Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9
Tj1376 replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Yup! Check out the BuddySpike discord channel. It’s where all the relevant news about this mission is now hosted. https://discord.gg/de4AvJ TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I’m no f18 driver, but ask the Viggen DCS pilots how difficult this is on their 1960s navigation system. It’s painfully difficult and being off by a small margin can make a big difference. Seeing as how the a10c does this automagically And the two planes share a similar navigation system, I believe we can call this a bug or a feature not yet implemented in the open beta. Agreed. This is either a bug or a feature not yet implemented as the aircraft is still beta. While I’ve never flown an f18 (or a plane with a HUD), having the pilot manually correct the barometric pressure for OAT would be very taxing. Especially while climbing or diving where OAT is rapidly changing. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is there anyway for us to purchase j11a on its own? I also own all the fc3 aircraft with exception of su25 and a10a. I don’t really want to pay for the fc3 pack just to pickup the r77. I’d gladly toss ten bucks your way to pickup the j11. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did you try the MIZ I posted in the google drive URL just a few posts up? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Post your MIZ? TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good to hear! Good luck! I’ve been flying since 95! :) And no, us Yanks don’t think about anyone other than ourself! TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hahahaha Didn’t realize we were talking helos, something I’m totally not qualified in. Wow- thanks for making me feel like a donkeys behind. I’ll just insert my foot in my mouth and carry on. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

CFR part 61.129 would disagree with your IRL statement about holding a CPL, but that digresses from the point of this thread. I do agree that the seat of the pants feel- what the aircraft is doing and how it responds to my inputs is the biggest thing missing today. VR helps but isn’t the complete answer. Force feedback on a yolk really helped Xplane feel much more like the real aircraft I fly, but still wasn’t there yet and I couldn’t fathom spending the kind of money they wanted. I’d rather be in the air! The video of the two f18 fighter pilots dogfighting in DCS pretty much summed it up. Without the feel over what the aircraft is doing and how it’s responding to my input, the FM will always feel different. So much of flying is done simply by feel - I’m a pretty good stick and rudder pilot, but I can’t keep a ball centered in a coordinated turn in any flight sim to save my life. I just can’t feel the plane. TJ

Agree. Thank you for the heads up! It’s so good to see the team update all their projects, even knowing you’re in the final hours of the F14 release. From having owned other modules, I just really appreciate the small updates and conversation you continue to have over this product. Thanks for having such great customer centricity and support! I wish you guys much success in the future!! TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here you can find a mission and a track file of f18 employment of GBU using a CTLD Jtac or a regular ME jtac (on 264, which is radio 1 channel 1) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NgRQSxouUYJMz3A6X7LI2iGkpJs3WCSI Moral of the story- it works great using the limitations we currently have. Get in the habit of throwing them and you can be quite combat effective. **please note- this is not meant to be an accurate / realistic depiction of employing the gbu in the f18, but is designed to show you one way of employing the weapons.** TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This employment isnt perfect by any stretch of the imagination. And to be right honest, I imagine that the real employment wouldnt work this way (you'll notice I dont designate the waypoint as my target (on purpose, I DO NOT want guidance and the restrictions that come from that guidance) - however, as you can see its really effective to "toss" the GBU at 13-16 miles out and let the laser do the rest. And yes, you'll notice that after the first four bombs come off I forgot to update the laser code to 1688 for the rest of the bombs so one misses. Folder with Track and Mission Yes- I opted to use CTLD for the lazing as I grew quite irritated at the limitations of the DCS JTAC, as well as how slow it took to employ - that JTAC is still present though (invincible, invisible drone flying over head), so feel free to use it if you prefer that approach. He is on 264 which is set as radio 1 comm 1. TJ

Thx. Subbed. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Ahhh! So I’m getting type 3 because the range of the Stryker and hmmvv TOW is outside of the range of its weapons. Move them closer (like in the above example) and I should have no issue? Grief- it sounds like it would be easier to learn CTLD. :( TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

how to set correct Waypoint for GBU delivery "TGTDSG"
Tj1376 replied to JABO2009's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Hsi on screen Data osb (top of hsi) Right side move waypoint # to the # you want to edit. For now just move it to 1 to edit the first waypoint UFC osb (left side of hsi) Go to the ufc (up front controller) Click position to put the : Enter 2 for North, then enter north coordinates press enter Enter six for East, then enter east coordinates press enter TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Negative. I’m learning the f18 too, but as of this moment I am unaware of ANY guidance for a guided bomb drop. It will come when we pickup atflir but as of now, gbus are employed with a “best guess” of how to drop. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How do I use LGBs? I haven’t downloaded the file, but from the first ten seconds of the video clip he appears to be using a predator to laze. We’ve already proven that the predator does work type2- it’s the other type 2 capable ground units that seem to have lost their ability to laze causing the confusion. Edit: I’ve now watched the entire video. Predator to laze and he does a true ccip delivery of the gbu onto the target (he puts the ccip pipper over the target and pickles.) It could have been mark 82s and he would have hit that target. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I believe in a real tactile employment you’d always enter the numbers. It’s a check and balance system. FAC reads coordinates, you input them. Slew pod to coordinates. Verify target. Target lazed. Verify the laser spot is the target discussed in the nine line, which matches the coordinates input. I believe the idea is to then give the pilot the ability to double check the FACs work and make sure everyone is talking about the same target. Less chance for folks to drop ordinance on the wrong grey Toyota. Or wrong white square house. Even in the a10c this same methodology is followed, even if the FAC just electronically pushed the target to the a10. I don’t honestly know if our early lot 20 f18 has that same capability. The piece that I still think you think is missing is the tpod (called atflir.)Without it, you’re not putting a laser spot on the hud. You’re not getting a designate diamond on the hud. You’re not verifying your target. And you’re not getting CCRP guidance. That makes the employment of GBUs on the f18 tedious at best and to your point, not much different than a CCIP mark 82. However, I do have some awesome 25k feet 14-16 mile gbu tosses that strike their target- that’s something you can’t easily do with a mark 82. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Enable JTAC or FAC in ME If any of you have figured out how to get a Stryker or Hmmvv TOW to provide a type 2 in effect message upon contact, let me know. But I think this graphic is either woefully outdated OR a bug was introduced in the latest OB. TJ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You are preaching to the choir - but when someone else writes and supports the crutch, the crutch gets used for a LONG time. Much of the work Cribob has done has made its way into DCS, and the servers he runs and maintains (Buddyspike / BlueFlag) are being supported directly by ED to help build a better multiplayer platform. I assume at some point (in two weeks probably!) we will see his CTLD & SRS scripts into DCS as native functionality - but when is anyones guess. TJ
-
Yep, written by the infamous Cribob. If you want to get serious about JTAC, its the only way to go. No, you and Wags arent using his work in this mission - but the Grim Reapers in the youtube video posted are using his work. TJ
-
He is using a script to provide JTAC because the ME JTAC has been so broken for so long - many folks use CTLD or MOOSE for these functions. This WILL NOT work in your game without a mission specifically using these special CTLD/MOOSE scripts to provide JTAC. TJ
-
Your designate diamond on the ground is because waypoint 1 is on the ground and over the target area - not because you are seeing the laser. :) Something is wrong in this new version - the only type of vehicle I can get to laze now is the MQ Predator. This is NOT F18 specific, lazing for the A10C also does not work with anything other than the MQ Predator. None of the vehicles which I have used in the past will now provide a Type 2 in effect message. For instance - in a PG mission I have, I use a Stryker ICV to lase - this worked previously but now only provides a Type 3 in effect. I tried swapping it for a HMMWV Armament TOW vehicle, which is also Type 2 capable. No joy (only type 3.) What is really odd is the targets you use in your mission (i'll look them up and post in this spot shortly) seem to ask for guns if you have gun ammo. I cant reproduce this with any other vehicle type that I use in my missions (although i typically dont use light armored vehicles - so by no means is my research exhaustive.) TJ
-
The problem with this video is he is using either CTLD or another script for JTAC - he isnt using default mission editor JTAC, but otherwise yes, this is spot on for helping in the event that you cant get your bombs on target. But it wont really help with the issue we are talking about with JTAC calling for gun runs. TJ
