Hello VR users, There is tips to recover the ALT-ENTER tips we were used to apply in order to have better performances I tested it with my Rift and performances are coming back - remove 'use DCS system resolution' in VR settings - use 'disable full screen optimisation' in DCS shortcut or DCS.EXE - apply the a fix in autoexec.cfg ( see thread ) - start DCS : ALT-ENTER works ! ( mirror is a black screen but everything is ok in HeadSet )

investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
fab.13 replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hello, Maybe the performances problem in OB 2.8 is related to FullScreen subject ( ALT ENTER not working anymore since few patch ) I applied a workaround in the thread bellow about ALT+ENTER and performances are very better for now ( 90 hz everywhere in my test mission as a rift user ) For the few tests i made, i keep the workaround. Could some VR users ( other tahn rift ) test the performances with this workaround ? See this thread : -
Hello, There is a similar thread in 2D forum A workaround exist and i tested it in VR mode : it works on mirror but it is a black screen (we don't care about the mirror ) The good news : performances are very better with this 'restored' ALT ENTER tips see that

Alt+Enter does not enter full screen; stuck in windowed
fab.13 replied to Nealius's topic in 2D Video Bugs
Hello, Thank you for this thread. You can find a similar thread in the VR forum ( ALT ENTER subject ) Here are the result of my test in OpenBeta 2.8 - 'disable screen optimisation in shortcut or DCS.exe' + Vsync ON ( in DCS )+ Autoexec.cfg (FlipMode=False) => ALT ENTER Works in 2D ( and better perf as we are used to get ) : Good ! - 'disable screen optimisation in shortcut or DCS.exe' + Vsync OFF ( in DCS ) + Autoexec.cfg (FlipMode=False) => ALT ENTER Works in 2D but BLackScreen or Transparent window : not playable , BAD - 'disable screen optimisation in shortcut or DCS.exe' + Vsync OFF ( in DCS )+ Autoexec.cfg (FlipMode=False) => ALT ENTER Works in VR ( Rift user for me ) ( BLackScreen on mirror but we don't care ) : Good and performances are as usual in 2.7 ( 90 hz everywhere with my settings ) Conclusion: Maybe the missing ALT ENTER tips could explain some performances issue meet on Open Beta 2.8 ( VR users mainly ) For now, i keep this FlipMode in VR Because DCS OB 2.8 is now as quick as it was in DCS 2.7 ( when ALT ENTER was available ) I can get 90 hz in my whole test mission with new light system, great ! If i remove full screen in VR with ALT-ENTER, fps drop down to 45 hz... -

Hello if New code has been added to dcs ( added and not replaced ), then frametime must be affected ( more computing ) And new code comes with bugs sometime…( beta ) Same about gpu: more Light source and so on we already met DCS open beta fps dropdown when the previous Lightning systèm was introduced and we have been drived to redo settings from scratch while ed has improved performances in the same Time ( it taked time ) -
Ram upgrade : add 2*8go to 2*16go
fab.13 replied to fab.13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello, Follow of my history I succeded DCS to crash again after a mission about 45 minutes. We played in VR, and the temperature has been very high i think ( GPU of the 1080ti was near 95% because of 90hz ) SIV show that some module has been over 61° ( see screen copy ) Whatever DDR setting i have, i learned that going over 60° is not good for the modules. Maybe I should run a MEMTEST to confirm may memory configuration is not the problem It shoud have crashed before than 45 minutes of flight. The next test will be to open a side panel and try to reproduce a crash and get temperature scan running. And a solution is about a better fresh air on my rig ( or only one Dual kit ) : - adding fan to extract more air - side panel with a grid to enter fresh air... -
Ram upgrade : add 2*8go to 2*16go
fab.13 replied to fab.13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello So i tried. - manual settings in BIOS : Windows failed to boot and machine restart - I reverted to XMP II in BIOS, and play with the first 32 go kit only : DIM sensor show 58° Celsius max on a long VR DCS mission at 90hz ( my machine is i5 10600k + 1080ti + Rift cv1 ) - I decide to remove one side panel of my rig : 48° max - I added the second 16go dual kit ( nearly same specs Trident-Z but the size ) : 48°, no crash - I put back the missing side panel : 58°, no crash ! => So there is no crash more ever with the both kit ( 48 go ) I tried many mission I connected to multiplayer syria server where global memory need could be 36 go ( switching slots.. ) : everything is Ok ( and quick to switch plane ) I don't understand, maybe i met a pure DCS bug on the few missions i tried first to test memory ( there are some script not of mine ) I'm going to do more test to confirm that it is now stable, maybe i'll remove one panel side in summer because the machine was really quiet PS: I used a very good tool to inspect sensor : "SIV - System Information Viewer" http://rh-software.com/ gskill 3200cl14D have temps sensor , not all gskill kit have. Thanks to both of you, i have been learning more about DDR4 for now ( 60° target limit about DDR4... ) -
Ram upgrade : add 2*8go to 2*16go
fab.13 replied to fab.13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks I could not get the exact same model on store, but timing are the same : dual 3200cl14 14 14 34 on the paper and cpu-z ( trident-z for the booth kit ) So i m going to set auto + settings and give a try as you describe my question : dram overheat not exist as a potential issue ? -
Ram upgrade : add 2*8go to 2*16go
fab.13 replied to fab.13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So i have tried, Motherborad, XMP 2 is ok about the 48go, settings are the same , windows run fine. But when i run DCS, it crash after 5 / 10 minutes of flight ( repeatable on different mission that i'm used to fly ) I suspect an overheat, because the 4 slots are very near from each other, No clean air can be moving around the DDR4 modules I dont understand why ASUS slot are so tricky ! ( see attached picture ..) Is my opinion about the crash could be right ? I think only one 64go dual kit will be better solution to increase ram on my machine and about fresh air... -

Hello is it possible to add a 2*8go dual kit on my motherboard ( asus z490 Intel 10th ) which already have a 2 * 16go dual kit ? Both kit are identical ( fréquence, timing, g.skill ) the only différence is the ram quantity The goal is to get 48go as DCS ram need are increasing…I didn’y find the answer in the asus manual thanks for sharing your expérience

Hello, You think about using OpenXR with your occulus headset ? Take a look there : https://fredemmott.com/blog/2022/05/29/vr-software-components.html I can read the writer answer there is no need for now. Maybe useful when DCS will support OpenXR native in the futur, and we'll have nothing to install/change in this case.

+1 Hello BigNewy, Could we get a status about this change/bug ? VR experience is downgraded for now.. ( mouse cursor is lost, DCS window out of focus etc…) Thanks

Some questions about VR and how to setup the damn thing
fab.13 replied to MaxisQ's topic in Virtual Reality
I own a Rift, here is what you should do : - start DCS alone ( without occulus running ), 'enable VR' in settings, choose 'VR Default setting' for the first run ( good fps bad quality ) - close DCS - start occulus - check that everything is green about materials AND allow unknow sources about application ( DCS is not part from occulus store ) - put the headset on your head : check your VR world is running fine from your eyes ( no stutter when moving head etc.. ) - start DCS , click DCS autorisation login , splash DCS screen should come up, enjoy ! - If everything is ok, now tune DCS Setting to get quality/performance balance as you want ( backup DCS settings when happy ) Have a Good Flight ! -
Hello, I didn't seen any stutter within DCS with occulus runtime ' 43.0.0.196.173' ( fresh update ) I mean it's run like v42 was running on my rig ( I5 + Rift + 1080ti ) maybe i'll keep to disable the automatic upgrade, and let other player to test about next occulus upgrade...;-) Indeed, if any problem occurs in the futur with occulus runtime, we could give a try with this : https://computerelite.github.io/tools/Oculus/OculusDowngraderGuide.html

Thanks Lange_666 Is anybody have found a procedure to chose the occulus version ? the block method you give is working good, but the true need is to be able to test any recent version While waiting for a fix ( we hope a fix ! )
-
Hello , I believe Lange_666 will not update to 43.0.0.192.173 until v43 stutter are fixed ? Lange_666 could you tell us what about occulus release on your side ? are you still in v42 ? Could we status about DCS stutter with v43 first and last release ( 43.0.0.192.173 cpu overhead fix ) ? CPU overhead was seen when playing DCS in VR ? or without any game running ? Thanks,

Hello, F1 run as Well as other modules i Have on my rig ( i5 10600k, 1080ti, 32 go , Rift cv 1 ) Try ‘vr settings’ on an Empty mission on Caucasus Map , disable hot devices plugin and Mirrors, swap file on ssd… ask to Flappy after such test
-
Hello, Most of DCS modules allow to turn off mirrors completely. It reduces cpu usage on lower machine ( very useful in VR ) Thanks
-
Hello, Rift CV1, SuperSampling 1.2, i5 10600k, 1080ti , DDR3200CL14 32Go, SSD Run as well as M2000 Module or any other ( i own 15 modules ) Tested in Multi ( true first flight with friends ) : 45 fps, some time 90 fps ( turn off mirror in both module ), no stutters VR Flying sensation is creazy good, and the sound is crazy good ( let's go to read the manual now .. ) Buy it !

Hello, In VR the goal is to balance Frequency vs Quality If you get a High Frequency with Quality for your eyes, then you have no problem. This is my opinion about this subject Then after, you cloud use a tool to get CPU frametime and GPU Frametime while playing It will be more accurate than basic Windows monitoring to find where to optimize or reduce load.
