  1. Yeah, I get freezing occasionally as well. Not sure what the cause is. I'm wondering if it's low memory. I have 8gb on my motherboard. 4gb on my graphics card.
  2. Thanks for that info! I guess it's finally settled after all these years on how to use the trimmer button. In the early days, we were always told to just click it. Thinking about it, it makes sense now that it's because the autopilot is negating some of your pull (when you are flying with the AP on), so it's like there are two cyclics. The one you see, and the virtual one, which is where your cyclic really is, which is somewhat lesser in pull ( because the AP has negated part of the pull ). So when you just "click" the trimmer, the AP instantly resets to the position of the physical cyclic ( the non-virtual one), and you get a jump. On the other hand, when you push down and hold the trimmer, the AP lets go (so now there is no negation of your hands force on the stick, i.e. the AP isn't fighting to pull it back to where you were with negative force ), and you have only the real, physical cyclic steering the aircraft, so when you let off, the AP resets to exactly where the physical cyclic is, and there is no jump. Probably also why I am having problems flying with the AP on in hard maneuvers. I remember a long time ago, someone saying how errors in the AP compounded over time, and I'm betting hard maneuvering quickly builds them. I guess I should go to FD mode when I'm "running in" or dodging infra-red missiles / running for cover.
  3. I was looking to see if anyone else was having trouble with auto-hover. I am too. I get as close to a hover as I can, near perfect. Trim a couple of times. Hit auto-hover button. Still doesn't want to stay still. There is always some drift. Sometimes barely, others pretty bad. Altitude control always seems to be the worst. If I'm going down still, I try to nudge collective up a bit, thinking it's somehow still too much for the computer control. Doesn't work. I hit F for the collective brake. Looks like something tries to happen, but still doesn't work. Makes it impossible to fly in combat, because you can't try to keep flying with cyclic, collective and rudder, and at the same time, try to lock your target on a barely working shkval. EDIT: OK, after reading Weta43's posts on how to fly the Shark (by holding down the trim, maneuvering to where you want and then steadying the craft, and then releasing the trimmer ), auto-hover seems to work. You just have to make sure it's under 10 km / hr in speed when you press the auto-hover button. HSI will show a line under the circle, and a line to the side of the circle, in tangent with the circle ( each line crossing through only one point on the circle ). If you move the heli around, the AP will slowly bring the heli back to the point at where you originally set auto-hover ( HSI lines and circle will go back to being in tangent ). So, after many years of don't hold it down, do hold it down, and on and on and on :p, it seems the correct way now is to hold the trimmer down as you change position. It seems to work. Hopefully, it stays working. Now I just need a post on when to use Flight Director mode. Which I will make later because it's now 3 AM. :p
  4. This is the same problem I'm having with the Shark. Rudder seems to pull HARD when maneuvering and trimming often. Seems to build up energy until it becomes uncontrollable and seems to just "snap". Must be something in the new engine. As I'm trying to lock up an air target, the helicopter suddenly seems to just loose control and start spinning hard and wildly, no matter how much I push back against it with the rudder. EDIT: Well, I found out that we are supposed to hold down the trimmer while we are moving the cyclic, and then release it. Seems to work well in slow, easy flight. I'll test tomorrow how it does in fast maneuvering and trimming, and whether I still get the mysterious build up of torque energy. Might be better to do fast maneuvers in FD mode, where there is just damping.
  5. A-10s not going anywhere. It's a tough little bastard that can float over a battlefield dishing out death and destruction. Multi-role fighters are nice, but being so fast, it's hard to lock up targets, and then they can't stay for long because they use up so much fuel. For ground attack, I prefer heli's / attack jets. Fighters are for air superiority.
  6. Yeah, this has been a bug for what seems "forever". Still not fixed. Central mode is WORTHLESS. The AP also seems to quickly build up a huge amount of errors. If you maneuver a lot, the helicopter seems to get this weird "torque" energy stored up, that eventually makes it impossible to hold, and it starts spinning around hard. It takes a while to wrestle it back under control, then I let go of the stick and hit trim a couple of times to try and reset it. The Shark still has a lot of bugs. It needs a complete overhaul.
  7. Meh, the IR detectors aren't that great anyway. If your flying over a battlefield ( especially with Russian armor ), there's missiles flying everywhere and your MWS is just constantly going off. You don't know if they're firing at you or someone else. The way I do it, is have labels turned on so you can see the missile departing the craft, or as some guy said above, look for the burn and smoke trail. IR missiles are short range, so you can usually at least see a thin smoke trail. I think their motors usually burn for about 10 seconds.
  8. The A-10C is a GROUND attack aircraft. Yet it carries AIM-9's, pretty much standard. Gee, I wonder why. And yeah, when I engage Allied ground forces on a battlefield, I WOULD expect some of those to be around. You make it sound like there are rules in a knife fight.
  9. Hmm, the only way so far I have found to defeat an A-10 is to get him to shoot his AIM-9's at you and then try to get some trees between him and you. He will almost always get an AIM-9 off before you can lock him up. Even if you do manage too, he usually gets his AIM-9 off right after you shoot, and that thing is Fire and Forget. I've set the Flares for six at a time, and shooting off a couple of volleys seems to work somewhat decently. Then, when he's out of AIM-9's ( hopefully only two! ), you can TRY to lock him up at range. Unfortunately, even if there is just one A-10, and there are other heli's in the area, I've noticed the computer is pretty good at getting them all to engage you at once, from different sides. The thing that really screws with you though is the Flight System Computer. If you Trim a lot during manuevering, it screws up quick ( usually as your trying to lock the target. ) This appears to mostly happen with yaw. Heli just suddenly freaks out, and wants to spin wildly. It takes me precious seconds to bring it back under control, straighten it out, let my joystick go back to center, then trim a few times with it at center to clear it all out. This heli has some major problems. That and trim still doesn't seem to work well, even when you put a check in the Central Position Trimmer box. That should tell it you don't have an FFB joystick ( 99% of joysticks out there ). When I trim and let go, it always moves off a little, sometimes badly.
  10. Maybe this copter is accurately modeled, but I sure as hell would never fly this thing in a Modern Battlefield. Suicide. It is pretty much defenseless from air attacks as you cannot fly the bucking bronco, and target air threats at the same time. Sometimes it flies smoothly, other's it's trying to tear the cyclic out of your hand or break the rotors. I imagine this is why Russia gave up on it after 12 aircraft were made. If you are faced with ANY kind of air threat in this thing, you've got to have an infrared ( quick targeting ), fire and forget defensive missile. Even before you can even lock him, he's already fired AA missiles at you at max range. You can only lock attack jets at close range when they are coming straight at you. You cannot lock Fighter jets at all. After many, many, many hours of flying the Shark, I'm just about to give up on it. It's fun to fly at times, but in combat, about the only thing it can do is stand off at max range, and attack tanks and AAA. If you run in, it's almost as bad as air threats, as you have no armor, and it's HELL to try and lock a target while maneuvering. The only chance you have is rockets and guns with manual sights. Really disappointed in it. Another thing, when you enter the Battlefield, the enemy reacts like you are the MOST IMPORTANT TARGET on the battlefield. Similar targets seem to be almost ignored. I went back to flying the A-10 in a randomly generated mission, and 3 Su-27's instantly target me every time. THREE SU-27s! Even though there are F-16's and such closer to them. I must be ONE HELL of a THREAT!
  11. Lol, obviously, you've never been into the deep dark woods, or gone down the river.
  12. You can't adjust your attack "strategically" in this game, because there is no cover. Even Arma maps don't have much cover (was noticing the other day there really isn't much difference between them and DCS World). In order to do that, you need extremely detailed terrain like in crysis, where you can hide behind jutting rocks and deep canyons. Hopefully, one day.
  13. This is what you call the MODERN BATTLEFIELD. Everything now is ragged, unplanned "police engagements" where you don't know what you're being thrust into. You don't know WHAT the enemy has waiting for you. Everyone's just throwing in whatever they have, including the kitchen sink. You just don't know what is going to pop up at you. Going into modern engagements these days without being "loaded for bear" is just suicide. I don't walk into the woods these days with just a 20 gauge shotgun looking to shoot some grouse for dinner. There's an AKM with a 30 round magazine slung over my shoulder as well, with extra mags on my belt pouch.
  14. I won't be buying a black shark 3. I've already payed TWICE for the Shark. You want to sell another Shark, it better be the Ka-52. Otherwise, FIX THE SHARK.
  15. Yeah, but the ENEMY knows where you are at all times, too. So, it works out.
  16. Well, whatever it is, I want it to be as realistic as they can make it. But if it's this bad, then we can't count much on it, especially for Air to Air. You can't lock any kind of plane, and by the time you can get a lock on a heli, it's probably already too late, and your dead. That's why, seeing that this is essentially an experimental helicopter that eventually was turned into the much more advanced Ka-52, I wouldn't mind seeing at least two pylons added to it that can carry R-73's for AA defense. I mean, really, some Russian watched too much James Bond, and decided to make a more robust version of "Little Nellie". AND THAT THING HAD FIGHTER GRADE AIR TO AIR MISSILES!
  17. I still can't lock Apaches at noon during summer. Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, Lock, and finally it locks. At about 3km and I'm in it's range now. Cannot lock A-10's or fighter jets AT ALL. This leaves the Shark completely vulnerable to air threats. And it's hell trying to fly and work the shkval at the same time. I'd kill for a Shark that could carry R-73's on a 5th and 6th pylon. Ka-52 can carry igla's on it's 5th and 6th pylons, and I bet it can carry more than that. That would be GLORIOUS! Fly target into your boresight, wait for tone, uncage, revel in loud lock tone, fire!
  18. Well, I would be interested in making some fantasy planes. For instance, being able to add a 5th and 6th pylon to Shark, and then putting in a system to carry R-73's for defense against air threats ( since this is the worst threat on the battlefield ). I'd also like to be able to edit the maps, and install 3D objects like castles and such. OP is right about the community. Look what they do in other games that let them have access to Editors / SDKs. Crysis, Arma, Unreal Tournament, Quake. All have GREATLY benefited from such.
  19. I'd buy it. And I bet MANY other's would too. Hint Hint ED.
  20. Your lucky. Flying the shark, I get freezes that can last for about 10 seconds at times. I've read of other people complaining about the same thing though (bad fps and freezes), so I think ED is aware of this. It's probably due to the new engine, and it seems to be causing problems across the spectrum with both new and old modules.
  21. Your welcome. Shark and A-10 are both bugged bad. Waiting for MASSIVE updates on them.
  22. +1. We ALREADY PAYED FOR IT! TWICE!
  23. Hopefully, this version will actually be able to lock up air targets with the schval. This version is essentially useless. Going against other heli's, you can only lock them about 1 out 10 to 15 tries, if that. A-10s, fighters jets, etc are complete un-lockable. If you are in a mission that has attack planes or fighter jets in it, you are DEAD. There is no defense. Being essentially an experimental aircraft ( I think only 12 were ever made ), I don't see why we can't get some kind of infrared missile system on it. If we are going into raging modern battlefields with it, WE NEED IT! R-60 or R-73 on the wingtips! There is either no time to try and lock up a target with the shkval while flying, or even if you do have the time, the target will not lock. We need quick fire and forget, then run for cover. This is exactly why they gave the A-10 AIM-9's. We heli-pilots need this capability as well, if we are to enter a modern battlefield, even more so than an attack jet. Make that AA selection on the selector switch ACTIVE! I really can't see this helicopter surviving on any battlefield. Not in this age. Please ED. Even if you can't get data on a Shark that has the ability to carry these missiles, give us a version that does. Otherwise, the only thing this copter is good for is sight seeing. The minute any kind of enemy plane appears, and your in the open, Your Dead. And of course, on your maps, there pretty much is nothing BUT the Open.
  24. The Hog is a Hunter / Killer that can hang around a battlefield for what seems forever. Jets are in and out. The Hog can carry so much more ammunition and missiles.
  25. It's not just looks. It's a LOT of bugs, probably introduced by switching to the new engine. They need to do a complete bug sweep on it.
