At this point, I'm beginning to wish they would just do the Ka-52 with whatever they can find, and educated guess, since they seem to be launching into total fantasy with the Ka-50 now anyway. We need glass cockpit.

fixed There is a hole in the v2.7 map! ;)

It's where the aliens enter the Hollow Earth. -
Yeah, everyone knows which sim you are talking about, and they did it 20 years ago. ED is too intent on punching out new modules with very simplified systems. All these systems need to be brought up to realism. And if they did all this, maybe I could convince a lot more of the people I know to ditch that 20 year old game ( and it's 90's graphics ), and come over to DCS. The graphics are decent, the flight simulation on the Ka-50 and A-10 are pretty good ( the only two I REALLY fly ), it's the AI and the systems that need work.
-
Not sure about the Apache, but the Ka-50 does have an auto hover. However, you have to get it in a near perfect hover, and then hit the button. Otherwise, it doesn't work. And in strong winds, it hardly ever works well.
-
Yes, ED needs to cut the simplistic "time of day" crap and work on realistic EO. Hopefully, it is next after they figure out RADAR.
-
Well, this sounds a lot like the Shark, except that it actually resets the center of the stick as well. I don't fly the Huey, so I don't know it's system. As above, it sounds more like the Shark. The Shark has the auto hover and other stuff because your a single pilot. In the Apache, you have a pilot and a gunner, which should make things a lot easier. I can pilot it, and let the gunner worry about firing Hellfires and the gun.

Lol, you're mixing stuff up. The Ka-50 is a literal experiment. We'll probably never know exactly what it could carry or it's functions. Looking at the Ka-52, which was made from it's experiments, we can have an educated guess. The other aircraft, yes, except for a few small secret details, we know them. For instance, though the Apache is airframe capable of carrying stingers, the US Army version, which it is modeled after, already carries CMWS on the wingtip there, and the cockpit has been changed to accommodate it. So, if we wanted that capability, we would have to model an export variant. I too wish to stick to realism. And yeah, there has been some fudging, like you can load 3 Mavericks on each pylon on the A-10, even though in reality, it will end up burning the tires. Maybe there should be some realism tick boxes in the setup ( most players probably aren't even aware of these limitations ). I hear there are some issues with the Viper and the FA-18 as well, such as carrying AMRAAMS on pylons that aren't normally wired for it, but I don't know that aircraft, so I cant' comment on it. As for the Ka-50, I view it as an experiment, and a weak one at that, so I'm not too worried about what they do with it. I'm probably going to switch over to the Apache, which is more capable anyway. And this is why people like me want more attention payed to the Ground. It's too simple down there. If DCS is going to start building more heli's, we need a better Ground environment. As for the SHORAD, it's amazing how there is no air defenses in MASSES of tanks on the Ground. For instance, in the mission BATTLE, for the Ka-50, the only air defense on the ground is one self-propelled Vulcan. It's a joke. I'm not an expert on tank formations, but you would think they would have something more than that guarding a massive tank formation against air attack.

Just don't mount vhikers and turn the MWS off. Now your right back to BS2. If the MWS is like the A-10C, I'll be turning it off as well. Useless in a packed battlefield. Only good if your out in the middle of nowhere and someone tries to ambush you.
-
Well, if it's like the MWS on the A-10, it just goes nuts and reports every missile on the battlefield, whether it's coming at you or not.
-
It doesn't take a wizard to see what they would have become, and what their intended role would be. And as of now, what little they have done with BS3, I don't see myself buying it.
-
If you play any missions with enemy helo's in them, you've got a dogfight. They come at you as fast as they can. You are enemy #1.
-
Not sure if it was ever tested on the Apache, but on this US one, we can't mount on the wingtips because of CMWS already there. Plus, the uncage button has been taken up by another function. If we want Air to Air, ED will have to make an export variant of the model, like the German or Japanese AH-64. They carry stingers if I remember right. Maybe they'll do it. I would think an interesting variant would sell well. Of course, they might have different engines, etc. which would complicate things.
-
Exactly. I'd rather just have the MWS box zip tied to the frame than this mess of input to ABRIS. We really need glass cockpit, just like Ka-52. This is why Kamov had to eventually go to it. To fit everything in.
-
Yes. This is a future iteration of the Ka-50. It's a vision of what it would have been if it had been actually put into service. Though I am pretty sure it would have had FLIR, because the Ka-52 does. And since it would have been an extension of the Ka-52, it would have HAD to have FLIR to fly with the Ka-52 at night.
-
It's because it's what we think the Ka-50 would be if it had ever been mass produced, and since the Ka-52 has three pylons, the Ka-50 probably would have as well ( why make 2 different wings? ).
-
Yep, same as I posted above. So, it's correct then. Also, in my post, I translated it to English (Google Translate). So, everyone knows what this law is they are talking about now.
-
Sorry, no clue. But here it is in English. And Russian.
-
Lol, yeah, it's not that bad. The big problem is the tree's don't appear till your right on them. I need a new computer, but it's a BAD time to buy computer parts.
-
This. This is the problem. Yeah, there are variants and ages where things are changed. But some changes are pretty big, so ED would literally have to make variants of the aircraft they are simulating. It's not just the weapons hanging on the stations. All arguments are literally affected by this. For instance, if we want to put stingers or sidewinders on the Apache, we can't just stick them on, because the US Army is using that wingtip space for it's CMWS system. So, it's a change not only in the wingtip space, but also a change in the cockpit, systems, etc. It's too much, and we're breaking realism. Now, I can see if ED would want to sell some variants of it's main module. It might not take much work, and they could charge the owners of the main module like $10 for the variant. I imagine they would sell quite a few. And if someone didn't own the main module, and wanted only the variant, well they could charge them the same amount as the main module for just the variant. I think that would satisfy a lot of people's griefs. Hopefully it gets better when they release the Dynamic Campaign. That should introduce a little more "game". Now gamewise, I would love to see some smaller maps, with FAR more detailed terrain, and get a game like Crysis - Power Struggle going. Maybe one day. I really am hoping, that one day, after they have finished the "sky", and put out all the major aircraft, that they start looking more at the ground, vehicle simulation, and eventually, FPS.

Well, the reason we need Igla's is because the shkval is so horrible at locking air targets. Even slow moving ones. The Igla is not as good as the Sidewinder or the Russian R-60. It's smaller and made for close range ( ~ 5 km ). We really need a new EO with FLIR. GOES 451 or 452 that the Ka-52 is using now would be great. As I recall, the shkval was dumped after the Ka-50. Guess the Russkies weren't impressed with it either. The Cockpit will probably remain the same with what they are offering now. MWS will go to the MFD, and there is already a switch for AA selection. Supposedly, we are getting an external model remake. Totally agree with the FLIR. The Shark can't do night missions without it. The flares are a joke, and instantly give away your position.
-
Well, they are going with the wing and the igla's because it's an educated guess at what the Shark would have been if it had actually been pressed into service. This is the same wing that the Ka-52 carries ( i.e. why make two different wings? ). We NEED iglas because the shkval is so HORRIBLE at locking even the slowest aircraft. Not really worried about IFF because we only have short range weapons ( no BVR or such where we can't see what we're shooting at ). The thing that most Shark players are mad about, is that they left out FLIR. This becomes complicated, because in the version that had FLIR, it used I believe at better version of the shkval, and also a seperate FLIR camera built above the shkval. On the Ka-52, it uses an All-in-One type system called the GOES 451 or 452, which I would believe would have been used on a future Ka-50, since it is the same on the Ka-52. We need FLIR, because otherwise, the Shark cannot fight at night. It has flares, but they're a joke, and instantly give away your position when you fire them. Not to mention, most of the armor down on the ground probably has FLIR as well. And of course the AI are ALL-SEEING. And LOL at the guy whose obsessed with putting confused faces on all my posts now, even the ones from years ago. Get a life.

I read through the "law" when it was posted. It's about 3 pages long, seems to deal almost exclusively with spying, and was actually pretty vague IMO in some parts. I really didn't see anything that looked like it would have to do with us. ED just needs to try to keep up good relations, and I'm sure they'll be allowed to model stuff. Especially old stuff like Igla's and heli's like the Ka-52 that started service in 1999. I just don't understand the problem with DCS making a Ka-52. Other sims have modeled the Mi-28 and the Ka-52. Maybe not to the level here, but no one else has ever seemed to have a problem with it. Their cockpits are shown all over the internet. It's not like they have any more secrets than, say, the A-10C. There's stuff in the A-10C still secret. You can see that when they blur out certain readouts on the MFDs when showing footage on TV. You just don't simulate that, or make an educated guess when modeling it. We understand there are still secrets. We're not looking to steal them. We just want to simulate what they are willing to share.

If you have problems, you just need to turn off the eyecandy. It's what I do. I have an 8 year old computer. Turn off all the eyecandy and you can hit near 100 FPS. Realism / function before eyecandy.
-
The shkval needs to be dumped. We need an EO upgrade.
-
As many have stated, no one's going to buy it unless it has FLIR. The whole EO system needs an upgrade. No FLIR, no night attack ability. Like a blind tiger.
