  1. yep, was getting fried by my friend last night. RWR was lit up and moved as he moved behind me while taxiing.
  2. I had the same feeling, but know very little about the actual conditions required for LEX vapor.
  3. Agreed! The sound is amazing all around. You can hear the fricken battery and electronics come on when you hit the switch, which you can also hear. It's as much a feast for the ears as it is for the eyes.
  4. First impression: Wow! Fly's great, really wants to come off the ground. Has quite a bit of "nuance" in landing configuration. Can't wait to get some hours behind the stick. The sound is outstanding. I'm so glad the wait is over. Well done ED!!!
  5. 100% I'd rather have improvements to multiplayer, like dedicated server, which ED announced far earlier than FC4... maybe they should finish that before releasing new FC4 aircraft. Multiplayer support will drive people to buy FC3 and full fidelity modules.
  6. Not F-18's... but close enough :)
  7. I'd expect the glide slope and time in groove to be very similar, given the tomcat's approach speed of ~125 kts (google), but on speed AoA different because of airframe.
  8. It can be a huge challenge, for sure. The enemy CAP is definitely trying to kill you, and is usually damned good at it. If you're trying to fly CAS or SEAD missions, you gotta have competent CAP, or it's going to be a long night... Teamwork is so important on this server. Everyone matters. SEAD/CAS can't do jack without CAP (unless you're Lt.Hicks, he's his own CAS-CAP), CAP needs sling loaders for EWR (especially on red for SU-27 datalink), CAS needs sling loaders to put units on bases, everyone needs everyone else. It's by far, the most fun server to play on, but it can be a real challenge. Well done Drex! Thank you for all your hard work, now shutup and take my money! I can't wait to see what awesome ideas you have coming for the points / resources system.
  9. you dont have to download anything, you can access discord from a webpage. Having a single place for comms really keeps the community together. I love SRS, but it does tend to divide things up, as many can't get it working, for whatever reason.
  10. I know everyone is thinking Aim-9x in terms of JHMCS functionality, but I'm wondering about how the new helmet will end up working with the older Aim-9M. The aim-9m seeker can already lock vertically very far off boresight using vertical scan, so i was just wondering if a similar function will apply to the JHMCS. My question is: Can you STT lock an air target by looking at it and pressing lock? If so, can you slew the Aim-9M to that lock, and effectively fire the aim-9 70 degrees off boresight? (given that the lateral gimbal limit of the AN/APG-73 is 70 degrees).
  11. ouch! I can't even imagine! definitely not a good way to stay in shape...
  12. This is incorrect. The air must be subsonic in relation to the face of the compressor. The same thing happens to compressors that happened to late generation ww2 fighters' elevators as they approached transonic speeds. Air becomes compressible, therefore the control surface stalls. This means that a compressor will stall if it meets supersonic airflows. The effect of slowing the air down is a pressure increase behind the shockwave.
  13. OP: "It's finally here..." ME: Frantically checks for updates and finds nothing... <Anakin_I_hate_you.gif>
  14. It's about compressiblilty of air at supersonic speeds. The air needs to be "slowed down" to subsonic speeds prior to contact with the engine compressor blades. The shockwaves that come off the intake geometry accomplish this, but those shockwaves can vary based on mach number, and for some intake designs, varibale geometry is required at higher mach numbers to "slow the air down" appropriately. The F-14 and F-15 both do this, but the F-18 does not. Therefore, it's limited to Mach 1.8. There's a great video about shockwaves slowing air and compressing it for the engine... this is how the SR-71 basically works. Something like 70% of the compression of the air for combustion is a result form the shockwaves, not the actual compressor section (if my memory serves me right).
  15. "That's right... Ice... Man... I am dangerous"
  16. Awww yeah, chaos in the skies. I remember when the IFF didn't work when the EA mirage was released... so many TK's :)
  17. Some might find it annoying, but I love seeing these threads. The anticipation for the F-18 is so high, i love it!! Can't wait!
  18. Yup, explicitly stated by Wags in a video.
  19. FYI, Page 319 of NATOPS manual lists startup procedures. https://info.publicintelligence.net/F18-ABCD-000.pdf I've read that far, twice now. I can't do it anymore until the module is released. :) I also found the JHMD alignment procedures interesting. It doesn't exactly have a diagram for what is displayed under normal operation, but it definitely lists what is not displayed (basically hud ladder and other potentially disorienting information). Man that's gonna be cool!
  20. Epic crescendo! Very well done indeed!
  21. Nobody else sees this? Extreme visibility used to show all smoke and contrails appropriately, now they pop in, as do farp pads depending on zoom level. I know preload radius is not "supposed" to affect it, but could that be the case? (will test when i get home) I ask, because i have only recently noticed this object popping into view thing, but i also drastically lowered my preload radius for 2.5 because of the crazy load times. Now with 2.5.1, i'll try increasing the preload radius an seeing if there' s difference.
  22. That's kind like saying you could reverse engineer a Toyota after it's been mangled by impacting a brick wall at 100mph... there's not going to be much left of the TALD after impact. I don't think this is a big concern.
  23. Good Catch. Also, the 120B not included on the LAU-115. Time is exactly 4:54 and 5 min in to the video.
  24. Visibility set to extreme, depending on distance, smoke trails pop into view depending on how much I zoom in. Feels like about 5 - 10 miles, but I'll have to do some testing. If I zoom out just enough they disappear, then turn my head to the side, they appear in the peripheral view, but disappear again when i look directly at them. I've also heard of VR pilots complaining of similar things. I'm just using 1080p monitor and TrackIr5 GTX 970, i5, 16 gigs, 1080p, system.
  25. Agreed. Having a few target numbers in your head is a good way to start, especially since we don't have our butts in seats to feel the plane. Of course it matters your weight, altitude, etc... but you gotta have a baseline to start learning. I've never flown the f-5, but I'm getting it tonight, and I'm going to use full fuel, 2 Aim-9, and 380 Kts as my baseline and understand that I'm under powered compared to mig-21, and just feel it out from there, knowing my gut instinct is to yank back on the stick and bleed all my energy :)
