  1. And if you want a REALLY longwinded explanation of it's guidance system, go look up my question on it in the Russian forums. There were some really good answers from some pretty knowledgeable people.
  2. Eh, forget it. Pretty burned out on it right now. What we really need is a Ka-52.
  3. Tiny changes to make a "new module" won't sell. You can already see the comments on here. Besides, it's a III. Do we have to buy a IV just to get FLIR? It is well documented what people want to see on an "upgraded" future Ka-50 are. I know they probably won't do it, so personally, I'll probably just dump the Shark, and go with the Apache. Now see IronChancellor, you ARE making a fantasy if you change the fuse timing in the S-80M, because unlike the Shark, it really does exist and in quantity. There are no more Ka-50's. They were an experiment to begin with, and by now have been scrapped for parts for the Ka-52.
  4. Lol, you have no choice in DCS missions. Helicopters will ATTACK you, even if they are miles away. They will ignore every tank beneath them to get at you. If heli's are on the map, be prepared for an Air to Air fight.
  5. Unfortunately, if we really want stingers, we'll have to get an export variant of the Apache, because the US is mounting it's CMWS system on the wingtips ( where the stingers would normally go ).
  6. The real problem is, the Ka-50 is weak enough as it is as REDs main attack chopper. But worse, it will be EATEN ALIVE by the Apache. Ka-50 doesn't even have night capability ( flares are a bad joke ). BLUE has always dominated the battlefield, because DCS is just not modeling modern RED aircraft. If you can't get exact information on a copter, I think DCS is well capable of making very educated guesses on how things work. At least within reason and simulation. Especially on a Ka-52, as we already have the info on the Shark, and pictures of the Ka-52 cockpit are easily available. There are really few secrets when it comes to the Ka-52. Yes, I want everything as realistic as possible, but we really are losing the "modern" RED side. Well, I see the iglas and third pylons as an update that would have happened, because Ka-52 got that wing, and why make 2 wings? However, we wouldn't even need the iglas if we could lock air targets with the shkval ( which was also eventually replaced with the GOES as it was deemed unsatisfactory in the end ). Also, if we had realistic shrapnel, which doesn't seem to be modeled at all right now. FLIR is a MUST. Without it, the chopper loses all night capability. Those flares are a joke, not to mention give away your position just like a flashlight on a gun.
  7. It always was a fantasy chopper. I'm sure there is stuff in it that is still classified to this day. It was a testbed. And many varieties were made. They all led to the Ka-52 being built. So whatever they do with it, it doesn't matter. Especially if the Ka-52 can carry it. In the end, the Ka-50 was supposed to be the "hand" of the Ka-52. It would do all the strikes and dirty work, and the Ka-52 would be a command unit, directing the Ka-50s.
  8. Yeah, it REALLY needs FLIR. You can't do night missions with it. So, no DIRCM, no FLIR, no RWR, no realistic simulation of the Shkval, no ? . At this point, I'm beginning to think the Hind is going to come out stronger. If no more love is given to the BS, I'll probably just switch to Apache. As I'm sure most of the old BS pilots are going to do.
  9. Yet, it's more than DCS has, which is NOTHING. And looking at how things are going, signal what the future for RED is going to look like. Looks like it's going to be start making educated guesses, or have no Red side to fight against.
  10. "ping" is NEVER irrelevant. Anyone who plays FPS knows that.
  11. Well, seeing as they aren't getting info from Russia anymore, and are actually being squeezed by them, maybe they should reconsider their location...
  12. Lol, no other developer seems to care about this supposed "law". Even War Thunder has modeled the Ka-52.
  13. If they're just going to do educated guessing, why not make a Ka-52 the same way? I'd much rather have that. And it would be an opponent for the Apache. Obviously, the Russians aren't going to give out any more information beyond like old Mi-24, so it's educated guessing is all we're going to be left with when it comes to modern Russian equipment.
  14. What we really need is a Ka-52. But you can already see it looks like they ditched the President-S, so I don't see any more modern aircraft coming from Russia. Time to join the Yanks!
  15. The problem is, without FLIR, and a few other things the Ka-52 has, the Apache is still going to eat it alive. Igla's will make a little difference, but those are mainly for defense against low flying jets ( because the shkval is so BAD ).
  16. Nice. Hope they'll show a pic of the new cockpit soon. But I guess, it's really just the same, since MWS will just be put on the screen, and we already have a switch for the igla's on the collective. Without FLIR and still bad shkval, it won't be a match for the Apache though. It needs a GOES 451 or 452 upgrade.
  17. Yes, you can do this, but you should realize how the missile is guided. It's not a laser tracker, it's a beam rider. A cone of lasers is output, and the missile tracks the middle of this cone, from it's rear. So, you can't really just launch without a lock because chances are the missile will miss flying into the cone. That's why you have to aim well at the target before you launch. The cone also tightens as the missile nears the target. This is why if your going to fire two missiles at a target, you need to fire them rapidly, one after the other. I've switched to manual when I couldn't fire for some reason, but still had lock. Other than that, I would say it is an emergency switch to fire Vhikers at close range without lock ( like if your shkval is damaged ). A Hail Mary shot, if you will.
  18. It's coming. Confirmed by both Chiz on the Russian forums, and Wags on a Youtube post from the last podcast. As of now, it will be released after the Apache. So, I guess we'll see what happens.
  19. Yeah, I can't see those two ammos being near the same.
  20. Well, against things that fire back, you've got to spin and slide. The funnel maneuver is pretty effective against bmps and such, if they don't have too many buddies near them. If not SAMs are around, you can stay high, and avoid tank fire. It SAMs are are around, and the tanks / apc's are in a good position to cover each other with machine gun fire, then about the only thing left is pop up attacks from cover, and hope there's not a BTR-90 in the lot with a high skilled grenadier.
  21. Lol, I said CLOSE. Like 10 meters. Use them like a knife. Of course, against trucks, I would have just flipped the gun to manual, lased to get correct pipper offset, then fired guns and strafed. At 3km, I'm usually using vhikers.
  22. Maybe realistic, but 1960 tech is something I'm not really interested in. Oh well, Apache will Rule the Night.
  23. Chalk up another "the AI sucks" thread. Yeah, it sucks.
  24. Hmm, I can imagine going to the doctor, and telling him you hurt your back on a hard landing in your flight simulator.
