+ 1 on using the DCS manual. The manual is some 250 pages with pages 58 through 223 dedicated to the Missions Editor!
-
Probably not unless you're willing to spend a long time to finish all the tasks alone. There are about 70 targets that must be killed in the 2-4 player version, and over 100 in the 4-6 player version. Even if I were to give you a few wingmen, they will not rearm and refuel to continue with you after the first sortie so you'll be able to use them only until their armament runs out. So that's a lot of RTB's and re-arming for a single player to do! If you would like to try I will adjust the mission somewhat for one player by reducing the number of targets and add two wingmen and send it to you to try if you'll test it for me and tell me... will you be flying the A model or the C ? I suppose if there were enough requests here for a single player version, I could make one by reducing the amount of targets to match a 3 ship loadout and change a few other threats/surprises to make it a much shorter, single sortie mission. Anyone else interested in a single player version?

Steel Winter - an ongoing Multiplayer co-op missions project for A-10C's & A-10A's ** Do Not use my voiceover files in any other missions created for DCS. It's not fair to the hard work of the actors and to the hours I have spent to coordinate with the actors and to produce these voice files. Steel Winter is a series of multiplayer co-op missions for both A-10A and A-10C pilots in the same mission. These will be built in Ver 1.5.4 current release using the mission editor only, no additional scripting. I'll edit and repair them if any become buggy when a new release version of the game is adopted. No mods are required although Starway's Caucasus Textures 2.0 will give you much nicer Winter Scenery. The Situation: Our squadron of A-10's are part of a select United States air and ground combat unit that was invited to Russia to participate in a good-will joint training exercise with the Russian military, similar to the USA's Red Flag but fully integrating ground warfare into the training program. Air and ground forces from Germany and The United Kingdom are also represented here for this prestigious event. A few months after our arrival, reports and rumors have come in from various sources and news agencies of a rogue Russian General's attacks on the civilian population and the looting of local towns and cities, even full scale assaults on Russian military units and bases. After a period of acclimation to the cold climate and feeling confident that we can now work effectively with the Russian forces, this new coalition of the USA, Germany, the UK and Russia has been tasked with locating the General and stopping these brutal attacks on the local population and isolated Russian military units. Hard intel on the General's forces is limited, but he is known to have under his command a division of armored vehicles and tanks and approximately 50 aircraft and helicopters. His troops are loyal and well paid from the spoils stolen from the local towns and cities that have been attacked, and will likely fight to the end. Our mission is to apprehend the General, alive if possible, to stand trial in a Russian court of law, and to decimate his forces to the point that they disband and are no longer a threat. Reports of attacks and atrocities in the Mozdok area indicate that he has a large presence here and is recruiting from the Russian military units that he has defeated. Your squadron has been requested at Mozdok Airbase to help drive this rogue General and his forces out of the area. Other coalition forces will be arriving in the next few days so your main objective until they arrive is to maintain control of Mozdok Airbase. Targeting pods for the "C" models were lost en-route to Russia, but we expect them to be found eventually or new ones flown in from the USA. For now we have plenty of IR and TV Mavericks, rockets and cluster munitions, iron bombs and ECM pods.Navigation is simplified using the ATC menu, the MGRS grid system and you will also get direction, by voice, in degrees and distance to a target from a known location. These are not quickie missions often taking 2 hours or so to complete, and they are somewhat relaxed in complexity so that A's can coexist with the C's. The mission goals will not be achieved in a single sortie, so be ready for lots of RTB'ing to re-arm and re-fuel as most target groups will need to be completely wiped out to continue. The text briefings will be sparse and basic. You will receive most of your orders, by voice, in the cockpit. Kudos to the Voice Actors who provide a unique service by producing the recordings that make missions more fun. Their efforts greatly increase the immersion factor. Listen carefully for their announcements as these are your instructions on what to do. Voice overs: * Riproren * Chris “Datek” Poulos * Bill "Bingo" Clark * Maury "Moose" Pratt * Dmitriy "Alieneye" Grigoryev * Yurgon * Cen "DarkFire" Blackwell * Eric "Air" Hahn * Kimi "Sockmonkey" Hahn * Glenn "Apache600" Lilley * Sam "Hook" Johnson * ViKe ** Do Not use my voiceover files in any other missions created for DCS. It's not fair to the hard work of the actors and to the hours I have spent to coordinate with the actors and to produce these voice files. For each mission I'll be providing a standard version for 2 to 4 players in any combination of A-10A's and/or A-10C's. Do not occupy all the slots, fly with 4 slots/pilots max or there may not be enough action to keep you entertained. I'll also supply an alternate version for 4 to 6 players in any combination of A-10A's and/or A-10C's. Again, do not occupy all the slots, fly with 6 slots/pilots max or there may not be enough action. Choose your own server settings to customize the difficulty for your particular group, although I have locked "Fog of War" on the F10 Map setting, and civil traffic at "low". I hope you find these entertaining. This mini-campaign is being built out of love for the A-10A which we fly often in our Wednesday and Friday DCS sessions and, of course, I didn't want to leave out the A-10C pilots but note their complexity is somewhat reduced by the lack of TGP's. Comments, critiques and discussion are welcomed and any questions will be answered to the best of my ability. The first mission is below and more to come in the future as they are completed and tested. Be ready for a long mission! All of your tasks will be given by voice and on-screen text, so have pen and paper handy to jot down target information and locations. It’s our fourth day at Mozdok airbase and the weather is getting worse. Sorties have been reduced somewhat due to snowstorms and supply problems, but we still fly when conditions allow. We have inflicted much damage to the General’s forces that have attacked us, and are looking forward to going on the offensive as soon as the rest of our assets are in place and our missing equipment arrives. Crates of our equipment, including the TGP’s, turned up in Germany and are at this moment being loaded into a C-130 for transport to Mozdok. Yesterday, tanks and armored vehicles of our Multinational Force engaged a buildup of the General’s forces several klicks southeast of Mozdok airbase. The battle is now over and our armor is coming back to Mozdok to repair, rearm and refuel, and to get medical treatment for the wounded. Mission three will be to escort three Tank Platoons through “The Gauntlet” (the name given to the area just south and east of Mozdok airbase by one of our Tank Commanders). This area is full of natural cover and terrain features that make it perfect for springing ambushes. I would like to thank all the voice actors again, and welcome a few extraordinary new actors to Steel Winter. Since we arrived at Mozdok we have beaten back every attack by "The General" and have inflicted severe damage to his land and air forces. It would now seem that he has had enough! Last night a large convoy of his vehicles was spotted leaving Nalchik airbase and another vehicle convoy is, at this moment, departing from Beslan. Scramble to your A-10's that are armed and fueled, and standby for an in-cockpit briefing. "C" models are equipped with our new found TGP's so use them to locate and takeout any air defenses in the convoys first. Here's our chance to keep the General from relocating these men and this equipment to another area where he can continue to terrorize the population. With a Predator drone to keep an eye on the two convoys for you, you must destroy every vehicle to complete today's mission. Begin by attacking the Beslan convoy as it is closer, then locate and attack the Nalchik convoy. Beware of his few remaining fighter aircraft. You will have one F-15C, Mirage or F-5E to provide top cover for your attacks. Make sure to play the correct mission for the number of pilots you have, don't just fill all the slots. It's now Spring and we have transferred to Kutaisi airbase in search of the General. It's taken some time to locate him but we now have good intel that he's hiding out at Kobuleti airbase and in the process of rebuilding and recruiting. Images from one of our Drones show him in posession of a particular Su-34 Fullback Bomber that was recently equipped with a new top secret weapons and avionics package. The Russian military desperately wants that Fullback returned, .... so we're going to steal it for them! Our task is to attack the enemy forces at Kobuleti and eliminate all threats so one of our transport aircraft can land there. Recon photos show SAM's and AAA vehicles as well as patrolling tanks and armored vehicles at the objective. A few units are stationed in the nearby towns and may try to reinforce Kobuleti airfield as our attack progresses. We will have a C-130 Hercules available to us, on-board will be an SAS Strike Team and two CIA pilots. The mission will consist of 6 phases: Phase 1. A-10's (or one Su-25T) will attack and destroy air defenses at Kobuleti. Phase 2. A-10's will then destroy any and all ground forces at and near Kobuleti. Phase 3. The A-10 Flight Leader will then call in the C-130 to land at Kobuleti. Phase 4. Once the C-130 has landed and stopped, the SAS team will disembark, move to and secure the Fullback's hangar, and insert the CIA pilots. Phase 5. A-10's will provide CAS in case the enemy tries to reinforce Kobuleti. Phase 6. The CIA pilots will steal the Fullback and land at Kutaisi airbase with the A-10's providing escort. Satellite surveillance has spotted 4 identical convoys moving out from Kobuleti in all directions. Intel is positive he's in a vehicle in one of those convoys... but we don't know which one! Your A-10's are armed with Mavericks, LGB's(A-10C), Iron Bombs(A-10A) and, of course, Guns. We have exhausted our supply of cluster bombs. You may start engines whenever you want, but DO NOT leave your hangars until after the voice briefing. The Predator drones will spot the convoys for you as they leave Kobuleti and disperse. Fly towards your waypoint 2 and make contact with the first drone. Once you have destroyed the first convoy, follow instructions and proceed to the next available drone. To contact any of the other drones when they arrive, just fly close to them. Depart from Kutaisi airbase and with help from the Drones, hunt down and kill the General. Senaki-Kolkhi airbase can be used as an alternate airbase to Repair, Rearm and Refuel. At mission end, after landing at Kutaisi, look for the Easter Egg at the NorthEast parking revetment. I ripped out SLI - sold one card already.
Winston 60 replied to rrohde's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
rrohde, I did the same last week. Removed my two 4gb GTX 680's in favor of a single GTX 980ti. SLI development for DCS has been painfully slow with no news yet of a solution in the foreseeable future. -
R.I.P. He player a pivotal role in flight sims as we know them today.
-
Thanks for the clarification on the TrackIR fix SkateZilla.
-
What does that mean, exactly? :dontgetit:
-
Glad you found it! Ya gotta love the "A" it's great for just having fun.
-
Is that key or button trapped by any other program running (like TrackIR)? Try assigning a another/different key and/or button in addition to the "D" and "Joy4" to see if the new key or button will cycle your weapons, otherwise I'm out of ideas unless maybe running a repair? Best of luck.
-
Check your keybindings to see that "D or Joy but 4" is really assigned to change the weapon. Best of luck
-
I'm assuming you have no other programs running in the background and your Windows install is "lean and mean"? How many icons are in the lower right of your desktop tray? Too many things eating CPU cycles and system RAM can also cause stutters. Disabling unnecessary programs and features could help, and don't forget to disable anti-virus to see if that helps. Otherwise.... well, dunno then. I just dumped my SLI 680's (never could get stutter free with SLI enabled in ver 1.5 no matter what inspector settings I tried) in favor of a single 980ti. Lack of proper SLI support in DCS is a serious issue and may not be resolved for quite some time. I understand that you may have had it working previously, but recent patches could have exacerbated the issue even more. I wouldn't insist on running SLI until it's properly fixed by ED. Actually, right now, there's no fps increase to be had even if you were to get SLI working. Just try disabling it altogether, increase your hardware polling in Precision, clean up any unnecessary programs that might be running and try a few flights. Don't cost nothin' except a few minutes monkeying around. Best of luck.

Question regarding track clip pro
Winston 60 replied to The Black Swan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Don't forget interference can be adjusted for somewhat in the TrackIR software. -
davidzill, You may be suffering the stutters because you have SLI enabled. SLI is currently not working in DCS world. There are people who have found settings and claiming it works for them, but for most SLI users the stutters remain and the performance gain from SLI just isn't there. Try disabling SLI in your nvidia profile for DCS to see if the stutters go away. Also check your hardware polling period in EVGA Precision X. I've attached a screenshot that explains this a bit. I've got mine set to 1000ms on my GTX 980ti FTW, but on my old GTX 680's I had to set this to 5000ms to stop my stutters. It's just GPU power dependent. Hope this helps.
-
davidzill, Are you using a GPU control program like EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner?

Yes, could we please get a moderator to make this sticky? And after you do would you please PM me on the subject of removing some of the people who have offered to do this but don't produce anything or even respond to requests? This is a valuable resource for mission builders and it's great to have a database for members who can voice record our scripts. I have had wonderful results with some of the USA English speaking volunteers here and will post more about their help when my current project is complete. Kudos to the guys who do this valuable service for us in a professional and timely manner. Now on the negative side.... really guys, (and you know who you are) why offer to help out the mission builders and then produce nothing after saying you'll do it or not even answering PM's when I can see you visit the forum daily? I'll not mention names but I will ask a moderator to remove the ones who failed to respond and/or chose not to produce recordings after committing to it.

Got it! Many thanks! (reputation given)

Wonderful B-29 skins crazyeddie! It will be nice to have some less shiny ones now. I'm having a bit of trouble with install method in the readme. Could someone elaborate on the install procedure for these B-29 skins, please? The readme says "Simply drop each file into the Liveries file in the B29 and it should show up." Well I don't have a liveries file in my B29, do you mean these go in the B-29.zip file in the texture folder of the mod? Or do these go into the bazar\liveries folder like other skins? I don't have a folder in my bazar\liveries for the B29. Should I make one? What would be the folder name? Or do these skins go into a different location? :dunno:

Multiplayer client mission download and connection progress bar
Winston 60 replied to Shaman's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Great idea shamangdd. It would be nice to have this. Plus some text that says (DO NOT PRESS KEYS OR CLICK MOUSE DURING LOADING). Everyone should be aware not to touch keyboard or click mouse while the entire multiplayer mission is loading. During the load it's possible to get several different screens ranging from a blank map, to a light blue screen, to a black screen, etc. and it's very tempting to click on something or press a key or a button. Waiting until the aircraft selection screen appears before making any key presses or mouse clicks will ensure their game doesn't time out and crash. Multiplayers try to pass the word on this, please.
