  1. Weird request, maybe. But, if it were possible and not a pain for the devs, I think it'd be nice if they took the "high" water setting from 2.5.5 and made it the "medium" setting for 2.5.6. Why? The new (2.5.6) water looks amazing on high, but it is a bit of a FPS killer now. I thought the 'high' setting 2.5.5 looked great, and I took no performance penalty. Now, in 2.5.6, if you choose "medium," it doesn't look as good as "high" in 2.5.5. Hence, the humble request. Of course, perhaps with some tweaking, the new 'high' setting won't take as much of a FPS penalty in the future... but Super Carrier. :)
  2. Yeah, I did some more testing with other missions (with moving ground units) and the FPS drops are still pretty bad after yesterday's (4-22) patch. I'm getting sudden drops from about 40 fps to about 16 fps (and then sticking at 16 for 5 or 10 seconds) when vehicles start moving... which is pretty jarring. So, on my end, yesterday's patch gave me about a 10 fps improvement over how it was in the previous 2.5.6 with moving ground units.
  3. Quick question regarding my original 'bug' report: If I put TWS in "AUTO," does that negate rdr elv in the real Hornet? If so, it seems that my problem might be that I'm in "AUTO" in TWS and that's why I'm not getting rdr elv control. But here's the kicker: rdr elv control stops working, then, when I'm in normal RWS mode, which doesn't seem right. Hope that helps narrow down if this is a DCS problem or ham-fisted-user-problem.
  4. Since the latest 2.5.6 patch or two, when flying the hornet, the radar elevation will stop functioning completely on me during a mission. The elevation function works great at the beginning. But something happens after the radar gets put through its paces (i.e. - switching b/w RWS and TWS, going in and out of ACM modes, switching weapons, Undesignating/designating, etc.) I have two tracks here where it happens (but they're really long. I'll try and create a shorter one when I get a chance). No RDR elev B.trk No RDR elev C.trk Three caveats about the situation to rule some things out: - Radar page is sensor of interest - I'm not in an ACM mode when trying - I'm in RWS and TWS (not in BIAS or STT'ing a target) It happened during the 8v8 instant action hornet mission, in the F-16C "overwhelming force" mission (which I switched the PLAYER aircraft to the Hornet instead for some mission variety), and in other missions. I'm not sure what the culprit is? If it is something about a combo of going into TWS and back to RWS? Going from one search to ACM mode? Not sure. It's currently happening most of the time I use the Hornet Radar in air to air... Elevation just ceases to work. Again, in every case, Radar Elev. works at the beginning of the mission, though. Thanks!
  5. Just tried the health bars 'off' idea... it had no apparent effect for me in game.
  6. Indeed, it is.
  7. Regarding this thread and today's line from the change log notes: "Reducing the CPU load when path finding a group of infantry." ... Our test mission with moving vehicles improved a little. Instead of grinding to a halt around 6-8 FPS with moving vehicles, it now "only" dips down to about 15 or 16 FPS from steady highs around 40 FPS (with all the same test conditions of course). And the overall FPS performance averages are now, apparently for me, higher. It's still not very playable due to the fairly dramatic stutter of going from 40ish to 18ish FPS... but it is DEFINITELY an improvement for this issue in 2.5.6. Feel free, anyone, to run the test mission again and post results after today's patch. Good steps in the right direction.
  8. Good stuff! Thanks, Matt! I'm in love with this jet.
  9. Thanks, Derneuemann.
  10. Deleted. Will repost in correct place.
  11. 100 % correct.
  12. Great post. I've thought this since day one. TDC on ddi is perfect... HUD? WAY, out of control, too fast.
  13. Interesting. I don't get any of that whatsoever on my TCL S405 at 4K. You might look up your TV here and see what its input lag is rated at: https://displaylag.com/display-database/ Not sure, though, that input lag (slow or fast) would cause what you're describing...
  14. You mean input lag, not refresh rate? Refresh rate on my TV is 60 hz
  15. I've been using a 55 inch TCL at 4K with a 1070 as well. It works great! It has a very low input lag (like 14.8 ms) for a TV and is not noticeable to me at all in DCS coming from a monitor. It's 60 hz refresh rate with VSYNC in DCS 'on' is perfect. You'd spend three to five thousand dollars for a PC monitor this big (and I paid for my 55 inch for under $450).
  16. Thanks for the response, Panzer! I've had those very same thoughts. A few things, though: - I'm a bit leery to purchase a used card in general, and though they do sell used sometimes on Amazon, my purchase has to be on Amazon and it looks like there aren't too many well priced, used 1080 ti options there at the moment. - I've seen some benchmark tests that suggest the 2070 Super is performing a about as well as the 1080 TI (which is why I'd like to hear about performance specifically within DCS). Have you seen any of these? I looked here in particular: https://www.techspot.com/review/1907-geforce-1080-ti-vs-rtx-2070-super-vs-radeon- 5700-xt/The 11 GB is certainly a plus for the 1080 TI. - As far as people suggesting waiting until gen 3 gpu's come out for 1080 ti types to lower in price... It appears that this card (and most higher end cards), no matter how old, only go up in price or stagnate in price. Thanks.
  17. Hey, everyone. Quick question: I've been considering a GPU upgrade from my current 1070 SC to a 2070 Super in lieu of some Amazon gift card money. Has anyone here upgraded from that card to that card? If so, did you see a worthwhile performance enhancement? Please note I'm on a 8700K at stock speeds. Bonus point if you play at full 4K. Just want to see if the 2070 Super would be worth the $500-ish upgrade price over my current card (which runs pretty decently). Side note: I wonder if people realize that going to 4K in DCS actually doesn't hurt performance too badly because, at the higher resolutions, AA filtering is not really necessary. Thanks in advance.
  18. Thanks for testing, NineLine.
  19. Distiler, I just tested your version of my mission with no ground unit movement. You're absolutely right. It seems that 2.5.6 cannot handle ground units in motion. Anyone, feel free to test the two missions found in this thread to see for yourself. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=270059

  21. Wow...fantastic! Thanks for testing, Distiler. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Anyone else willing to test?
  22. Hey, ED Team (and everyone else who's more tech savvy than I). I created a heavy stress test mission in Open Beta after today's (4-17) little 2.5.6 hotfix for the sake of comparing the latest OB with the latest Stable version. Here are my results with the same graphics settings for both builds. When the mission starts in the latest 2.5.6 OB, panning the mouse around the Hornet cockpit before takeoff, I'm doing between 6 and 8 FPS. When the mission starts in Stable, I'm doing between a smooth 40 and 58 FPS, with dips no lower than 30 FPS. LrgTEST1.miz Keep in mind, my Stable version is installed on a slow HDD and my 2.5.6 OB is on my fast SSD. Please use and dissect this mission, if you'd like, to get an idea of what a heavy (400+ units) mission is like between 2.5.5 and 2.5.6. Again, on my moderately decent system, this mission is VERY playable with the same high settings in 2.5.5 (OB or Stable versions). With minimal units, in 2.5.6 OB, just flying around, frame rates are good to excellent on my rig. However, adding (ground?) units in 2.5.6 just kills it. For what it's worth, my previous stress-test mission worked better in the 2.5.6 before yesterday's update. So the latest update is actually performing worse for me when adding more than a few units. Would love to get some feedback from other users who have the ability to test this mission more in-depth between 2.5.5 and the latest 2.5.6. It would be great to see if the FPS loss has to do with... - AI path execution. - Ground vehicle / soldier weapons firing - Poorer cpu utilization in 2.5.6 - 2.5.6 lighting enhancements - etc. Again, I'm playing in 2D at 4K. -Cheers! PS - I don't use any mods and I'm an FXO/MS2 folder deleter.
  23. Indeed.
  24. Hey, Wags and Team. Was watching a real life vid today of a legacy Hornet pilot on the carrier setting up on the cat. I watched him reach down and dim the DDI's and the AMPCD... I paused for a second and thought, 'sheesh, I've had to do that 500 times in my ED Hornet and it looks JUST like that, every time.' Even in its current EA state, you have produced a masterpiece in this simulated aircraft (and the world/environment surrounding it). Well done! I've said it before here, but if DCS's only flyable aircraft was the Hornet (and there are many other amazing ones available to be sure), I'd be satisfied. Throw in that Dynamic Campaign and some Vulkan multi-threading.... my goodness! Well done. That's all.
