  1. The ultimate compliment.
  2. Yikes, that's frustrating! Nice flyin!
  3. Can we get a progress report on the "Skanky Hack"? (see attached) :)
  4. I had a mig-21 locked within 3 miles, chasing him around the deck last night, radar did not identify. But maybe you're right... Mirage, Harrier, and J-11 definitely not getting identified.
  5. Everything new is "unknown" when you lock in TWS or STT. The Harrier, Mirage, J-11, Mig-21, F-5, basically any module that's been released in the last 2 years is not identified by the F-15 radar. This needs a pass by the dev team. It shouldn't be too difficult to fix.
  6. This is a very 1 dimensional analysis. If Heatblur needs cash flow, then pre-order would come sooner rather than later. There are market forces to which we are not privy at work, making speculation rather pointless. It's ready when it's ready is the only answer.
  7. Well said.
  8. Balls of steel, those hog drivers. Scary stuff, man, I shudder just thinking about it.
  9. Starting the A-10 is so easy: Battery, Inverter, APU, Fuel pump, generator, engines... basically. It took me about an hour to get all that down pat. Seems like the F-18 is similar. The HOTAS for the A-10, holy crap, it's been a month and I still don't have it... learning what 20 buttons do is hard, but when all the buttons are different depending on your SOI / mode? Oh man... I'm hoping you're right about the F-18!
  10. :music_whistling: You. I like you.
  11. All this talk of the HARM, and I'm over here looking forward to the Shrike. :) I'm also the guy that doesn't care about the AMRAAM... i really like the AIM-7 and getting kicked in the junk... Thank you sir, may I have another! I play 100% multiplayer, and i can generally get within 10 miles of a SAM radar by beaming and hitting the deck when fired at... I know nothing about SEAD, but I figure a Shrike will do the trick. FWIW, my 2 cents is that the exact capabilities of the HARM are classified, and there's a pretty large energy difference between a search radar and hand held radio. I would be pretty surprised if it could home in on a hand held radio, given the amount of EM radiation flyin around out there today... but i could be wrong. I'd love to read the article from which that statement was derived.
  12. Great article. Thank you!
  13. Any proof of it being unspoofable is classified, so how can you say this with certainty? Or are you just believing the rhetoric? Also, the aim-9x has 90 degree off boresight, that's not 2x the R-73... I'm open to being wrong, but I'd like to read what you're reading...
  14. I disagree. It's a good missile, but a Mig-21 spoofed one fired off a superbug the other day IRL. In my book, and until it remains to be seen, in DCS it will be a bluefor-r-73 equivalent. Unless they change how flares spoof heaters in DCS, it'll basically operate the same way as an r-73.
  15. Launching AMRAAM's via data link is going to be pretty advantageous.... like firing an ET while staring at the Su-27 data link. And 70 degree off boresight aim-9x launches mean turn fights are going to be super dangerous against the F-18. personally, i don't care about the AMRAAM. I play multiplayer only and like servers that restrict to only Aim-7 (don't know why, but i love that missile). But I am really looking forward to the AIM-9X to counter the r-73.
  16. Without getting too crazy complicated.... The groan happens when the compressor blades near the stall condition. You'll notice that it occurs after fuel is introduced, as the compressor starts to spin up rapidly, the little airfoils are moving faster in relation to the flow of air, and this can lead to a stall. There are variable guide vanes that re-direct the flow of air to prevent compressor stall automatically. Early versions of turbo-jet engines did not have these and were much more prone to compressor stalls, especially when airflow as disturbed, or when really hammering the throttle. Anyway, what you're hearing is the disturbance of the airflow over compressor blades... while the engine is redirecting the flow of air to avoid a compressor stall as the compressor accellerates rapidly during startup. Check out AgentJayZ on youtube. He's a jet engine mechanic, works on a lot of J-79's, and has really great videos about every part of jet engines. https://www.youtube.com/user/AgentJayZ
  17. LEX Vapor Saw this image from this video and hadn't seen the LEX vapor look quite like this before... cheers! video link:
  18. Tested it with an Su-27, and the RWR does not display the 29 signature, and when the 27 locks me, i hear the tone, but it does not display where it's coming from on the RWR display. I'll post a screenshot of it soon.
  19. Yep. I took 3 aim-9's in an F-15 last night... both engines on fire, left wing shot off, canopy gone, radar gone... flew home and landed... my pilot was actually dead and my ship was not registering on the f-10 map anymore... but i was still flying...
  20. Making it look easy: ( ) ${1} edit: not sure why the vid doesn't display, but the link is to an f-18F pilot makin' it look simple
  21. I don't think it's latency related. I'm noticing this on Drex's server and I have a ping < 30ms.
  22. I'm not being goldilox here... it's really bad. I actually prefer my paper-mache F-15. I hope people don't think I'm just bashing on it. I really noticed a humongous survivability increase since last week's patch affecting the F-15. <shrug> I recognize people bitch and moan about spamraam's, FC3 OP, blah blah... i don't care about all of that. I think FC3 is just fine, people just don't like dying... it doesn't matter what it is, they're going to complain about it and find an excuse to be bitching. That's really not what I'm doing here. I went 19-1, landed ON FIRE 3x, and repaired, took a total of 9 missile shots to my F-15 in that 19-1 run. ( i will post screenshot when i get home) That's a MAAAASIve difference compared to the old made out of elmer's glue and prayers version of the F-15 damage model. And it's having a big impact on multiplayer engagements (negatively).
  23. Noticed this on 2/12/18 After last week's patch, the F-15 is a flying tank. It was taking 3 - 5 direct hits from iglas, Matra's, and 530D's to bring me down last night and Monday night. I post this here, because I noticed this in multiplayer, which is all I play. While this is a nice departure from sneezing and losing hydraulics from years past, this imbalances the crap out of multiplayer experiences, especially in 1v1 engagements on SARH only servers. This may belong in another thread, but again, I only play multiplayer :pilotfly:
  24. The sound has to do with the speed of inlet air being faster than the first stage of the compressor... kind of the opposite of a compressor stall, but a similar sound, because the compressor blades are not actually compressing (fully) in both cases. Basically, the sound you hear is turbulence over compressor blades. Wiki VGV (variable guide vanes) or take a look at "AgentJayZ" on youtube. He has some amazing videos that explain how they work (specifically on compressor stall). TL;DR - Happens when the throttle is reduced dramatically at high speeds.
  25. I only have this issue joining the 104th Server. It takes maybe 1/10 the time to get into the dynamic caucasus server.
