  1. Something is odd here- you are only using 13gig of memory on Caucasus with those settings? I had terrain at low and with much worse preload radius and would use 14gig. I recently threw in 8 gig more (had two 4 gig sticks) just to see if it would boot and am now using 20-21 gig of ram on Caucasus. Why would he have so little ram usage? Does Nvidia offer a way to see what the onboard ddr5 is doing? That 1080ti has 11gb, I wonder if DCS is using that? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. In the a10c, this is done via the TGP. The Viggen doesn’t have such a pod. If you watch 1:23 you will see the maverick leave the rail and immediately the next maverick is bore sighted. This is how the mavs work. The a10c just has an easy way to tell the mav to “look at this point on the ground!” The Viggen has no such cool feature- just the camera in the maverick. 3. What’s a previous alignment mean? Like where you fire a mav at a target and then just move the cross hairs to the next target instead of having to bore sight and then come back on the next target? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. See attached MIZ file - Maykop airframes mimic red, gudauta airframes mimic blue. You'll find the Viggen at Maykop cold with full fuel (I hate waiting for fuel), but its otherwise like what you found in Blue Flag for round 10. Psebay (light farp) and Gubskaya (fuel depot) targets are very similar in location and type to what is found in BF round 10. Good luck! TJ BF Sochi Red.miz
  5. Can you walk us through how you do this? I haven’t been super proficient in the Viggen in a LONG time and so some of the newer features I am not familiar with. I should have time to post the mission tonight for those that have asked. It’s super basic, it was designed so I could test different airframes against targets and perfect ingress and egress. It has no cool scripts or features. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Great info- bummed to hear that the upgrade didn’t net much benefits. I was hoping the 10-15% better single thread performance would contribute to a noticeably better frame experience. Thanks for sharing your experience so other can learn! TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Mavericks and only Mavericks. The low defense farps and fuel depots only have two shilkas and two sams. You have four Mavericks. Don’t miss. :) I actually setup a mission based upon BF round 10 (which concluded two weeks ago.) if I get some time tonight I’ll post it up here so you can play with it. 8. No problem. Holler if you have any questions. Also if you get a chance, let me know how much memory you’re using and your graphics setup in DCS. I’m trying to decide if I want to add more memory (at a ridiculously stupid price) or wait another year and rebuild. I’m not much better than you- 4770k with a 780ti. My biggest issues are the lack of GB on the gpu and in the system. I constantly run at 15.8gb. :( TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Much better video card = same frame rate... Out of the box pass mark used multi threading which DCS does not use effectively (it does push sound to core2 but nothing else really.) Change your passmark scores to use single CPU and you should see results more in line with the website above. I haven’t used passmark in years, but that’s what I remember. TJ Edit- missed this... You can run DCS 2.5 quite well. You just can’t take advantage of all the extra processing power of the 1080ti. It’s an important distinction because about everyone I talk to doesn’t recommend upgrading from the 2600k because it can run DCS so well. It was an overclocking single threaded beast in its day and is why it still (10 years after its creation!!!!) can run DCS today. I think your expectations were “a bigger better graphics card will give me more frames” and that expectation wasn’t met and now you want to know why. The problem you have is that to take advantage of the power of a 1080ti you need to either a) increase how much data you feed it or b) increase your resolution (which leverages gpu and not cpu.) For an almost ten year old platform, it does AMAZINGLY well. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Have you watched it while DCS is playing? I’d be curious if 24gb is enough. I’ve got 16 and am looking to upgrade but DDR3 is stupid expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Check this website out: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html Yes- I get that your overclocked and you will score higher than the 1952 that this website shows. But as you can see the current gen cpu is scoring 2864 and can also be overclocked (though no where near the same percent of the 2600k- it’s an overclocking beast!) That’s a huge performance increase and where you need to allocate your dollars- although most agree you can save some coin and stick with the 8700k. :) Good luck TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. The problem with this logic is that the website is assuming the game can take advantage of modern technology. DCS is still largely a single threaded tool reliant on single threaded performance. The 2600k is no slouch, but it’s significantly showing it’s age in its single threaded performance. Also- what’s your memory specs? Anything less than 32gb (and I honestly can’t remember if the 2600k supports 32gb) and DCS will start swapping. This swapping will draw cpu cycles away from building frames and also contribute to poor frame rate. You can get away with 16gb - that’s where I’m at - but I’m significantly disappointed in how I had to change settings to keep Caucasus under 16gb. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Turn off hyper threading in the bios. You’ll pickup probably 5% gain in DCS (but other apps that can take advantage of hyper threading will suffer.) TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Man I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but a 2600k doesn’t have the performance to feed your 1060, let alone your 1080ti. The easiest way to tell if you’re cpu or gpu limited is to look at the performance of the gpu. If it’s not at 100%, you don’t need a new gpu. However. Hold onto that 1080ti. When intel releases the lastest cpu (which is based on the same arch of the current cpu) the current cpu will drop a bit and it will be a great time to upgrade the mobo cpu and mem. Just my two cents TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Latest leaks showing the 2080 is only 6% faster than the 1080ti in rasterization. Now remember that nvidia shuffled their names around with the 2k series so the 2080 is most comparable to the 1080ti (the 2080ti is the old Titan and the Titan RTX is the old Quadro.) I hope these leaks are wrong, but I wouldn’t be buying a 2080 based upon this unless it handled VR much better than the 1080ti. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. You don’t build bigger heat sinks to allow the consumer to over clock easier. You build bigger heat sinks because it generates more heat. Let’s wait to see when the cards hit shelves. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. It wasn’t designed to rasterize as its primary mission... I highly doubt we see numbers that high in legacy games. If we did, it would have been shown off at launch as that’s a massive improvement over the 1080ti. Instead, we got zero legacy numbers, a super tight NDA, and only numbers around ray tracing. Oh, and a crazy price increase. Something is up with this launch and my gut says it’s because the 2080 is not great in legacy games. That’s pure speculation, but it’s what my gut is telling me. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. You are already bottlenecking a 1080 (let alone a 1080ti) with this cpu/memory combo. Going for a 2080ti won’t rectify this. Honestly, I’d wait tell the 2080ti comes out and buy a used 1080ti then build the rig around 32 gig of memory. If you watch your memory usage today, you’ll probably find your at max. That means DCS is allocating cpu cycles to load and unload frames from memory and that’s taking time away from creating the rendering. I know, because I have your same setup (except mine is the K and I’m pretty significantly over locked.) You’ll never find DDR3 to upgrade your current board, so your best approach here would be to build a new cpu platform and save the bucks on the graphics card. Then wait a bit tell the 2080ti stabilizes and decide if you should upgrade the gpu or if the 1080ti does you plenty. But again- this is all based upon speculation. Until performance comes out for the 2080ti doing something it wasn’t really designed for (rasterization- which is how DCS builds frames) , we are all guessing. Good luck. 19. The su27 greatest strength is EO. They are always in the hills and hiding from radar so they can sneak a kill. Very dangerous on this server where the f15s greatest asset is banned. (That’s not a complaint, I love the matchup!) TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I get all that... I know the sa-19 is optically guided. So is the SA-13... but when it’s optics lock me up, the (I’m assuming) laser warning system goes off giving me the notice that I’ve been locked up. What’s different about the sa-19 optics that doesn’t cause this same behavior? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Total newb question - why is there no lockon tone warning or missile launch warning in the F18 for the SA19? If a SA13 launches, I get the proper tones followed by the missile launch warning. What is different about the SA19? I see the SA6 popup on the RWR, but it never moves into the threat area and the only time I've ever gotten a RWR tone on it (and the proper SAM indication) was when it was firing its guns at me (not its missiles.) What am I not understanding correctly for employment of this powerful beast in air to ground missions? Thx in advance TJ
  22. Cribob stated on discord that Friday would be the earliest before he could update the server to the new beta. As of now it’s on “stable.” TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. You’d almost never fly a pattern at 600agl if landing on a runway. Rare exceptions are boat practice. Think of how loud the jet is, on speed at 600agl. Do you want to live next to that? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. 30 degree bank ON SPEED 190 degree turn from the downwind. On speed is the key. And make sure your downwind is 180 degrees of the boats heading. Remember, the boat is steaming away from you as you go downwind so making the 190 degree base and final turn lines you right up. Good luck TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. is there a way in the mission editor to default the selection of a comm to FM instead of AM? For instance, in Channel 1 I have it set to 127.500 but when I load the mission it is defaulted to AM instead of FM. Can I change this in the mission editor? TJ
