  1. They've already said in the Russian forums it will have 3 pylons. But that won't sell me. I want FLIR and Night Attack capability. Ka-50sh or Ka-50N
  2. Lol, that would be the end of Black Shark, as it's pretty much suicide to fly it on a DCS battlefield. It's just a turkey waiting for a fighter jet to shoot it down. I bet they could do a better mod than Star Citizen! Personally, though, I have little interest in buying a "Black Shark III" unless it has FLIR and night attack capability. ( I don't see why they just don't make a Ka-52.) I think that is the MAJOR change most sim pilots want. i.e Ka-50sh or Ka-50N. Give us what would have been if the Ka-50 had been produced instead of the Ka-52. Basically, a single seat Ka-52. And for anyone who wonders why DCS would implement this, it's because they want MONEY and are a BUSINESS! (who wants to survive).
  3. To me, the Ka-50 is very near imaginary. It was an experimental helicopter that led to the development of the Ka-52. I would much rather have a Ka-52, built with what knowledge we have about it, and the rest guessed at, than a total fantasy Ka-50. But, DCS doesn't seem to want to go there.
  4. Fantasy. Test. Experimental. => Ka-50. At this point, I don't care so much. Until we get something that was actually fielded in good numbers, this is what we have. We need a helicopter that can fly and fight at night and carry at least igla's for air defense. Preferably on the Russian side, since all the new "modern" fighters are American, and see helicopters as defenseless turkeys.
  5. Well, Marianas, to us FPS players, IS a large map. What we've been striving for. It's a good step forward for DCS. With thinking like this, I'm sure greater ground detail and simulation level vehicles will come soon enough. In the end, you can have huge "world" maps geared towards fighter jets, high altitude air combat, and smaller, more detailed, "fps" maps for everything else. Personally, I don't find combined arms worth buying. WAYYYY too simple.
  6. Yes, a DETAILED AREA. This is what you need for FPS, vehicle, and helicopter / ground attack aircraft. You have a perfect FPS map here. What many FPS players having been dreaming of for the last few decades. A REALISTIC FPS with REALISTIC vehicles, weapons, and aircraft on a LARGE map. Hope you make it reality one day.
  7. Come Low, bitches! If ya dare... ;)
  8. Mariana Islands. Cool! Now you can make FPS and vehicles simulation so you can compete with that "other sim". ;p
  9. Look through the Black Shark threads on the board here and in the Russian forums. There's plenty of cockpit pictures from different versions of the Shark.
  10. Monsters. I hope Boeing is sued into Oblivion.
  11. Also, it's not a "beam". That's the difference between the Kh-25 following laser reflection and the Vhiker, which is a "laser rider". It's why you have two different laser modes. For Vhiker, it's a cone of lasers, marking out a grid on the target. You have to shoot the Vhiker into that cone. Otherwise, it will just fly off wild and unguided. Line up the two circles to get a firing solution into the cone, then keep your chopper steady so the cone doesn't move too much, especially towards the end when it starts to narrow, guiding the missile into the target.
  12. I very much want to see them start selling tank and vehicle modules ( i.e. Steel Beasts ) because then we will all be in One World. They should be as realistically simulated as the planes being sold. I would also like to see FPS / Infantry realistically modeled. But let them get through with F-16 and such first. I'm sure that is taking up all their time for now. Unless some third party wants to get involved. In this case, we're building Sky Down.
  13. Or we get a proper FLIR. :smilewink:
  14. You should ask this in the Russian forums. That's where the developers hang out. They can answer your question with full authority. Just use some translation site like google translate or Yandex to ask your question in both English and Russian. You can then translate any answers in Russian with same. I've had a lot of hard questions about the Ka-50 answered there.
  15. Lol, leave it to the Russians to jam a Ham Radio into a Heli. :p
  16. Yeah, supposedly, without the AP channels on, you can get nose oscillation and various other weird vibrations. Oscillating means moving in a circle. Hold your elbow in position at one point in space, then move your whole hand in a small circle. That's oscillating. So, the middle of the helicopter would probably be the fixed point in space, while the nose would be going in a small circle ( and thus the back rudder would be too, in the opposite direction ). Probably caused by the torque from the rotors. I remember someone was complaining about it in the UH-1 module, that it got excessive nose oscillation. I don't own that module, so I couldn't say. Never have really experienced it myself, in the Shark, but I always keep the AP channels on and use Flight Director. I'll have to try turning them all off one day, and see what happens. If you really want some good tech info on the Shark though, you should post in the Russian forums. That's where all the developers and Shark connoisseurs hang out. They can tell you a lot more than I ever could.
  17. Yeah, agreed. It's like the Kh-25ML's. You would be kind of desperate to mount those. A fighter jet would be a much more appropriate carrier for them. It's like I want to be able to carry igla's. USUALLY, you wouldn't send a chopper into a battlefield filled with jets. But modern battlefields seem to have thrown the old rule book out, and now you just don't know what you are going to encounter. Hence, the "extra" armaments.
  18. I agree that all this talk of "engines have problems with exhaust gas" doesn't make much sense, when I can launch VAST volleys of S-8 rockets without a hickup from the engines. They are on the inboard pylon, closest to the engines, so it doesn't make logical sense that a single R-73 launched from the outboard pylon would cause so much trouble. I would think that it would have a LOT less gas coming from it, then a whole volley of S-8 rockets. EDIT: Meh, I don't know. After watching the above video, that DOES look like a lot of gas coming off of that R-73.
  19. Lol, the Russian Forums are your friend! As I have found out many times.
  20. Actually it's not "rudder trim", it's trim. Rudder trim is a fantasy aspect put in by ED, and yeah, not on the real heli. I'd keep it off. Trim is a 20% pull on your force feedback joystick ( i.e. it changes the center to where ever it was when you released the trim button ). It is controlled by the coaxial blades. Now, the FCC can control it up to 20% of it's movement range. (So, as someone above said, if your in a strong wind, and want to hold your position, you can hold down the trim button, lean into the wind till you are holding your position, then let go of the trim button. Your stick will re-center to that position (even if it's like hard left or right). The Flight Control Computer will now move the stick up to 20% of available movement from that position in order to hold your position against the wind.) You get used to it. And if you want to turn it off quickly, you can hit the Flight Director button. Then hit it again later to turn the AP channels back on. I don't advise turning off all the AP channels manually, as that turns off dampening controls, like the one that keeps your nose from oscillating. The one thing I have never tried, what if your stick is at maximum movement range, and you let go of the trimmer? While it may re-center, I don't think the autopilot will be able to go even 1% beyond that maximum movement range. So, in the heaviest winds, autopilot may not be able to hold position.
  21. If I remember right, if you go into options, there are check boxes for how much the F10 map will show. You can make it where it shows only what your sides intelligence has picked up. And yeah, the 20% control is WAY too little, most of the time. Especially when it comes to strong wind. It's really only meant for calm, summer days.
  22. It's been given as an excuse for why the Ka-50 can't have nice things throughout the years. Yet it can launch massive rocket salvo's without any problems. Somehow, I don't believe that smoke is going to affect the engines much. Therefore, we should be able to carry just about anything the Ka-50 can lift and get instruments for.
  23. Yes, their new animation systems should help a lot for soldiers on the battlefield. Would be nice to see APC's do what they're meant to, and unload soldiers, some with stinger and igla, to defend the tanks. Right now, the tanks are just sitting ducks. Nothing besides SPAA ever protects them, and you rarely see that.
  24. Lol, now you know why we BS pilots want Igla's. It's hard enough just to get the thing to turn and maneuver. As for Auto hover, Turn on Auto hover. Altitude hold will also turn on. Slow down to very slow and get to about where you want to hover. HOLD DOWN the trimmer button, and wrestle the copter into as good as a hover as you can, over the spot where you want to hover. Release the trimmer button. Auto hover should kick in with 20% control of the cyclic stick. If you want to change your altitude in hover, move the collective to get to the height you want, then hit F on your keyboard (collective brake). This should set the new altitude in auto-hover. Remember, this is a heli. It's kind of like grabbing a tornado and trying to control it. So don't expect it to do exactly what you want with a touch of your finger. You get used to it! :smilewink: Yes, and Yes. Strong winds can very much affect the helicopter. You need to trim. Hold down the trimmer, and maneuver until the heli is doing what you want ( direction, etc. ). Release the trimmer. Now the heli knows what you want to do, and the flight control computer will try to keep it going that direction. If you ever want to turn off the flight control computer for fast maneuvering, etc. without having to fight it, you can turn on Flight Director mode. This releases the 20% control by the FCC, and only vibration dampening is kept on. Lol, your eyes! One good way to tell if it's enemy or not is, is it shooting at you? You just need to learn the various tanks, APC's, etc, and their silhouettes. Also, zooming in your Shkval as far as it will go (21x?, I think?) helps a lot as well. Not sure about your contrast problems, I never fiddle with the contrast. You should just realize the shkval is nothing that great (and probably realistically modeled). When your in combat on the battlefield at low level, things get fast and tight. Without VR, situational awareness is very hard while trying to maneuver. Spin your head around with your mouse, and look out the windows as much as you can, to keep knowledge of the battleground. Of course, that's VERY hard while trying to fly at the same time. Triple monitors and head tracking help. (Wish I had them!) Watch out for other attack heli's. The Cobra's will usually launch TOW-2 at you, and they are hard to dodge. At close range, they will gun you down with extreme precision. It is also very hard to lock heli's with the shkval unless they are very close to you. Fighters are near IMPOSSIBLE to lock, because of their speed. And vhikers usually don't do well against them for the same reason.
  25. There's actually a few really good posts on this on the Russian forums.
