59th Ravens HARRIER EVENT ( The Jack Jackson Exercise)
microvax replied to =DECOY='s topic in Tournaments & Events
2 more questions came up during discussion with other pilots who signed up. Does 1 pass per target literally mean you get one run in and no further runs, if not all munitions have been expended, or is one allowed to basically drop singleton mk82 and do 2 approaches on WP3 ? Same for rockets, are multiple single burst passes allowed within stores limits or is it viggen style empty all stores in one go per target ? Also for the bomb deviation from target calculation, will be the last bomb position in the game world be taken for that or the closest passing point to the vehicle ? Because if you put retarded fuze on it does pass the target and moves away from the vehicle again. :) -
Unfortunately real life got in the way and I cant GCI tomorrow. :/ Godspeed everyone nontheless !

59th Ravens HARRIER EVENT ( The Jack Jackson Exercise)

I recommend to up the percentage on the ammo load for the mirage to 15%. Due to the double cannon setup ammo load gets rounded to the next lowest even load. So 14% is actually 34 rounds and 15% puts the mirage at 36 rounds equal to the gsh301 equipped planes. -
I think they just meant its an advanced EFM and didn't mean the AFM TM standard. Its bad though in terms of unclarity for sure.

59th Ravens HARRIER EVENT ( The Jack Jackson Exercise)

Just to make sure, that I do understand this correctly, we will take off or airstart, armed with bombs rockets and gun and then expend the stores in listed way right ? So we will do the strafing run with rockets and bombs still attached ? And the sooner we have the gun ammo amount the better ! :D -

Will the mission be public beforehand or will it basically be react to the situation as it arises ? :D -

=RvE=MicroVAX UTC +0100 Mirage 2000c 2 Questions though: Will the targets be AI units or typical range targets that "dont shoot back" ? And will gun ammunition be adjusted so that all planes have more or less either equalized firing time or actually rounds, since the ranking criteria for the gun run is amount of bullets on target and not minimum dispersion if I did understand correctly. -
Ye sure, like a topdown would be again more similar to a side aspect on a plane with a "normal" engine config. And that should be modelled if it can, my question still is, is it even possible in DCS. :D

Where is your proof. I do not see any. The kicker here is that the mixing of hot and cold air as it may be done by full flaps and downward nozzle position, does not influence the fact that the hot nozzle itself is the biggest target. Like IR radiation is the same as light. The little density turbulence created might indeed scatter it in a minimalisitc way, but not in any way shape or form enough to make up for you have a freakin multiple hundred degrees hot piece of metal on the side of your aircraft bit. :D The hot nozzles will emit at the typical spectrum for exhaust pipe metal, which makes it a way easier target for any heatseeker and a valid target for a rear aspect one. DCS does not model IR signature distributed across a 3d Object afaik, if it did, I would hope aircarft would look a hell of a lot more like aircraft on FLIR and we probably would not have the ground vehicle FLIR problem either. So the point of wings covering up the hot nozzels for lookdown is valid and I would be universally happy if DCS did simulate that but I fear we just have a abstract value based system for this, if at all. About which I am not even sure, given that you can be looking straight into the engine exhaust of an mi8 with your heatseeker, nothing happens, as soon as you are rear hemisphere, you get tone. About the signal strength, again, thats something I am not interested in in the first place. Razbam has stuck to DCS's modelling of that with the mirage as far as I can tell so I expect that from the harrier. And again, this is what "hard to lock" in the sense of "you need to get close" would be influenced by. My concern is emission spectrum and my question was can DCS even support altered distribution of engine parts emitting in the IR spectrum.
-
Yeah I am saying it should be way easier to get a fox2 to connect on a harrier, not that it should be easier. :D You basically get free rear aspect comparable shots on both sides. Like even shitty rear aspect aim9s can probably get tone on it in relatively high aspect since the nozzles are out on the side not on the rear. :)
-
Thing is front aspect vs rear aspect is a big difference in IR spectrum. Emission power is one thing, that mainly determines at what range you can get a target recognition. The spectrum the hot metal from exhaust does emit in is way easier to tell apart from flares in general which is a big part of the reason why a rear aspect shot on a standard plane is a bigger problem to actually spoof then a front aspect one, same engine setting at that. Since the Harrier has exhaust nozzles on both sides basically side aspect behaves as rear aspect for your day to day standard engine config, while front and rear are more comparable to side aspect on a "normal" airplane. :) The overall signal strength so to speak is not what I meant, since I know you can model that in DCS already. :)

Question is will the harriers different IR signature setup in comparison to other planes, due to the exhaust placement be modelled ?

DITER is a go, this is great news !

VR has so much superior headtracking, honestly i would take 2d Monitor without zoom with that quality of tracking any day. But well. wont happen. TIR will stay like this until its made obsolete by better VR I think naturalpoint missed the moment for a better solution. Nobody forces anyone to fly VR. Limiting others that dont, to worse options, because you are at a perceived disadvantage with your setup is like pretty bonkerz. Like the Idea of a VR only server back in the day was sane imho. Like that splits a tiny community into a even tinier subgroup of VR users, but if they want to mix it up with all the perceived fairness, sure. Limiting the majority because someone feels they are at a disadvantage and stuff. I dunno. :D Apart from the fact that I have people in VR and people with monitor and TIR and people with a hat switch and a few button stick, no hotas that are still scarry as **** to fight in the merge. Hardware setups will differ, limiting others is a bad approach. Like I fly mirage only a2a, because I like it and I am a systems and customize all the settings type of guy. Still I dont cry limit flanker and f15 to one engine or i dunno what for memes. or limit them to half gun damage because mirage guns shoot rice at very high velocity and thats it. So yee. This thread is amusing me, bring da popcorn.

You get free depth perception and better spatial awareness with VR. I havent noticed having an easier or harder time in going against VR players. Also there is a x4 VR zoom. The A cant compete with B argument doesnt hold imho.

Here my last coverage for this SATAC 51st vs SF. Joined by 104th Maverick for the commentary. :) Event was really great the 6hour streaming sessions were really exhausting though. :D Congratulations to the 51st, well deserved victory imho you put on a great show !

I, as an certified, dedicated mirage memelord, give the setup my seal of approval as well. :D The ER really has some prominent flaws over the other missiles [in DCS] which makes it much less the unbeatable uber threat that the overall motor output makes it seem to be.

TAW vs SF Was some really awesome matches Stuge and I were on the edge of our seats more then once commentating ! :D Start to 1:21:00 rounds 1-3 Final round 1:54:00 Comical highlight: Making the AN2 competitive in the modern DCS battlefield: 1:02:30 And the clickable timecodes dont really work dunno why. /shrug

There is many a2g aircraft without mlws...
-
Yeah clean it doesnt go beyond 1.85 anymore
-
lel equalized for firing time the eagle gets 417 of its 950 rounds and su27 gets 105. ;D

Will the flare count be fixed to some arbitrary number or will each frame just have the maximum amount of flares loaded ? Also what will be the fuel amount for the M2k ?
