Flappie, your internet connection is far above average. I played DCS within the last years with a lot slower connection (up and down) than presently without any "timeout" issues.
-
This whole stuff is a total show stopper in DCS. I never found ANY particular reason for that, ALL advices found in the forums did not cure the disease. On some days it works on others it´s a total mess with those "connection timeouts". It got worse over the time and is not related to any changes on my side. I have a high end internet connection, no matter of clean and repair, no matter of mods or not, no matter of deleting stuff like fxo/metashaders/logs. It seems to be the same issue like Tj1376 posted.

Well......all said. The old style was more "convenient"....

Nothing triggers such a behaviour. Not arcade mode, not easier controls, not auto rudder trim - checked all of them.

Dear Fri13, I just watched your video about flying the Gazelle with collective/pedals and I REALLY wonder how you cold take off from ground with collective only and not using rudder as shown in your vid. On my system (using standard Warthog stick - no FFB - and Saitek rudder) it is definitely impossible to take off from ground without using right rudder. As soon as I get light on the skids the helo veers to the left (no wind in the mission) and I have to give quite a certain amount of right rudder to keep it straight. Which is a normal behaviour due to the direction the blades rotate. This momentum is reduced to zero once the helo accellerates to say above roughly 100km/h - once again normal because the fenestron and the airflow over the aircraft compensates this momentum. If airspeed drops again below 100km/h I definitely need right rudder agin to keep it straight. Two years ago I had a conversation with a EC135 pilot who confirmed this behaviour on his airframe (the EC135 has a fenestron as well). Coordinated turns also require rudder input in the sim (as well as IRL). I really do not know what is going on with your system. Unfortunately I can not show it to you with a video because I am unable to make one. Again: I am not saying the FM is perfect nor can I prove it to be perfect - I never flew a helicopter in real life (apart beeing a medic in the backseat of a Huey for 12 yrs)....BUT the behaviour of YOUR Gazelle in YOUR sim setup is not what I have on mine. Definitely no flying without rudder input and collective only possible on my side (and probably on many other simmers side here). This leads me to the conclusion that on your SIM something must be totally different (I avoid saying wrong) so that you are able to take off with collective only which leads to your statements that the Gazelle is totally off from real life behaviour. My reply is no offense in any way but I have a very, very different behaviour of the Gazelle on my system which replicates what I have seen on real life helicopters like the EC135 (beeing in the backseat as well occasionally).

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9
docWilly replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
yes and unfortunately it is also present with Hog2 and not cured yet. Happens once in a while, next restart it´s gone, then up again. People look for a solution - so far chimney smoke to 0 seems to be a temporary cure for that desease ;-) Same b****** as with the connection timeout in MP. Sometimes it´s there sometimes it´s fine and no one finds a definite reason nor solution. At least it´s not triggered by TAZ Better smoke. -
Interesting find as you can clearly see that lasing in this RL vid is while the target beeing far offset from F16`s direction (HDG) and still beeing lased (succesfully). Again the main reason not flying straight-in while buddy lasing is to avoid AA fire - thus loitering in a circle seems more appropriate to me. You keep an eye on the AO, avoid beeing sniped by AA, give way to the attacking aircraft etc.

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9

Would be helpful to see which MP server you played on and what were the settings of that server. Sometimes a mod causes the red flag in MP and after restarting DCS it´s gone until you close the session. Give it a try. Had the same "minor issue" with the modified raindrops. -
I am in no way an expert on A10C but had the same finding on a MP server. 2 F5´s asking for buddy lasing, so I circled around the AO (6 to 7NM from target location at 8k feet) and lased on given code. GBU 12´s never picked up the laser and went nuts. So if it´s impossible to lase in FOV of the TGP to the side while circling the AO....that it makes no sense to me. I am pretty sure that A10C´s do not fly straight in and out on the AO and do buddy lasing with the main reason to avoid AAA or manpads.

I remember long time ago a nicely done blade flapping sound (while the edges of the rotorblades going transsonic in a tight turn or descent for example). Unfortunately this effect seems to be gone long ago. Talking about OB actual version. Example (first at 00.42....several times in the video)

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9
docWilly replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Only the client who installed it will see the improved effects, no "transmission" over the server to others. Thus I hope it will be implemented into DCS core to make it usable for everyone. I just hear some calling..."uh those using the default and unrealistic smoke have an advantage to detect helos or moving vehicles". Again my 2cts: Taz´s work is a MUST -
Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9

Impressive indeed....anyone who´s not using it ingame is missing a vital part of immersion. Finally the battlefield looks like battlefield and helicopter flying is a blast (in Syria). Not highly.... no extremely recommended to everyone looking for "realism" in this game. And it´s not only for the low fliers... moving colums no appear as they should...you can spot them but not in the unrealistic way it was before. Thank you for your effort and time you put into this mod. Have a good day Taz ;.) -

Awsome mod again. Just curious about how long the smoke will last until it disappears...I will have to test it again. -
Do not try to unzip a ".miz"-file. Just drop it into C:\Users\ xxx \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Missions\... (as far as I remember - I am not at my gaming PC at the moment.)
-
As far as I understand it 50% means 50km preload "i.e. visibility range" which is quite far IRL as the air is congested almot every day with particles. I also turned down terrain textures to LOW with absolutely no impact on immersion (= I see no difference even flying low in a helo) but gain some frames.

@SMN Maybe I do not get your issue..... with kneeboardbuilder I can easily implement "default kneeboard" (i.e. what ED puts in there or for example the specific checklists of an aircraft or whatever a multiplayer server host provides for the session) TOGETHER with my "custom kneeboard" (here Shu´s Syria charts) displayed ingame on my kneeboard while sitting in the F18C for example. Shu´s stuff shows right after the default stuff... so no prob for me. I do not see Caucasus airfield charts while flying Syria.
-
Gents....as I am not a crack importing kneeboard additions I decided to use kneeboardbuilder for DCS (free). Right now after 10 min reading the manual while installing the neat little program I was able to import Shu´s pdf, create a custom kneeboard together with the aircraft specific one and ALL showed up ingame as intended. And it works as well with the other files (for VR users) Conclusion: nothing wrong with his charts....just use kneeboardbuilder and RTFM. LINK: http://www.dcskneeboardbuilder.com/ Cheers Willy

CombatWombat's Airfield Diagrams: Syrian Theatre
docWilly replied to shu77's topic in DCS: Syria Map
Thanks Shu for the awsome work and the time you invested in giving us this document. Highly appreciated!! -
My setup is pretty much all candies maxxed out, MSAA at 4x and AAF 16x. Constant FPS in Multiplayer servers between 37 and 50 BUT in dense airfield areas such as Incirlik some stutters every few seconds. Lowering preload radius to 70 (000) i.e. 70km did the trick for me - no stutters - and had no influence on my "immersive experience" over this extremely detailed and beautiful map. Did not try 50 as per now. Everyone experiencing stutters may try reducing the preload as well.
-
During loading screen ED tell me that "this mod is not authorized and will be disabled within "2d xxhrs xxxmins" - any idea how to cope with that?
-
@SHU77.....higly appreciated. Seems that israeli AFB´s charts are somewhat classified or my extended search did not bring any results so far.

Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
docWilly replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
Well sort of strange things happen once in a while....yesterday no makings, today markings present. Nothing - really nothing changed in between. So seems to be all fine. Thanks also from my side for this wonderful set of textures. Thumbs up!! -
Barthek's CAUCASUS REDONE 2022
docWilly replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
I tried several ground texture mods but all were installed and uninstalled using JSGME so technuically there should be no "left-overs". I am currently @ my rig and will test again and report back the results.
