, the beta label simply means there will be ongoing bug-squashing (which isn't surprising for a software as complicated as DCS) and performance tuning, both of which are likely to take forever to complete. In some sense, the beta label is like a shield to ED, protecting ED from certain complaints. Not sure about the alpha label, though...
  10. I would have agreed with you if I hadn't tried it myself. Granted that I didn't do careful comparison, but if there were differences in terms of performance, they weren't detectable. Not to me at least.
  11. Apparently it does not matter if 2X or 4X resolution is used for DSR, the performance is unaffected, as far as I can detect anyway. Both appeared wonderfully clear. But I also did not examine carefully if there are improvements from 2X to 4X. I will simply stick to 4X for the moment...
  12. When did I say 970 is not a good card as it is? Consider someone who bought it because its "4GB of vram" is somewhat future proof. Is it good for them? And as far as I have read, the low performance vram does indeed negatively impact performance. That's how it was discovered in the first place. I have not read anywhere that this part of the vram will be disabled completely. And next time, before you point your finger at others and accuse them of being "disinformation" and saying "rubbish", make sure you are standing on a more solid ground. Changing posture when confronted and pretending that you were saying something else does not make your argument more convincing, nor yourself more polite. I am done with this thread. Bye.
  13. I see. Since you call my concern misinformed, can you say for certain that the low performance vram will not cause any problems in applications that require more than 3.5 gb of vram? Care to offer more insights other than "nvidia will solve the issue with a magic driver"?
  14. For applications that require less than 3.5 GB of vram, it would be fine then. For those that require more than 3.5 GB, the low performance vram (LPVR) will still cause trouble and make things worse than if LPVR weren't there. My point still stands. As for the "Rubbish" part, I have some doubts... Were you referring to your own ability to argue as a mature adult, or your own skills of logical thinking?
  15. I can't say I agree that the 0.5 gigabyte difference will amount to nothing... And, as far as I understand, it's not as simple as 0.5 gigabyte less. It is 0.5 gigabyte low performance vram, which, imho, is worse than without that 0.5 gigabyte.
  16. IMHO, the problem with GTX 970 will be a concern in the future... I still remember when I bought 680 2GB in 2012, thinking that 2GB of vram should be plenty for years to come. Now with 4K displays everywhere and high-resolution vr gears on the horizon, 2GB suddenly appears to be so little. The same thing will happen for 3.5GB... and 4GB as well, but at a later time.
  17. DSR does wonders to DCS. I just tried it today. Thanks for the recommendation! What is more wonderful is the fact that my GTX 680 2GB is able to pull it off! I tried 2X resolution on my 1080P TV today and, while I could see things much clearer at longer distances, I didn't detect much decrease in FPS. Will try 4X next time. Let's see how far I can stretch it.
  18. Am getting it today, too. How long did it take you to play through the campaign? Are you going to replay it in the future? Thanks...
  19. Advice? Play more DCS, because that does not hurt anyone, including yourself.
  20. More readings? I haven't even finished The Ace Factor yet... I feel like being in high school again...
