  1. Many thanks for the report, but I am not sure which file this is? I did a search on the DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\Mi-8MTV2\ folder and found about 10 "default.lua" files in that folder tree. :helpsmilie:
  2. In some ways, the UH-1H has the least loadout options modelled (see previous posts in this thread). But it does have a hoist and it does have the ability to carry troops, so that makes it rather flexible. Personally, I find the UH-1H a bit "arcadey" for weapons. Those AI mini-gunners chew through anything on the ground. If you do want something more challenging, turn the AI-gunner-skill down in the Mission Editor. I found the UH-1H impossible when I first started. It was only the Gazelle that taught me how to fly a helicopter, after which I've gone back and learned all the DCS helicopters. The Gazelle remains my favourite. I know others hate it, but I find it is perfectly okay for what I want to do. But, given what you wrote, and knowing you're coming from a warbird background (I did too), then the UH-1H or Mi-8 is probably the way to go. I think the Mi-8 is slightly better, in terms of complexity of the cockpit, but the UH-1H is still very good. That said, knowing what I know now, to get started I'd recommend a) making sure you have a good frame rate (FPS > 30), b) remove any "curvature" in your roll/pitch axis controls and c) reduce the Y-saturation a bit (I use 75%). That, and watch some RL helicopter training videos. Wishing for "occasional" improvements, maybe. But "ongoing" improvements is probably a bit much to ask. Sooner or later, all modules get put on the developers' shelf, as they work on other projects. Sometimes they sit idle for years. And, at some point, the law of diminishing returns cuts in, and development fizzles out. That said, all current DCS helicopters have had an update/fix/patch/something at some point during this year. And, in the case of the Ka-50, there is a major overhaul currently underway. 3. Ooo... neat. Thanks everyone for the reponses.
  4. The DISCORD SERVER Okay. Nevermind then, but thanks for replying! (We are an active helicopter squad, but we are not on Discord.)
  5. I am looking for the key-binding for the three-way select switch, which is used to choose which gun system is used. I can find the nearby switches on that panel, but not this one. See attached image. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  6. If by "freewheeling", you mean "autorotation" (i.e. landing without engine power, using the auto-gyro effect of the rotor), then yes. I did it a few nights ago... rather harrowing, but I made it down in one piece!
  7. When you say "Here", do you mean this thread, or only your LLH discord server?
  8. The SA342L variant of the Gazelle in DCS carries a rocket pod with 8 rockets. These are high-explosive types. Did the real-life Gazelle ever carry other types of rockets? (I'm thinking smoke-marker rockets or illumination rockets?)
  9. Yes. Definitely appreciate the ongoing commitment to this fine module. Thanks AvioDevs!
  10. I love flying the SA342 Gazelle, but I also enjoy multiplayer. Unfortunately, many of the servers aren't really suitable for helicopters generally, let alone the Gazelle in particular. Yes, there are LOTS which have the Gazelle available, but the missions are not well thought out, so you are left with either nothing to do, or you get bombed on the FARP before you can even take off. Does anyone have any suggestions of good servers where I could fly the Gazelle? Thanks!
  11. The developers have already replied to you in this thread stating that it will be handled "as soon as possible" (ASAP). And, just to be clear, although "fixed internally", it will still take a while to get that version beta-tested, checked by the ED QA process, incorporated into the next Open Beta, added to the Steam version, and then released according to ED's release cycles. And the Stable Version will take a bit longer again. DCS is a very complex, multi-level system and things take time. "ASAP" does not mean "instantly"... although it is still ASAP. ;) I think it is pretty cool that Polychop got it sorted quickly... especially given they are busy with other projects and it is the summer holidays (do those guys ever take a break?). We just need to wait for it to work its way through the DCS system now. :)
  12. I have flown the C-101CC multicrew on the Cold War 1947-1991 server. I was mostly in the back and primarily acted as navigator/observer. We occasionally would switch control to give the front pilot a break. Good fun, but a little bit limited. What would help a lot would be a 3D-model NS430 GPS in the back seat. (Either that or ED fixes the overlay version!) That'd let the co-pilot plot and plan waypoints, etc. and thus add to the complexity of the navigation controls.
  13. With its variety of terrain, different seasons, and combined with different times and weather conditions, Caucasus remains fresh and interesting. I was flying last night over a patch that I knew well, but it still felt novel. Definitely the best map; none of the others even come close.
  14. There are several. This series by the Grim Reapers is pretty comprehensive.
  15. Huh? In addition to the "quick flight missions", the module comes with 10 training missions and a general-purpose standard mission. Plus there is an entire, full-blown professional campaign (with its own 40+ page manual) included with the module. Have you played through that? I have a lot of DCS modules and the SA342 is one of the better ones in terms of included single-player content.
  16. @Demongornot : Really appreciated that write-up. Lots of good advice.
  17. No, but in that thread Post #9 suggests "...Kola..." And then in Post #10, Wags replies: "... I have not seen a single person correctly guess it." So it seems that Kola at least is crossed off the list of potential locations, no?
  18. I note the way there is a "If you could have one WW2 fighter..." thread (LINK) and this "If you could have one WW2 attack plane..." thread. We already have fighters and ground attack planes. What would make for a richer difference to the DCS WW2 scene would be... a transport aircraft, a strategic heavy-bomber, an artillery spotter, a maritime patrol seaplane, a reconnaissance aircraft, a liaison aircraft, a dive bomber, etc., etc.
  19. Here's a labelled version, in case it helps. (click to enlarge image) Another thing I do is plan a waypoint with the F10 range tool which I know is 4km from the target area. That way I can plan ahead for good terrain/cover from where I can launch the attack.
  20. Kola peninsula had already been guessed at, and Sir Wags said no. Ref: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3890068#post3890068
  21. Sounds interesting. Do you have a reference for what the R2 is and how many numbers there were produced/used?
  22. I'm guessing by "ground attackers", you mean strafing ground targets with guns? In terms of bombs, the A-8 only carries an SC250... while the K-4 and D-9 can each carry an SC500. The D-9 also has R4M rockets. Or BR21 rockets. Or the option of 4 x SC50.
  23. The most recent reference I could find was this one: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3033688&postcount=39 Found using this: https://forums.eagle.ru/search.php
  24. Going a bit off topic here... :-\ ^ This If you are having trouble finding it, it is this one... Set it "DOP" (Doppler) and then when approaching the hover, you are aiming to get it lined up on centre. There is a good video explaining it here: Another thing that I found helped me, was reducing the Y-saturation on the cyclic axes. I have a "desktop" joystick, and the SA342 defaults are set-up assuming a full-length cyclic. Take a look at this video: (that one video changed my opinion of DCS helicopters from hate-and-loathing to joyful-admiration).
  25. So it seems. Thanks for that. It will be really good if everyone (esp. real-life Gazelle pilots, if any) could post what controllers they are using, their axis-tuning/curves, and what they think of that configuration in the context of the Gazelle. :joystick: Some of us have no idea what a real Gazelle should feel like to fly, but we would certainly prefer to get something a bit more true-to-life (or avoid something that is an "absolute mess") when it is time for the next controller upgrade. Or alternatively, we would like to tweak their axis-curves to make it a bit more authentic. Of course, I know that we'll never get to being real (short of being rich/lucky enough to get to experience a Gazelle in real life), but I am already really enjoying this module and anything to make it even better would be greatly appreciated. :pilotfly: PS: I am not a real-life pilot, but I find the Gazelle believable.
