  1. Very big thanks for this, just what i needed after finishing the official campaign. Fantastic job on the conversion to 1.5 and of course props to Mbot for showing the potential for dynamic campaigns. If only ED could pay him a wage and give him 12 months with access to the engine... ;)
  2. Bunyap Sims https://www.youtube.com/user/4023446 xxJohnxx https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgf5iXct_J8EQ_erBSsu6OA The standard go to channels for most of us really, might be some more bits and pieces around.
  3. Yeah this is definatly not isolated to the Mirage, have had it in the past during longer sessions. Not connected to mods either.
  4. Are all the current updated missions included ingame? I have run across a problem with mission 6, which has been reported previously, where the mission does not move on to the contact with the ground. The strange thing is i completed the mission fine a couple of months ago, except i failed it after not paying attention and going past my parking spot then got stuck on grass turning around :/ But the mission its self ran fine, after having some free time i have returned to tick off this mission but twice now have got the problem.
  5. I've started using a small trackball mouse next to my throttle, took a little getting used to left hand operation but works like a charm now.
  6. Yeah get the INS alignment going on ground power, then crack straight on with engine start. Aslong as you dont move the aircraft until alignment is complete, its all good.
  7. Ofcourse, double checking and setting up radio freqs/tacan/ils/countermeasures/lights, getting everything squared away. Double checking any details of the flight plan/ knee board notes for the sortie. I usually have everything i need sorted, so i get 2/3 minutes for the final alignment, just to sit back take a breath and relax a bit before rolling out.
  8. It might sound weird, but not having the manual to hand when being in the rift has actually improved my learning process. Without the ability to easily reference the docs, it forces you into having to have more of an understanding of whatever aspect you want to train on without being in the pit. Just takes a little more prep work out of the cockpit, wether it be flight manual or other sources. Occasionally i will pause and lift the rift, if its something complex that i just cant nail. I would agree seeing the information on the radar screen can be tricky, i find a do have to lean in a little if there is alot of new info. If for example i am keeping track of a targets heading/closing speed. Once i know the initial information, quick glances are enough to keep you up to date. But i agree it could be clearer.
  9. Not a problem. :) As others have mentioned, keep in mind the Viggen is really a strike aircraft, the limited A2A IR capability, is primarily for defense. The Mirage will offer the flexibility... but there is something special, about flying the Viggen as it was intended, extremely low and fast. I hope you enjoy whichever choice you make.
  10. I guess it depends on what version of DCS you are using, i get the feeling there might be more problems with 2.0 versions. Honestly i wouldnt like to comment on current bugs as i have not flown the Mirage since the Viggen release. I can say that the time i spent in the aircraft pre 1.5.6 (Viggen Update). There really wasnt any major bugs that inhibited flying sorties in the Mirage, was able to learn everything i needed to without any issues and flew the campaign with no problems outside of a couple of editor related bugs. But they are very good with mission/campaign updates which can be found on the forums before they are included with any DCS updates, if you dont want to wait for ED. I would advise having a little dig deeper into this, see what others say. As for 2.0 versions i cannot comment as i do not really fly on NTTR. It could be worth waiting for the next 1.5.6 update before purchasing either module, as i'm sure alot of the niggling bugs will be sorted (assuming more dont arise). The cockpit is in French, but honestly it didnt bother me. I'm sure there are English mods, but i couldnt confirm that. As for the French, its kind of takes a back seat as really your learning what the switches do and the layout, as you would other aircraft. Once you know that, it becomes second nature hitting the switches you need. Tooltips are in english as a backup and everything else is relatable to every other aircraft in terms of dials/readouts. So i really didnt have any issues. There is also alot of learning material out there for the Mirage, some very good youtube series going over most aspects. I'm sure you are already aware of these channels, but if not they are very good, along side the flight manual. Everything i have needed has been covered. youtube.com/user/4023446 youtube.com/channel/UCgf5iXct_J8EQ_erBSsu6OA Indeed the Mirage is capable of A2A refueling, it uses the probe-and-drogue method. Which is different and interesting to use, easier in some ways to the A10C, but also different challenges (getting used to the fly-by-wire during this can be tricky). But with training and with the advantages of VR depth perception, is satisfying to get it right. It can carry up to three drop tanks for long range sorties, the central drop tank is slightly smaller than the wing bags and is sufficient for most flights. Out of interest have you got the thread link for this major bug, in the Mirage forum? Would be interesting to take a look.
  11. The Mirage is the more advanced aircraft, as it is a generation ahead of the Viggen. Although your not going to get moving maps or gps, the INS system is pretty good and well implemented. Interacting with it is also very simple once you get the hang of it, certainly more comparable to the A10C but nowhere near as complex. As for Radar/Weapons its the same story, although the current Mirage module doesnt have A2G Radar implemented, it might be a possibilty in the future, but imagine it will take some time. From a personal point of view i have gotten alot of enjoyment from learning the Mirage, its probably the only aircraft currently which i have learnt to the same level as the A10C and it feels like home when i get back into the pit. Its a very capable fighter and can conduct A2G missions fairly compentently. From a VR perspective, i have found myself having to VR zoom a little more in the Viggen, but this maybe just because i'm not quite up to speed on it yet. In the Mirage i have flown alot and have never had a thought of being restricted in anyway operating it. HUD is nice and clear and all the "important" switches are easy to see and find in different light conditions. The dials can be compared to most other modules, sometimes it might take a second glance, but really isnt a problem. A little of the Viggen as i say i cannot comment to much on operation as i'm still learning, but the feel and look of it in VR is probably the best available at the moment. This isnt saying the Mirage is not quality, far from it, it looks very very good in VR. The Viggen is definatly a bit more workload as it is an older airframe, you have to think a little more about cockpit interaction and procedures for different phases of a sortie, aswell as being aware of INS drift. I dont want to go on anymore, i think its safe to say both modules are definatly worth a purchase. I do think the Mirage will be a good "bridge" airframe to learn, as you still have the HUD and more modern systems. You will have to use instruments a bit more than the A10C and the interaction with them can be good fun.
  12. Yeah you know what, nah.... Not paying for additional "assets" that should be part of a theatre. Especially when we wait for years on end for content that should take clear priority over a WW2 "expansion". Dedicated servers, scaling and visability issues, splash damage/more detailed vehicle damage, 2.5 merge and core engine work. These have to be the priority. I have been a supporter of eagle like most of you since the LOMAC days, but i have to say i'm really loosing not only patience, but any expectation i had that we will see the needed improvements to the core engine. I have almost consigned myself to the fact that when we do eventually see 2.5, it will still be lacking alot of the needed features. Why try to launch this WW2 thing, without having the underlying structure in place to allow it to flourish. You have the opportunity to draw alot WW2 enthusiasts over to the DCS platform. But do it properly, get the groundwork done first. As for additional asset packs, if its substantial enough to consider then maybe, but again unless underlying issues are sorted, why just plug more stuff in...
  13. You might want to check your windows bottom menu bar isnt in the way, as the resolution gets pushed below it. Just drag it to the left or right of your desktop, then you should be able to hit the ingame buttons fine.
  14. Even just a couple of blank pages, on the kneeboard, that could be typed on with keyboard inputs. You would have to isolate any control inputs if that kneeboard page was active.
  15. We will accept the challenge of your challenge. :P Hoping to get a chance this week, will report back. Cheers for posting it Pikey.
  16. Its a bit good isnt it... :P Cant wait to get my hands on this. Looks like workflow is going to be a challenge, really making sure everything is set the correct position and understanding the sequence of events before doing each step of a mission.
  17. It is looking like we're just going to have to accept that for now there isn't really anything we can do. On a side note, if anyone has any interesting M2000C coop missions available please let me know. Without this script, finding it so difficult to even get motivated to make any kind of missions.
  18. Is it not on auto switch by default once your up and running? I'm sure if the button is illuminated the auto switch is on, then once pressed for off, it should no longer be illuminated. Edit:- That seems like too many uses of illuminated. :) :)
  19. The initial kneeboard position is correct, but it then seems to change once your aircraft is up and running.
  20. Tried reverting back to .73 with the same results. Here is my mission if you would like to check it your end Pikey. Currently its got .74 in, but you can swap that out. Crash seems pretty consistant, around the 15/20 minute mark. TemplateReduced.miz
  21. Apologies for bumping this... Just wanted to check i've not missed the implementation of this. I have had a look through the update changelogs but cant see anything related to it. Just wanted to double check. I assume its not made it in yet?
  22. You can have a seperate shortcut for a non-vr launch. I use this often for editing. Just add the following onto the end of the Target line on the shortcut. --force_disable_VR The whole thing looks like this. "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe" --force_disable_VR I dont think there is a way to have different settings for each version, unless you keep a seperate backup of your options file for non-vr use in user/save games. Then swap them over before launching.
  23. Was just coming to look for/post about this problem. I get it every flight after a period of 45 to 60 minutes. Only fixable by restarting the game. It not only changes the cursor, but also throws the UI slightly off, forcing you to click a little right of the intended option.
  24. In theory, yes it can be damaged. Not sure if this is implemented... General rule of thumb, is it to make sure its off while your on the ground, unless the outside temps are very cold.

    Autopilot questions

Yeah that does make a lot of sense, i have found myself using it alot more now i can fly and fight with the airframe comfortably. I can concentrate on the general picture and any small details, planning ahead for freq changes, INS inputs etc. It really does become just a joy to fly. I appreciate it even more after doing 3 days of IFR approaches and landings with diff wind states/visibility in the Mirage, without the projected runway. I switched to the F-5E yesterday to do the same thing, the workload is insane. But i figure if i can crack it, then i should be able to cope with almost anything.... Maybe :)
