GOD! I KNOW, RIGHT?!! MY EYES! I think most of us here are approaching the older end of the spectrum. ;)
-
Which is why the RW's need to carry Air to Air missiles that are capable of tracking a Fighter. Because DCS is a Free for All.
-
Interesting. That's probably the clearest answer we've had yet on how the AP works. Thanks!
-
Ok, this is what I thought. When you turn off all the 4 AP channels, you COMPLETELY turn off the autopilot, and thus the SAS. The only thing left is the FFB trim. Right? This explains why there is an FD button, which doesn't shut off the SAS. Unless there's some master AP on / off switch I don't know about.
-
Ahh, so pressing FD turns off all the AP channels, but still keeps the FFB joystick where you last trimmed it. And I can see hitting FD would cause a jump, as the AP channels would no longer fight to keep the helicopter in the AP's designated positioning.
-
Hmm, but I wonder if it causes a jump for them, just like in the sim.
-
"A" I'm not interested in, but D would be a nice adversary for the Ka-50.

And, if you hold down the trigger too long, the heli will launch 2 missiles, within like half a second of each other. So, it doesn't seem to matter much as long as the target was lined up with the missile cue circle. I don't think I've ever seen the second missile fail when I did it this way.
-
Ahh, so that's why it jumps when you just click the trimmer. Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
-
Well, if you want a perfect lock ( i.e line up the vikhr to be fired perfectly into the laser cone ) you need to maneuver to put the two circles on your hud together. One within the other. Then fire. You can't always do this while maintaining hover. In this video, you can see the pilot lining up the two circles. Small circle is the target marker. Large circle is the Vikhr firing cue. Put the vikhr firing cue over the small circle and then fire. This gives you the best chance of capturing the Vikhr in the laser cone.

Hmm, something to debate. I've looked through the manual trying to find info on this, but there is nothing about what happens when you turn the AP channels off.
-
Also check outside wind speeds. I remember one guy complaining about this, and we found out he was flying in a literal hurricane. Vikhers were blown away the minute they launched. But yeah, I agree with Grodlund, sounds like your laser is toast.
-
Oh, ok. Yeah, if all your AP channels are off, then your AP is essentially off, so clicking the trimmer isn't going to do anything. There are no AP channels for the trimmer to act on. Without the AP channels, there is no 20% control by the helicopter on the cyclic and collective ( I assume it's on the collective as well because of altitude AP channel ). I wish I could find that long explanation someone gave on why there is a jump when you click, but it's essentially the hydraulic controls changing position, or something like that. I guess when you are holding the trimmer down, they are changing as you have the button down, and then click in place when you let up.

Lol, actually that's a bug. They're actually all OFF. The bug reversed the lights, so now if the light is on, on the AP channel, it's actually off. Someone said they fixed this, but it isn't fixed on my side yet. So, if all your AP channel buttons are lighted, they are actually all off. If they're not lighted, they're on. At least until the bug is fixed. That's why your not getting any jump when they're "on".

Yeah, I know GTharos said something about A.I. ignoring you at low speed, but he also said it should be removed ( since obvious cheat :p). So, maybe they have. They come after me when I'm barely moving a few feet above the ground. I've been shot at by F-18 while in a hover, trying to aim a vikher at it. Also, for anyone having trouble with hover, experimenting, I've found it kind of nice to just keep auto hover on all the time. That is, if your just prowling around slowly doing recon. I'm starting to use it just like a regular AP channel at times.

In case anyone is interested, the conversation on the Ka-50 seems to be a lot more lively on the Russian forums. It's kind of dead here, right now. Some really great information there. https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=74 Use something like Google Translate or Yandex Translate to translate them to English. Just put in the whole https:// address to translate the whole page.

Yeah, it's the way the trimmer works. Someone explained in detail why the slight jump happened, long ago, but I can't remember where. Hold the trimmer button down, get the copter to where you want (stable), then let the trimmer button go. Let your stick go back to center. Now you get no jump.

You're rotating blades look like a bonfire to a fighter's doppler radar. You basically can't hide from anything with doppler. The fighters are the worst enemy of the helicopter. They can look down and see you anywhere with their radar. And if you're going against A.I., you can forget hiding. They always seem to know where you are, radar or not. Even keeping cover from other helicopters and A-10, they always seem to know where I am. Just watch the tanks and other vehicles in outside view. Wherever you are, you can see their guns keeping track on you. Only thing I have found that works against non-aircraft is to keep trees and buildings between them and me. That means flying NOE, about 5 feet above the ground. Use pop-up attacks with vikher and rockets. Nothing seems to work against aircraft. You just have to kill them before they can kill you. And the shkval has a VERY hard time locking up aircraft, especially fighters. This is why we need Igla V systems.

Personally, for now, I just turn on labels. I can't see crap in this game. I have an 1080p 23" monitor.
-
No prob. Your snapviews.lua probably got corrupted somehow.
-
You probably have it where it where the camera stays forced on straight ahead. I don't know what key it is, but I have this problem with a switch on my joystick. If the switch is on, the camera will not move from view straight ahead. I'll try to find out what the key the switch is equated to. EDIT: It looks like the key is "Center View" which is num5 on the keyboard. It's probably on and locking your view.

Lol, actually, it's a LOT more dangerous! But fun! This is what those 80mm rockets are for. Those tanks with their .50's can TEAR YOU UP! Try doing the "The Rambo" in Battle.miz.
-
And I think it was GTharos that said some time ago that "doppler doesn't see you at 70 knots" should be taken out, as it's really a cheat. So, maybe they did. Anyway, supposedly your heli stands out like a bonfire to dopper radar, IRL. So, there's no hiding from it, unless your behind cover. This is why I tell people don't ever go high if there's any kind of radar around. Keep behind the trees and buildings, and do popup attacks. Of course, against fighters, even that doesn't help. I've been sniped by 30mm from an A-10 while flying down a road, just above the ground between buildings. The AI in this game can be god like.
-
Yeah, if your going to do fast, violent maneuvers, that's when you want to hit the FD button.

Anyone know where you can get the field manual for the Igla-V online?
