  1. Definitely one of the most complex modules I've flown
  2. Yes, on the right side of the main screen you should see a training tab
  3. Right but does this include a target that I've hooked on the TID in TWS, or do I have to have the target locked in STT to move the seeker to the position of the lock?
  4. If theACM cover/boresight switch is selected with the AIM-54 in TWS, will it launch along the ADL or towards a target detected by the radar?
  5. Really making it more complicated than it has to be XD
  6. ok so essentially, my heading minus the target heading is the aspect?
  7. :no_sad::dunno: no worries I'll figure it out eventually like I did AoA when I was a beginner
  8. So the 20L means hes 20 degrees to your left?
  9. A bit confused about some things regarding positional geometry. What is aspect? When AWACS gives you a BRAA, aspect means which way the target is facing (towards, perpendicular, or away from you). But can't aspect also mean how many degrees the target is off of your nose regardless of their heading (45 left, 10 right etc)?
  10. I need clarification on the real life behavior of the Phoenix in STT, if someone is able to clarify. Is the Phoenix only guided semi actively until impact or does it go active just like in tws
  11. And since you have a chance of being notched in PD, I would personally always use CW so there's no chance of that
  12. That is correct but the question I was asking in the part you quoted me in was: does the Phoenix go pitbull at all if launched in STT or does it act completely like a fox 1 missile? I would assume its the former
  13. If hes off on your right, yeah but on your left I'd rather not have to calculate 360-(whatever heading the radar gives) to find out how many degrees he is off my left. But alright, it is what it is
  14. Ok I understand but this makes no tactical sense to me as to why the designers of the aircraft made it this way. It's much more useful to have an exact bearing based off of your current heading
  15. I thought that if launched in STT, the Phoenix will still go pitbull like in TWS its just that using STT gives it a bit longer range. This isn't the case then?
  16. But im heading south on a heading of 180. (Sorry if im misunderstanding) If the bandit is 5 degrees left the reading should be "BR 175" correct ?
  17. Nope because if he was 5 degrees left it would read "BR 355" even though im heading 180
  18. When i have a target locked or hooked on the TID, i can see the bearing given at the top right as "BR XXX" But the radar appears to be calculating the bearing always as if i am heading north. I could be heading 180 and the target is 5 degrees to my right, but instead of the radar showing "BR 185" it shows "BR 5" as if i am heading north Is this intended?
  19. Another question: is there a reason that PD guidance is not automatically used when in PD-STT? It seems like it'd make more sense if the designers made it this way, don't see any reason to have someone locked in PD-STT and want to use CW guidance over PD
  20. No, at the moment it will continue to track the target even if u break lock before pitbull
  21. From the f-14 manual: "Then when the missile is within range of its seeker’s ARH mode the AN/AWG-9 commands the missile to switch to ARH. Absence of this command via the AN/AWG-9 radar means that the missile won’t switch to the ARH mode. The AN/AWG-9, however, continues to transmit guidance commands to the missile as a fallback in case the missile can’t acquire the target autonomously. This means that the AIM-54 isn’t a “fire and forget” missile per se but it can be considered autonomous after transfer to ARH"
  22. And it appears from my limited testing that this is not the case in DCS, the phoenix goes active even when i break lock mid guidance. can heatblur comment on this? i may just not understand how the phoenix works
  23. AFAIK, the Phoenix must be commanded to go active by the f14 radar. If the lock is broken mid course the phoenix will go ballistic and will not turn on its own radar to continue tracking. Unlike the aim120 which will steer itself to the last position your radar gave it steering commands to
  24. no what i meant was if me and a friend play a mission on our own and we wanna use srs do we have to make our own SRS server? or can we "piggyback" off of another SRS server because i have been able to connect to say, the buddyspike SRS server and talk to people even tho im not in the buddyspike game server
