  1. Alternatively, you could set it to ram if you really want but you may still run into overheating when getting low and slow in warm weather.
  2. Is FFB really an option? As far as I’m aware, your two choices for FFB are either pay €1250 for a Brunner or scrounge eBay for an ancient MS Sidewinder that has FFB but sucks in every other way compared to a modern stick.
  3. Attitude and Heading Reference Set. It's the backup for the IMU and it has significant limitations. If I recall, heading is magnetic only and attitude is from mechanical gyros that will drift over time. It also hits gimbal lock at ±82º pitch. You can correct errors by holding down the HDG knob while flying straight and level at constant speed, NATOPS says this could take up to 3 min.
  4. That's what I was looking for, thanks.
  5. Here I am living in the analog world of the F-14 while the kids are raving about newfangled contraptions like towed decoys and computers that tell you how to defeat missiles lol.
  6. Yup.
  7. Sure, the pilot has to pull the trigger. All I’m asking is if the Typhoon was designed to use the IRIS-T as a defense against incoming missiles.
  8. Why wouldn't it be automatic? Praetorian can see incoming missiles and presumably tell the WCS where to shoot.
  9. I'm guessing the either/or symbology is because there's a limit to how many things the HUD can draw simultaneously?
  10. It's pretty widely advertised that the IRIS-T is capable of "interception of opponents' missiles," as Diehl puts it. Is it pretty reliable in that role or is it more of a theoretical capability? On paper it sounds like Star Trek shields when coupled with the Praetorian DASS. Until you run out of missiles, anyway... https://www.diehl.com/defence/en/products/guided-missiles/#iris-t
  11. Are you sure it’s not all the other planes that are broken?
  12. +1
  13. Haven’t seen that one. The simplest method to hand the radar back to Jester is to hit PLM since that’s the only pilot mode that’s momentary, it only works while holding the button.
  14. In case anyone missed the SC forum thread about this, the issue was found to be not calling inbound before see you at 10 when starting a mission within 10 nm of the carrier. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=280744
  15. The SparrowHawk is kind of a packaged deal, though, right? E.g. an F-14B with the PTID may have the SparrowHawk but all SparrowHawk planes have PTIDs.
  16. Spiceman makes an interesting point about the numerals, though. Pretty much every display in the Cat is vector-based, aside from LANTIRN and TCS video. They’re drawing each character and symbol with an electron beam like a pen on paper. Text is particularly difficult to do with precision on that kind of display: I’m guessing it would just take some tweaks to the font to get results closer to the above. Probably much more difficult to dynamically change font relative to G but it would be a super cool effect if it’s possible.
  17. F14B Fly by wire The horizontal tails pivot around the aerodynamic center so theoretically it takes the same force to move them at any speed. And the roll spoilers are technically FBW so none of their forces reach the stick, either. That said, jet fighters with non-FBW controls tend to have a bob weight that increases stick force with increase in G rather than speed. With that in place it should be very difficult to over stress the plane with a smooth pull. I’m curious, though, if a sudden yank defeats the system because you’re moving the stick faster than G onset...
  18. I’ve used the MiG-28 Furball for that. It’s really supposed to be more of a 2 v Unk dogfight but, if I recall, you’ve got 80 or so miles from the carrier to setup BVR shots.
  19. HUD Pitch Ladder It eventually got a modern HUD called the SparrowHawk but those were only installed a couple years before retirement. What we have now represents what the plane looked like over pretty much the entirety of its service life.

    Chains

Better still if the chocks command automatically picked chains on the boat and chocks on land.
  21. Of note, while trying to find which manual explained secondary mode I found that, at least in the F-14D, SEC mode is engaged by the paddle switch in addition to the mode switches. Not sure if that's present in the B since it's not in HB's manual and I don't have a copy of a B NATOPS.
  22. What's the procedure for maneuver flap takeoff? Dip them down just before rotation speed?
  23. Wednesday’s patch notes specifically call out adjusting the flap damage model so I think we’re good there, or at least making progress.
  24. We appreciate the hard work. And I agree, it's good to see the core being worked on, just a bit painful going through development.
