  1. Was noticing this the other day with Ka-50. Shoot 5 or 6 rockets from range at a Stinger soldier. They land all around near him, but he doesn't die. Appears to be no fragmentation effect whatsoever in DCS.
  2. What I REALLY want to see, is a Shkval that actually "see's" by contrast. Air targets should be able to easily be seen then. You can't hit CRAP in the air right now. Air targets will simply not lock.
  3. So far, from what I can gather on the different forums - new 3 pylon wings, igla's, improved model, everything else up in the air because of Russian laws (i.e we probably won't get the other stuff ).
  4. Lol! "2 weeks". I've been waiting for 10 years for igla's on the Shark. Hopefully they arrive before I leap into my grave.
  5. Best of luck man! ANY FPS at this point is more than welcome!
  6. Ditto! I love watching stuff I can't afford.
  7. Lol! Love the truck scene. AirWolf vs. AirWolf vs. RedWolf Miss that show. Mach 1+ Shark when?
  8. Placing infantry with stingers on ships would be a very nice addition.
  9. Not that I know of. One of the problems with this sim. There is no real "Editor", besides placement of troops and vehicles. The airfields are literally part of the map, so we can't make like hastily constructed runways or such. At least to my knowledge. I THINK we can make helicopter FARPs.
  10. Lol, as I said, you get used to it. And of course, stuff like this is just people trying to get the thread closed. Just ignore it. __________________ This was posted on Mudspike. It shows a lot of what the UE5 engine is capable of. You should pay special attention to the demo of "nanite" technology. It is really incredible when you realize this demo is being played on a Sony Playstation 5. I don't think my gaming computer would be anywhere near capable of this in a regular engine. The amount of triangles being thrown around is unbelievable. "Niagra", the new particle system, is also very interesting as well, backed by the Chaos physics engine. Imagine what we could do with this when Mk-82 iron bombs hit the ground, throwing frag everywhere. Destruction of buildings, infantry being taken out, tires and windows blowing out, craters being formed in the terrain, etc. Now think of what we could do with this in large worlds, like flight sims. Can you imagine DCS running on this? If this can run on a Play Station, what can it do on a modern gaming computer?
  11. Yeah, this is the usual here when you try to discuss the future. You get used to it. Carry on. @HoBGoBLiNzx3 Awesome video! I had not seen that one yet. I'm glad I have not bought VR yet. I may have to look at that goggle and consider building a pit. This just shows how we are sailing faster and faster into the future. Which is a good example of why there should be companies that concentrate just on Engines, and other companies concentrate on making sims for those Engines. The workload is getting to be too much to keep up with. And it's going to get faster and faster and faster.
  12. Lol, you need to read everything about it. This is a whole NEW LEVEL of engine. Especially Lumen and Nanite. It leaves UE4 in the dust. To me, the main advantages are, it can use the raw power of new cpus and gpus. The graphics are astounding. We can finally get FPS and Vehicle modules into the sim. We can make our own large maps quite easily. It can make maps as big as Earth itself (up to 88 million km2). It has a Google Earth plugin if you want to go the easy route. We can make smaller maps for helicopters and vehicles / fps packed with high quality, enter-able buildings. Personally, I wouldn't mind some homemade fantasy maps like we used to have in the old days for FPS sims. Adding realistic Flight Sim to them would be AWESOME! Oh, it also has destructible meshes, so tanks and such really do explode. This is literally the Future, starting now. They already made a hardcore flight sim for the military ( I think Heatblur was involved with it ), so we know it is well capable of that. Exact properties of the sim are not being given out, but there is a video floating about showing its beauty. I can't remember which fighter hud they show, but it looks amazing. I'm not bashing DCS. It does an amazing job for what it is. GREAT Flight Sim. But ED should consider whether it's time to move on, seeing as what has just come out and what the future looks to hold. I think ED has to consider whether a loss of 5% of profits is worth getting a LOT more customers and not having to deal with ancient engine development ever again. I hope they take their time and think about it. It would make a Hell of a DCS 3.0 in a few years, and then you would have an actual WORLD.
  13. Never say never. Especially on a 30+ year old engine. There actually has been a massive flight simulator built on UE5 already, but so far it is only being sold to militaries. So, ED has a chance to get in first for a public flight sim.
  14. Hmm, didn't know ED had been around back then. Didn't see them until Black Shark came out. So, if this engine has been done and redone, over and over, since 1991, it really shows it's age. So how much more can it be pushed? And how quickly? That's kind of the whole point of this debate. It feels like tech is leaving us behind.
  15. Considering EPIC was around long before ED, and is one of the Major Companies, I don't think I'd worry about them closing or going bankrupt, or stealing your intellectual property.
  16. The point is, all the physics calculations, and the models could be ported in some way or other. The rest would be up to the new engine and it's plugins. And then, you wouldn't have to put time into keeping up the engine. You could work on the sim itself. Yeah, but as the point has already been stated, those engines were nowhere NEAR the leap in technology that UE5 is showing. I wouldn't have even bothered discussing UE4 or Cryengine as an alternative. Besides, Cryengine was a lot of "illusion". It's just something to think about for DCS 3.0. Besides, people want to see more combined arena's now, with FPS, vehicle and flight simulation brought together, in a single World. Here's DCS chance. On another point, does anyone besides me think that there has been a strange leap in tech of late? UE5, new Nvidia 4090 almost doubling power, etc.
  17. Lol, yeah, I see it. Hopefully "soon". I want my Iglas!
  18. Yeah, I wouldn't have bothered looking at UE4 as a possible new DCS engine. But UE5 is a WHOLE new engine, with capabilities I never thought would be possible. It is Definitely worth looking at. I hope ED will consider the implications of what is happening, and give it some thought. I understand the pain of dropping something you have worked so hard on, but at some point, you must consider whether that engine is competitive anymore. Or if it is time to move on. DCS is the best flight sim I have ever seen, but at some point, your going to get competition in the flight sim market with this new UE5 engine and it's available plugins. Epic is definitely looking to enter that market. Sorry if we skirted the rules a bit BigNewy, but this Huge leap in technology is something that we really needed to discuss. I hope they come out quickly.
  19. This is my problem. I'm just getting very disenchanted with the engine. All these years, and still runs on one core. Until we get multicore and Vulkan, there's not much to do. I REALLY need to build a new computer. Mine is 9 years old now. But I don't see how it's going to do much with this old engine, and money is very tight.
  20. I think the biggest question is, CAN ED do anything more with their engine at this point? It's pretty ancient now in computer terms. We keep asking for Vehicle and FPS, or even just better AI, and ED stays mute. I love DCS, but I think it's time for ED to start looking to a future engine that is WELL ahead of what their current one can do. One that can run on more than ONE core, at the least.

    Unreal Engine 5

The problem with really old engines like DCS is, are they capable of simulating flight sim / vehicles / fps over whole worlds at modern graphics, or have they reached their limits? I think at that point, you should start considering buying in to a modern engine, and how much of the old material you would be able to port over, and how long it would take. I've downloaded UE5 and it really is a step up from the old UE4, which I really wasn't that impressed with. EDIT: EH! Double post. Sorry.
  22. Exactly how I feel. Tanks seem to just be turrets stuck in the ground. I pick them off at range. Boring. They just sit there when they can see the missiles coming at them. Aww. I want to see someones hand fly up and smack my cockpit window. Give me a chance to use the wipers.

Actually, you can now enable Large Worlds, and it will allow maps to 88 million km square by enabling 64 bit double floating point coordinates. Flight Sim ON! Lol, maybe. Have yet to see real proof of how much power, etc. it would take.
