Wouldn't this depend on the helicopter load? I mean, how much fuel, cargo, stores, etc.. I suspect it might also depend on the altitude above sea level and the ambient air temperature. In any case, there seem to be some other factors that might contribute to the unexpected flight behaviour that the original post reports. It would be difficult to disentangle the problem if any experiments are not done under more controlled (or at least specified) conditions.

Organisation of German units using the Bo-105 PAH1A1
xvii-Dietrich replied to xvii-Dietrich's topic in BO-105 PAH1A1
^ This sort of thing is why I love the DCS community. Thanks @QuiGon for the prompt, comprehensive and referenced replies. They were precisely the overview I was after and gave me the terms/links I needed to do some follow up. It is sincerely appreciated. -
Formation Flying and AAR is Impossible!
xvii-Dietrich replied to TheSledge's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
I totally agree with you. Witchcraft : Advanced witchcraft : Advanced dark witchcraft : Coven-elite supreme witchcraft : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4XF13eY2JY As much as it seems impossible, I am secretly longing for the day when we can at least try some of that advanced stuff in DCS. :joystick: -
I have been doing some background reading on the Bo-105. But one thing I've not found anything on is the organisation of Bo-105 squadrons. Is there are list anywhere of which units used them? How many did these units have? And how did they fit into the structure of the Heer (as far as I can tell, they are Heer only, and not Luftwaffe). Any references, links or book recommendations (auf Deutsch ist auch in Ordnung) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Grasshopper, Lysander and (my favourite) Storch would all be lovely. Normally, I'd say "no chance", but they did make the Christen Eagle II, right? Realistically, I think it will need a passionate 3rd Party Dev (like AvioDev) or someone who can go to ED and say... "Here's €.€€€.€€€, please make this aeroplane for me".

Given the upcoming "supercarrier" module, getting a helicopter to use with it seems like a good idea. I suggested some helicopter ideas for the supercarrier a while back (LINK), but it didn't get much response. Putting an SH60 on one seems like it would benefit not just the helicopter pilots, but improve the carrier ecosystem for the Hornet/Topcat pilots too.

!!! THE BIRDS are jealous !!! The BO-105 will taste the air of DCS
xvii-Dietrich replied to The_Fragger's topic in MilTech-5
Excellent news! There has been some steady progress in developments recently. From the outside, things seem to be moving, positively, and that is so encouraging. -
2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread

Absolutely!! A Ju-88 was top of my list back when we got asked what we felt was needed. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=205750 The new AI version looks great. But, now that the FW190-F8 project has gone silent (*sob*), I'm back longing for a German bomber. Maybe one day? Still, the new AI version looks great and I am really looking forward to "bombing off the wing" as we sometimes did back in the old days of a different sim. -
I've been experimenting with this, but the feature seems a bit inconsistent. For example, if I select "Hidden" on a air or ground unit, then it disappears. However, if I select "Hidden" on a static object (e.g. a building), then it has no effect for "Allies only" or "Fog of War". The only way to make buildings disappear is with the "My A/C only" or "Map only", but that removes everything. It seems you cannot hide the static objects on the map, but leave ground/air units visible. (I'd like this to de-clutter my training maps). Also, a related thread on the difference between "Hidden" and "Hidden on planner": https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=243448 Wow. I didn't know that option existed. Thanks for pointing it out. That's really useful!!

Understood. But WOW-OH-WOW... those screenshots look gorgeous.

Great. Thanks. That D4Y is looking a good choice then.

Definitely! Any seaplane would get my support. Any. Seaplane. PS: you could even use the PBY out of the UK too... for hunting U-boats. :-)

Good discussion. I looked up Hiromachi's list and learned a few interesting things. Thanks! Given the Marianas map and an Essex Class carrier... it strikes me that whatever attacked the USS Bunker Hill might be a good choice (REF). (But I couldn't find out details on which types were involved in that attack... does anyone know?) But, personally, an E13A (REF) would be my first choice, but any seaplane would do. I know it is extremely unlikely to happen, but I can dream, right?

When I got rudder pedals for the first time (~2014) I had exactly the same reaction... aircraft are the opposite of bicycles!! The logic is that the bicycle wheel is at the front, and the rudder is at the back... they are opposites. And, in the case of aircraft, it comes from the old days when the rudder pedals were physically connected to the rudder with cables. E.g. http://aviationmiscmanuals.tpub.com/TM-1-1500-204-23-1/img/TM-1-1500-204-23-1_141_0.jpg It took me a week or so to get the hang of it. If you have an aircraft with nose-wheel steering (e.g. the Hornet), just driving around the taxiways on the ground is a good way to practice it and build up some muscle memory.

Floatplanes, flying boats, or even helicopters with pontoons would absolutely be a dream come true. Seaplane operations were are significant part of many theatres of WW2. DCS ocean rendering is really nice these days and the lure of being able to land an Aichi E13A or PBY Catalina or Nakajima A6M2-N or OS2U Kingfisher or (... list goes on for about 6-7 pages...) on water would be totally irresistible.

I was doing some tests on the Normandy map, and I could take off a fully-loaded F/A-18C from nearly all air strips. Only the grass fields presented a problem. I would not expect the Channel Map to be too much different and would hope that many airfields would be usable.

Supercarrier and helicopters operations
xvii-Dietrich replied to nessuno0505's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I think Konovalov is right that, without a flyable-helicopter that would be directly applicable on the supercarrier, there is not going to be any specific helicopter integration (although we could still land/take-off, I guess?). And the SH/MH-60 is not even on the would-like-to-do-it list, let alone the development list. I asked about helicopters more generally on the supercarrier a while back and the thread got moved straight into the "Wishlist" sub-forum (ref). Consequentially, my enthusiasm for the SC has waned, but I'm happy to wait and see how it turns out. Great photos.. a few surprises there for me. But I'm curious to know about the upcoming Mi-24P and Bo-105. I searched to see if I could find any of those on a carrier, but didn't find anything. -
This, like many polls on this forum, is too simplistic. It is like any of the "Would you like a new feature? : YES/NO" polls. Question aside, the issue is what are you prepared to delay/cancel in order to get this new feature? Whether a Huey update is paid or not, it is coming at the "price" of re-prioritising other DCS development. I can think of lots of really nice things to add to the Huey (e.g. 3D models of any soldiers/medical/cargo being transported inside the helicopter). However, do I want that to come at the cost of a delay to, say, the Mi-24P? No thanks.

Operation Steinbock Intercepting V-1s. But need to wait for the V-1 in DCS WWII assets. Mosquito cross-channel raids pre-Normandy Training area for pilots before deploying to the continent Jabo hit-and-run raids against SE-England (e.g. Operation Giesla) And maybe, they are thinking ahead to releasing earlier-era aircraft (thus, DCS Battle-of-Britain)?

Thanks for the update, ED. The Channel Map was no surprise, that was leaked back in 2018 (ref). ;) Very happy to see the mention of searchlights! Also good to see that M45 AAA on its way. But, can you please add it to the Japan roster too? (I'm thinking ahead to a Marianas WW2 scenario, and being able to put some AAA - anything! - on the Japanese side would be appreciated!) I disagree. Maybe not massive-raids like what were happening over the Reich, but still action (involving the numbers of aircraft that we'd see in DCS anyway). For example... London was a target of Operation Steinbock (Jan-May 1944). Hit-and-run tactics continued thereafter, often with Jabos. The last raid was Operation Giesla (March 1945) with Axis/Allied aircraft losses of 22-v-24 on that occasion. Also over 2300 V-1 flying-bombs reached London, with the first being in June 1944. Over 1300 V-2 rockets were fired against London. Only April 1945 had things quietened down. -
Wow. Good find, draconus!! I know this is an old thread, but definitely relevant given then upcoming Marianas map. PS: You've definitely earned your "DCS Ground Crew" forum tag now. (Sorry, I couldn't resist that one ;))

That's an active volcano too... :D That'd surely make for some cool helicopter missions. Just need a few new effects in the mission editor... "Volcanic Plume", "Lava flow", etc. ;)

Yes, the A8 has 4x 20mm cannons (vs 2x on the D9). But from a ground attack perspective, I consider the D9 more versatile than the A8. The D9 has more/better bomb options and it can take rockets too. The extra speed helps. See also this thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=246250 . In the absence of any Rüstsätze kits to the A-8 (or the F-8 variant), I personally prefer the D-9. One other point regarding the A8 is that it is historically correct place/timewise for use on the July 1944 Normandy map, in case that matters to you.
