  1. those folders contain .dds files. I am trying to find maps I can use with the app, DCS moving map. It uses jpg files. The stock maps are too clutterred and I want to use the default F10 maps from DCS. When I take a map I found on the User Files archive which is a jpg and substitute it into DCS moving map, I get a registration error-they are different projections. I even tried correcting the jpg so it overlays exactly with the stock map in DCS moving map. I susbstituted this corrected map but still get stuff like this: Here I am on the apron at Batumi but it shows me in the water. With the stock map I have this: Although it places me correctly on the map, all the contour lines are too distracting.
  2. Where can I find the jpg files for the maps used in the mission editor? I did find a user file contribution with F10 maps for Syria, Caucasus and PG but am looking for Nevada, Normandy, as well as other maps.
  3. When I get the properties of the Caucasus map, I get this: How should I scale my map? I would like to use the attached map: Its property details are: It seems to work OK as is. Does DPI affect accuracy of indicated location?
  4. sorry. i got so frustrated i just deleted the whole folder. im downloading it again.
  5. I started getting this after I updated DCS Now I get this even when I try to repair
  6. Which mobo and ram? Does anyone know if win 11 is better for the 7800x3d than win 10? I know the game bar and core parking of win 11 is irrelevant for this chip but was interested in other aspects as well, pcie5 mngmt, storage transfer speeds, Ethernet drivers. I would prefer to stay w win 10
  7. thank you. That's all I really needed to know-where those numbers on the left side of the VSD come from.
  8. The other way to derive what is displayed as altitudes the VSD is simply to calculate the expected altitude of the triangle defined by the distance set by TDC cursor on the VSD. This would simply be a calculation and not a measurement.
  9. you miss my point. HOW is it reading the dimensions of the cone at that distance? Are the altitudes in the left margin of the VSD calculations? or are they measurements? If they are measurements of the actual 'radar cone' then you need data to give you the horizontal distance for which you want to calculate the altitude. The only way to get a measurement of horizontal distance is by timing a radar return. The location of the TDC on the scope must therefore reflect how far away from your jet you are looking. But is that the result of measurement?
  10. I dont know why you are all arguing. None of you have addressed the question: When you move the TDC, what is actually happening so that the altitude numbers on the left margin change? I am specifically talking about RWS. The only way I can imagine that the altitude range increases as you move the TDC upwards (further away from the aircraft) is that later and later returns are registered. Is this the case?
  11. thamk you all. Ironhand's videos were helpful. But I dont understand why the altitude numbers in the left margin change as I move the TDC? Moving the TDC does not change the angle or direction of the radar sweep. Is it a filter to exclude radar echoes that return later than a specified time? Basically excluding radar echoes from further targets? If this is the case, then scanned wedge would be smaller in volume and the altitude numbers in the left margin would behave the way they do.
  12. I imagine something bizarre was happening with the F15C controls. Even tho the correct keys were bound, it was as if the game did not recognize them. Maybe it was the F15 SMTP mod I had installed before .
  13. I downloaded a fresh copy of dcs open beta. Deleted the saved games folder. Restarted the game , bound some controls for basic flight. Now, scan zone up and down work, but scan zone left and right do nothing still. Changing from TWS to RWS gives me a narrower scan angle but even in TWS, I cannot move the 'cone' of the scan volume left/right.
  14. C. I just copied the installed version from F to C drive
  15. antenna elevation does not exist in the control binding options for the F-15C.
  16. my regedit has three entries: DCSWorld is 1 locates a non existent copy on my C drive (I must have deleted it long ago) DCS World Openbeta locates to my F drive which happens to be the largest SSD DCS World OpenbetaServer locates to my D drive. If I try to instal a 'virgin copy' it just looks to my F drive and puts a shortcut to the single thread executable on the desktop. If I rename the folder on my F drive and then try to reinstall, it creates a whole new folder on the F drive. It never bothers to look at the C drive and install there.
  17. I want to install a fresh, virgin copy of DCS open beta. I download the installer file, run it, it updates itself first. Then it goes through a few EULA screens. Then it creates a desktop shortcut to an installation that already exists on my SSD (my H drive, not my C drive which is smaller but also has a DCS open beta installation). What? So I renamed the folder on my H drive SSD to DCS.original. I rerun the installer. Go through the same motions, Now it's downloading 142 gig of the base install to the same SSD (H drive). Why does it choose the largest SSD and not give me a choice?
  18. yes. i even tried binding hotas buttons to the different functions. scan zones dont move. time to repair dcs
  19. yep, not working for me. can only move TDC
  20. Thank you , I get that. But how do I point the funnel up and down? I cannot get the numbers to change without moving the TDC. Using scan zone controls seems to not work.
  21. here are two more pics: cursor at top alts 16/6 cursor at bottom alts 25/20 shouldnt be the other way round? all i did was move the tdc also moving the scan zone left/right/up/down does nothing. should it?
  22. where do you see the elevation? I try using scan zone up/down but see no indications.
  23. Here I am in an F-15C trailing two MiG29 drones, each about 8 nm ahead. The radar shows nothing. The TDC cursor is ar the top of the display. Here I move the TDC cursor to the bottom of the display. Shouldnt the numbers at the left hand margin be closer together indicating a narrower vertical slice of the sky? Why am I not finding the targets on the scope?
