  1. So I was doing the bear escort mission last night and got hit with, I'm guessing, an R-60. Lost the right engine and apparently the whole INS. The VDI horizon disappeared, HSI froze, the HUD lost most symbology and I lost all radar function. I've been looking through the manual and various guides but the question I can't find an answer to is can the AWG-9 be pointed to the backups like the BDHI and standby attitude indicator or are you SOL at that point?
  2. Weird, I could've sworn it was just my last flight that was really smokey, guess I wasn't paying attention...
  3. If you like the style, synthwave is the genre. Lots of people are doing '80s electronic revival stuff these days.

  5. I'm a little late to this party but it sounds like the ball is reacting to turns properly. The F-14 only has adverse yaw at high AoA, as mentioned, and under those conditions the ball moves in the direction of roll. At low AoA it's actually proverse, in which case the ball moves opposite the turn. Roll spoilers were actually designed to prevent adverse yaw in the first place but I guess, like anything, they have their limits. Could be they overcompensate at low AoA so that the sweet spot where they work properly is in a more usable range for a fighter plane, as opposed to an airliner that's never going to see that kind of AoA.
  6. We can already do a dump and burn with the F-14. That said, the effects clearly need some polish. Real DCS
  7. You're assuming small variations require an equally small amount of work to make. Even if two planes share 90% commonality you can't make one for 10% of the work just because you already made the other, the Tomcat is a great example of that. If building a new variant is going to take most of the work of building the base plane you may as well charge full price for it. That aside, no one wants to be bullied into buying more than they want. If I want a new module I'm going to expect to pay 100% for it (sales aside), I don't want to be told I actually have to pay 120% because it needs to be bundled with another module I'll never use. Anyways, back to the MiG-23! Has anyone seen EM charts for the MLA or MLD? Were they in this thread or the other one and I missed them?
  8. Well you'd probably end up fumbling around to get it back into the spider detent after your stunt, seems like a poor time to have your hand off the throttle.
  9. Yeah, I would test above 40,000. Should be able to shoot it into low orbit if you're high and fast enough at launch.
  10. Haven't flown the Spit in a while but don't you need to open the side door as well as the canopy to bail out?
  11. That seems needlessly restrictive. If there were two modules why not just give owners of one a discount toward the other?
  12. If you're flying as a pilot, though, it really helps to use the TID repeater mode on the HSI, then you see what Jester sees.
  13. Well that makes sense, with STT it should be in SARH mode, as soon as you lose lock it goes dumb just like a sparrow.
  14. Well that makes sense. Every other mode is either active off the rail or never active at all, right?
  15. Last I heard, we're still waiting on updated afterburner effects for the Cat. Copyright discussions aside, is there any reason not to port the new F-16 burner effect to the F-14? The Cat has the same engines, just with longer tail pipes, and the photos I've seen of the burner flames look real similar between the two so theoretically they should be real similar in DCS, too.
  16. Makes sense, thanks. He did mention a ballistic trajectory, I guess the idea is to do a long, unloaded high yo-yo at zero g?
  17. In the following video from the Reapers, VHS mentions that you can accelerate faster with wings manually swept full aft, particularly at high altitude. I'm trying to wrap my ahead around the physics of that... Isn't the auto sweep program giving you max lift to drag ratio at any given speed? Does the reduction of frontal area make a bigger difference at low G?
  18. Yup, looks like you borked the INS, definitely a feature not a bug. With the latest patch that’s gonna tilt your radar search patterns, too.
  19. Am I crazy in thinking this data will be in the manual eventually? With an online manual you could even have a dynamic calculator; it’s been done before in FSX, if I remember right.
  20. Show me Just to clarify, gathering promo clips is not part of a tester’s job description. ED has a team of cinematic people who, I’m sure, are working on some beautiful stuff to show us all in the near future.
  21. Yeah, mainly I was comparing the nozzle petals to the unpainted shroud ahead of it. In DCS they almost match in color whereas in photos the petals are distinctly brighter.
  22. Never noticed until now that the nozzles are a lot darker in DCS than in photos. Obviously a super minor thing but not sure if it's on the bug radar. Game Photo
  23. How is that legal? It's an entire copyrighted book posted online for free...
  24. Yup, the INS should have accurate G readings up until the point where it breaks.
  25. Autopilot toggle is the master switch, alt and heading hold do not work without it on. AP ref/NWS toggle tells the autopilot to hold current heading and/or altitude when in the air (single press, not toggle). When on the ground it turns nose wheel steering on and off.
