Thinking of getting a Pimax 8K X - is it worth it over a Reverb G2?
FETUS replied to Notso's topic in Virtual Reality
No you don’t need a hand controller but need a base station for full DOF or preferably two, especially if you’re cranking your head around in BFM. -
AMD RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition vs. RTX 3090?
FETUS replied to GPatricks's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sorry been away from home for a bit. @Willie NelsonWhen I say 90, it's sometime 82-90 FPS over NTTR with just a few ground units. I will probably go back to the 5900X CPU for more testing. I came from a 9900KF and 2080 Super and saw a pretty substantial difference going to the 5800X/5900X and 6900XT and 3090. If you decide to upgrade, you would find a new CPU and GPU will pair nicely with a G1. I also run a G1 and a PIMAX 8kx but prefer the simplicity of the G2. The G1 is a good HMD but the G2 has better audio and clarity, though it was a pain to pair with a X570 Mobo without a call to HP support and a additional PCI USB Card. @BeastyBaiter I know, I found it hard to believe myself. I found that messing with the view settings made most difference in FPS. I came from a 2080 Super, too. Went to a 3090 and now trying the 6900XT since it's mated with a AMD CPU. I'm currently on a 5800X (OC'd in CTR 2.0) and 6900XT in Rage mode that is slightly OC'd and not hitting close to 90 FPS with the G2, around 65-75FPS over NTTR. I run PD 1.0 in game and 100% in Steam In App settings. I also force DX11 and use the FHolger dll mod. Motion smoothing off. MSAA off. Tac View Off. Seems like the last patch caused my FPS to drop some. Someone mentioned the shader mod in another thread that I need to try. I tried to get the most performance out of my 2080 Super (fine with the G1) but with the G2, it really likes the 6900Xt and 3090. And the difference is quite substantial making the jump to the newer cards. -
Have you enabled Re-Size bar in your BIOS settings since you are using a AMD chip and GPU? https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/boost-gaming-speed-with-a-click-what-is-resizable-bar-and-can-it-juice I also had success using the Radeon Adrenaline software and putting my GPU into RAGE mode. And also overclocking my 5800X in Clock Tuner 2.0 by 1USMUS.

Your system is more than capable. I'm on an 8KX but not on my gaming system at moment. My gamma is set to 2 I think in game. Will report back.

No sir, not seeing your specs. And for Smart Smoothing to work correctly, you need to be hitting FPS of half your HMD Mhz, so for 60mhz 30FPS, 75mhz 37 FPS, and 90 Mhz 45 FPS. I spoke to Kevin from Pimax over the phone a couple weeks ago and he helped set my system up. I copy and pasted some of his notes up. Eventually they will have PiTool profiles of other DCS pimax users on the PiTool Experience that you can try their settings. I had to lower the DCS World PD to 1.0 to get it smooth. DCS Game Settings 1.25x OR 1.50 PiTool Render Quality 2700v (3314x2737) SteamVR Settings > Video > Custom Resolution 2700v (3314x2737) SteamVR Settings > Applications > [App] > Custom Resolution 1.2 DCS World Pixel Density High Textures, Traffic, 2x MSAA, MAX Trees… Pitool Settings Parallel Projections = Disabled Smart Smoothing = Enabled* (only it enable it if you also have MSAA 2x enabled) FOV = Normal

@melchiondaIf you post your system specs and what settings you are running, it could help us diagnose some of your issues. And which headset you're using. I had bought a 5k Super and sent it back. Clarity was no where near the 8KX.

I'm running pretty much the exact setup with a G2 and PIMAX. I can help you out once you get your Pimax in. I had one of the reps from Pimax walk me through setup. I would recommend a Vive Lighthouse or two for optimum DOF tracking. I would also recommend one of the HMD counterweights. I run them both on my G2 and Pimax 8kx and they work great. https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/pimax-8k-x-pro-balance-300-gram

The key point is Sensor Select forward long will replace TPOD screen with LMAV seeker screen. UNCAGE and FIRE (Lock target and lase first) Typical employment sequence AGM-65E2/L Using aircrafts own TPOD to lase target. AG Master mode on LMV2 select STOR or EHSD page (Alignment 90s) Check Weapon Laser Code matches the TPOD Laser Code (Change via UFC if required). Use TPOD to designate the target Aera, PT or MT Fly missile boresight towards the target and uncage the seeker. Select TPOD laser to armed from safe ensue laser LASR selected and FIRE laser. Observe Laser search in HUD when Locked and IN RNG displayed in the HUD SSS Forward Long will remove the TPOD display and display the LMV2 page briefly to confirm lock and gimbal limit launch parameters. Launch Missile and maintain aircraft position to keep TPOD LOS for lasing. When TPOD display returns laser position can be refined if required with the TDC. Use of the AGM-65E2/L with an external designator or buddy lase is the same as the AGM-65E apart from the 90 second alignment time the weapon requires.

[NO BUG] AGM-65E2/L no longer working with TPOD after update

You're right Jeff. I installed the new update for Friday. Tried L2, and re-created your problem. Installed the Razbam TPOD "Hot Fix" and still doesn't work. Edit: Got it to work. SSS forward long will bring up MAV seeker, UNCAGE, then fire. Typical employment sequence AGM-65E2/L Using aircrafts own TPOD to lase target. AG Master mode on LMV2 select STOR or EHSD page (Alignment 90s) Check Weapon Laser Code matches the TPOD Laser Code (Change via UFC if required). Use TPOD to designate the target Aera, PT or MT Fly missile boresight towards the target and uncage the seeker. Select TPOD laser to armed from safe ensue laser LASR selected and FIRE laser. Bummer, mines works on my end. But the regular E-Model will turn off TPOD. I watched your track and may be a dumb question but are you uncaging the Maverick? -

Did you apply the hot fix? https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/277826-21072021-quick-fix/?tab=comments#comment-4730995 -
From the post on New Mavericks AGM-65F and AGM-65E Properties Limitations: Mavericks cannot be used at the same time with the TPOD. If the TPOD is active, Maverick video will replace TPOD video when the missile is active. If the TPOD is selected after selecting a Maverick, the missile will be deselected. Use the AGM65E2/L with TPOD. Cheers

Great product and makes the G2 way more comfortable for long periods. Excellent service and shipping.

Try enabling Re-Size Bar in your motherboard BIOS. AMD Re-Size Bar And rudder pedals, use AXIS ASSIGN. And make sure your axis' assignments aren't doubled on other controllers.

AMD RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition vs. RTX 3090?
FETUS replied to GPatricks's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
With the 6900XT, I'm getting close to 90FPS in my Reverb G2 with the visibility set to ULTRA and high settings, and it's smooth with no stutters over NTTR. If I go to EXTREME it drops to 45-60 FPS and there are some micro stutters. I also turned off all the settings in the Radeon software. This is on a 5900X but will test with a 5800X soon. -
I am running a 5900X and have a 6900XT and 3090. After some tweaking the 6900XT rips at almost 90FPS with high settings at ULTRA view distance. At EXTREME, it drops to 50 FPS. When flying the Harrier, ULTRA view works well for me. I think anything 3080 and above will be a vast improvement over the 1080TI which is a great card. I ran a Rift S with it. I am still tweaking the 6900XT but its right up there with my 3090 in DCS. And it runs a lot cooler with no OC. Maybe the synergy between the AMD GPU and CPU have something to do with it.

AMD RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition vs. RTX 3090?
FETUS replied to GPatricks's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In my experience with VR, the 6900XT is almost up there with my 3090. Not sure if that it works well or better with the AMD Ryzen 5900X CPU. The frame rates are about the same but there is some noticeable lag or slight stutter with the 6900XT when looking out the sides just at the plain ground. It doesn't run as hot as my 3090 either. And I agree with GaryR, a lot of games and monitors are designed to take advantage of Nvidia's technology. I should probably do some better benchmark tests. I just got a 5800X chip and will try that out, too. -
AMD RX 6900 XT Extreme Edition vs. RTX 3090?
FETUS replied to GPatricks's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm currently running a 6900XT in my 5900X in VR (G2 and Pimax). Though I'm still trying to fine tune my settings on the 6900XT, it's running really well in high settings. Though I'm around 45-60FPS, I still get some stuttering while looking outside. Haven't tested on Multiplayer yet. I've been using a 3090 for a few weeks as well and I think the cards are both great at DCS with some tweaking needed for VR. It can be a pain between Steam VR, WMR, In Game and Radeon/Nvidia settings. -
Try focusing the IPD to your dominant eye with the wheel. Then use software to tweak it in PiTool.

AMD RYZEN 7 5800X vs AMD RYZEN 9 5900X
FETUS replied to SirWoofer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I run a 5900X and have been wanting to get a 5800x to compare. I think you will be fine with the 5800x. A lot of the benchmarking videos show them to be within range of each other in gaming. And the 5800x is cheaper and available. For productivity, go 5900x. -
Awesome Darkman, I just came from a G1 Reverb, 2080 Super and 9900KF. Going to 5900X and 3090 and Pimax been a huge leap. I went from 50-60 FPS in the G1 with the 5900X/3090 to 25FPS with the Pimax. I imagine there is a setting/s I need to tweak in Steam VR. What I like when flying low and turning in the AV8B is that I can look outside to left or right and still have better situational awareness out the front via my peripheral vision.

Find cause for crazy high CPU frametime?
FETUS replied to Donglr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Congrats on the new video card. I've been wanting to get a 6900XT for a bit. I had been running a 9900KF and 2080 Super and would get 35-45 FPS on medium settings. I upgraded my mobo and processor/GPU to a Ryzen 5900X and 3090 FTW. Cranked up my settings and now get 45-60 FPS. I've been really happy with the results. In my experience, multiplayer is very taxing on DCS regardless of GPU. I had a 6700k back in 2015 when they came out. I think you should upgrade to a Ryzen 5600 or 5800X to get the most out of that video card. Or check your bios settings for this : PCI-Subsystems Re-Size Bar -
PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
FETUS replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I was number 355 on Firecat's list and just received my V2 a week ago. It was a long wait but I look forward to putting it to use. Tired of dropping my VR controllers or fiddle with keyboard presses or blind switch throws.- 3421 replies
