  1. sure..offboard sound processing is almost always going to lower the CPU overhead of sound processing, as long as the program supports using it (I think Open AI, and direct-sound are examples?) Usually (but not always) an on board sound card will use system resources to pre / post process sounds instead. In modern machines, the impact is probably fairly negligible though , so I wouldn't be too sad about it, just use your onboard sound
  2. The CDU will display "INS NAV READY" after about 2.5 minutes, but it's not really....you must wait until the message Flashes on the CDU before it is really ready (and the timer, as above is T=4.0 0.8)
  3. I believe LST stands for Laser Search and Track , and it picks up reflected laser light, not IR, so no... However, at night, IR marking can be seen with NVG's whereas laser emissions cannot.
  4. good question, it'll be whatever altitude is correct according to the altimiter depending on the altimeter pressure setting :) ..so MSL assuming you use QNH (is this correct usage anyone?) DTS is what you are referring to there, which I believe is a ground elevation map, which is why setting DTS mode is a good idea if you are bombing (although if you set Marks, they'll be at DTS ground level anyway)
  5. yes, it will draw the bomb elevation cue based on the current SPI. So in your example, the bomb cue is at the Steerpoint (and , by the way is also a function of the steerpoints stored elevation!...if it's at altitude you should either set a mark and use that, or change the steerpoint elevation mode to DTS). In order to tell it to use the TGP instead, you would need to set TGP and SPI (TMS-long-fwd I think with TGP as SOI)...take a laser range as well if using TGP as SPI for bomb cue's, and also make sure to aim at the ground UNDER the target if possible, else the slant angle deviation can steer a precision bomb incorrectly)
  6. I agree, it just doesn't seem right to start on the runway. Starting the Hog up is half the fun! Absolutely! ... I was talking to the guy that couldn't be bothered to wait 4 mins, not to all in general ! :).. oh wait, it was you!! ....
  7. As I understand it, the time taken is not an electronic one (say for eg a GPS signal lock), but infact a physical one, where the inertial navigation unit gimbals have to accelerate up to HUGE rpm's in order to be sensitive and accurate enough to do their function. It takes *edit* 4 (tks Sobek) *edit* minutes of being stationary to speed them up. ...you can also, if you are impatient, do an "air" alignment , which means you could taxi and take off, then align in the air...in theory this could make the INU less accurate, and it may take longer than a ground alignment.
  8. please, for the love of god, change all missions to "start on runway" :)
  9. its definitely planned to be fixed, and I've seen the fix in action, but have no idea what patch it'll be introduced in....possibly 1108 ? (this is to increase the accuracy of qfe to2.2)
  10. dont forget the TDC ... set HUD as SOI , slew the TDC onto target (fast slew speed good for visual targets) , set HUD as SPI , slave TGP to SPI. pretty quick...
  11. Your mileage may vary, but I have had no decrease in frame rate due to the cockpit shadows.
  12. maybe the Heavy should get a Gau-8

  14. Anywhere on the air base
  15. I believe the missions were originally built during the beta, and the AI taxiing code has changed since then. I've since played the Campaign in a later build and it all works fine, so I expect next patch the updated campaign missions could be included
  16. have a look here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70277 Essentially the weapons impact calulations are based on the set altitude of the currently select mission point. DTS is pre stored elevation data (like map alevation data), and you can change the mission point (steerpoint or waypoint) to use it instead of the value set in the mission editor. Alternatively, you can adjust the steer point data in the mission planner before starting the mission. Probably even better to set your own Mark point though which will use laser ranging and slant range calcs to generate the impact projection. ..I think..
  17. Well, no worries I figured... To elaborate a bit.... the In cockpit self shadowing is a happy by-product of a greater change going into the engine, which will have knock on effects as a whole. ...+ the guys doing the modelling and shaders are unlikely to be compiling AI code now are they ? ;)
  18. The issue is being fixed as part of the patching effort. It may still be necessary for the developers and testers to rebuild the missions however as certain behind-the-scenes functionality is adjusted slightly.
  19. no worries..you can also send these targets to team mates in multiplayer, and auto slew your Shkval to the stored targets.
  20. ...they don't just work on one thing at a time :)
  21. you must use the Datalink system. - first , aim the shkval at the target, and make sure you have taken a laser ranging - next press one of the 3 marker buttons on the DL panel (at the top left of cockpit). You should see the symbol flashing on your Abris screen. - Press Send button to store this location ...repeat for as many targets as you like up to...I cant remember...6?
  22. The only way to do it is to play the mission and save the track.. You can then replay the mission and "take control" and continue on.. ...at least I think you can...in theory...I've never actually tried it!
  23. yes, random spawns / probability are fairly straight forward to do
  24. I think it is ok to focus on one weapons delivery process at a time as well... JUST learn to drive the mavs, or JUST learn to drive the LGB's, or JUST the JDAMS, or JUST the iron bombs....it's a hell of a lot to try and take on all of it at once......each system has a sub system, and each sub system has it's own special settings
