  1. Doesn't PAL use PSTT?
  2. That just means you have some flexibility in turn radius at max sustained rate.
  3. Well aside from avoiding duplicating work, the other benefit of porting features from ED's carrier is commonality in the user experience. Anything that can be the same between the two boats probably should be the same.
  4. Request/suggestion +1 There really ins't any good A2A combat training in any of the modules, they all assume you know the basics so they just teach you the process for the aircraft-specific systems involved. I ended up getting the book on fighter tactics and maneuvering which was super informative but more casual players trying out DCS for the first time aren't gonna go buy a $20 book to help figure it out. I always thought it'd be rad to have a set of training courses done in the spirit of Topgun (the school not the movie). A whole set of missions that would teach you how to fight, preferably in the F14 but I suppose you could do it for any fighter module. I guess really it’d be a training “campaign.”
  5. You really don't need an axis for it, just buttons for up/down.
  6. Asking as a non-RIO, is there a reason you guys don’t use PD search for long range?
  7. +1 on the master alarm, most of the time when it gets tripped I don’t notice until engine shutdown... Maybe add a bit of bloom to the light to make it pop more? Also +1 on a fresher A model since it should be 10ish years younger.
  8. Are you talking about the textures being a failure or the vintage avionics? I think most of us have acclimated to the instruments and HUD as is...
  9. As I'm sure all the MiG-21 and Mirage guys know, a delta wing makes a good air brake.
  10. Well ED/Belsimtek are doing the Air Force F-4E... I always wanted to see a carrier Phantom but aside from the F-14 the only other time I can think of getting more than one variant of an aircraft is the P-51, so odds are not high of seeing one. I do wonder if ED will license Jester for theirs, though.
  11. For sure, there are no magic bullets in ACM. Rather than a wing over with rudder I just roll as necessary to put the bogey in-plane then pull straight back again to bring the nose over the top of the loop, I don’t have faith in the engines staying lit with that much yaw.
  12. https://ibb.co/f8vGxNp Just tried this maneuver in the 1v1 instant action. Hit the merge fast with full burner then pull at max sustainable G until around 10-20 degrees past vertical then unload to maximize your altitude gain. Once airspeed bleeds down near corner speed pull the nose down onto the target and hit him from above. Funny thing is the AI doesn't seem to know what to do with this maneuver, the Flanker turns flat to match your initial course and then appears to be waiting for you to shoot him on the downhill pass. Like fish in a barrel.
  13. Not my experience with the MiG-21... That thing will flame out quickly from zero G and a little less quickly from negative G. Usually restarts okay after that so I assume there's no major damage. I can also assume pretty accurate engine failure modes on the TF30s in the future.
  14. Well an F-14 thread about fuel flow is probably not a good place for visibility, however, I like where you're going and improved weather would be awesome. It's perhaps the only thing I've missed in my transition from FSX to DCS.
  15. Yup, the gun sight symbology takes precedence over the radar scan symbology. As mentioned above, you can switch weapons to anything else if you're not actively shooting and want the visual feedback. Regarding OP questions, with a single press PAL will start scanning and keep scanning until you tell the radar to do something different. Same goes for VSL HI and LO, the radar will use the chosen search mode until overridden. It may take a couple sweeps to lock a target but once it does you'll see the diamond on target, even with gun selected. PLM, on the other hand, only works while holding the button but overrides any other mode. Put the target under the ADL and hold PLM until lock. PAL has the longest range of all pilot modes (15 nm vs 5 nm for the others).
  16. That's pretty much a requirement to be able to launch multiple missiles at multiple targets, right (at least IRL)? The radar has to update each missile on where its respective target is so you don't get three missiles chasing one target when they all go pitbull downrange.
  17. That's all I wanted to know, thanks Mike!
  18. In the bug thread here http://showthread.php?t=240565&highlight=Nozzle it was mentioned that the F110 nozzles are driven by engine oil rather than the flight hydraulic system and the TF30 nozzles are driven by fuel pressure. That being the case, how is it that F-14s, particularly A models, were frequently seen with one or both nozzles open when parked? In both cases the nozzle loses pressure as its engine shuts down and should close on its own. Here’s one TF30 example: And in this one both nozzles are open: Was this something that happened with the ground crew during maintenance?
  19. Shouldn't they drop on their own as pressure bleeds down? The inner doors on the P-51 work like that and take a few minutes to droop after shutdown.
  20. Vic205's Sticky Tutorials?? He took them down after the FM changed and they were less relevant. I believe the intent was to update them when things are more stable.
  21. It's crazy you guys have to figure out ED's changes on your own rather than them sending you a memo ahead of time of what specifically they're doing.
  22. If I recall, this was the general advice for the TF30 engines in the A to avoid compressor stalls, the F110 engines in the B don't have that issue. Kinda... As you come over the top of a loop you may want to cut the burners to avoid picking up too much speed on the downhill leg. As mentioned in the ACM video, the Cat can continue to turn at a much lower speed than most other fighters, good for angles tactics.
  23. And it comes from the missile chasing anything it sees, friend or foe, like a mad dog.
  24. That's what I thought for the longest time but they've grown on me. They're not nearly as silly as the Thud's 4-petal nozzle, at least.
  25. In a way ED has done this with the helicopters. The trim systems have unrealistic options for stick centering and rudder trim because PC controls don’t work like the real choppers. And at the end of the day these unrealistic options allow you to fly more like the real pilots, which should always be the goal. I thought they lit one at a time because the time from ignition to light off is variable, you just don’t notice it with one engine.
