  1. This seems to be the USN way to do it, the F-14 works the same way.
  2. Having used buttons on an X52 and the axis on Virpil's replica stick I'd say the axis is more of a novelty than anything. The DLC system isn't really meant for fine tuning your glide slope, it's more for dealing with sudden updrafts like hitting the burble at the back of the carrier. That said, I'm also guilty of using it to slow down a sloppy approach that's too fast; when fully deployed the spoilers pretty much double the drag of your speed brakes in addition to killing lift. For keeping on speed I've found auto throttle to be the best tool so long as stick inputs aren't too abrupt.
  3. Yeah, I think a lot of modules will be getting new and improved vapor effects after that update. Current effects feel like placeholders.
  4. It’s PLM, not PAL. I agree they probably weren’t modeled because you’d never see them from the pilot’s POV. Also no, they do not do the same thing. PLM is for locking the radar, Cage/SEAM is for locking sidewinders.
  5. I don’t think anyone should consider an FC3 plane the benchmark for proper radar behavior.

  7. What is it that makes the Sparrow garbage? (Honest question) I’ve only used them once myself and I think my misses were likely fired below minimum range. That said, one fired on a hot target around 10 miles actually lost lock halfway there, reacquired in flood and got a kill, that was pretty cool.
  8. Take an analog parametric EQ and swap the frequency potentiometer for a transistor driven by the doppler frequency solver.
  9. The MLC filter frequency is simply ground speed from the INS fed into this: I assume the bandwidth of +/-133 kts of own speed is to compensate for the limited accuracy of the INS.
  10. I think it has more to do with max range. Land will scatter the pulses vs a smooth ocean reflecting them further out.
  11. I would love to see a Vietnam-era carrier Phantom. And those short nozzle J79's have that menacing howl... I don't think Belsimtek's prior work on the F-4E means anything at this point. Wags' response on mudspike sounded like it's not on their road map which puts years away at best.
  12. Well the diamond requires more lead than the pipper when maneuvering, seems to indicate it's looking further ahead than the pipper.

  16. But the water pump is driven by the engine, high RPM means high coolant flow. In another forum years ago a Spitfire SME cited the old saying "Low revs and high boost, brings you safely home to roost" and said as little as 1800 RPM at +4 psi was considered acceptable on a Mk II.

  18. It's pointing where it is because you're gaining on him and he's off to the left. The vectors aren't telling you which way the target is actually traveling, they're telling you how the target is moving relative to you. Makes intercepting super easy because when the vector points straight down you're on a pure pursuit course.
  19. Hammerhead: OP's first video says it's a hammerhead but he's missing the rudder kick. That said, a jet's rudders don't work at 0 airspeed, anyhow, whereas props have prop wash. With the F-14 your only option is to try splitting the throttles at max and min and hoping you don't stall one or both of the engines.

  21. It’s both. It’s an axis lever with a button at the end of its travel and thus it’s not a hundred percent accurate to the real stick. I have it set up for brakes the Russian way because it saved a hundred euros getting single axis pedals vs triple axis.

  23. Needing extra thrust to unstick the plane from a standstill is a DCS-wide issue, as far as I know. I’ve seen it in every jet module I own.
  24. Yeah, like Mike said, it’s very solid plastic and I like that it’s not cold every time I grab it like a metal grip. Switches are all very solid, the second detent of the trigger is super crisp. The only weird thing is the brake lever axis doesn’t do much until about ⅓ of the way through the throw but it’s possible I just need to recalibrate it.
