Batumi. No doubt abou this for me. That is where everything began for me in DCS and where I always do first test flights since. It‘s small and boring from a layout perspective and no nice hangars and stuff but... that‘s where it all starts :smilewink:

It's probably a question that only you can answer in the end: whatever suits you well :smilewink: If you foresee to spend many hours flying the hornet per month or even per week and your rig supports the additional display well (performance-wise) you might want to invest in that "surgery". For my part, I always used to (and still do) fly the A-10C with two Cougar MFCD bezels but only one has a small 8" screen behind. For me that works fine, I use that MFCD mainly for the Litening targeting pod and DSMS setup pages. Since my rig is rather old and does not have super duper performance from a year 2018 perspective, I will likely stick with my single MFCD display even with the Hornet and use it for the radar and ATFLIR pages. Not having the moving map there would be acceptable for me. And since my TM Warthog stick just broke last week (after around 8 years of duty) I have to spend 300 bucks on a new one which means the investment for a completely new PC is now another 300 bucks further away...:(

Thanks Jediteo. Which of the issues mentioned in this thread will be fixed by the update? No RB-15s on AI planes? ME loadout menu? camo stores? All? :music_whistling:

Hi folks, just a quick question. Yesterday I updated DCS from 1.5.7 to the latest 1.5.8 (stable). I also downloaded and installed some new liveries for my Viggen from the User file section. Then I changed a self-made SP mission where I am the lead of a flight of 4 AJS37 and replaced the default liveries of my own player Viggen and also the ones for the other 3 aircraft of my flight. I did not change the loadout for any of us 4 which consist of 2xRB-15s (normal ones for me and AI version for the AI wingmen) and 1x external tank. 1.) Upon mission start I noted that my wingmen appeared not the have the RB-15s loaded or they were just not displayed. 2.) In the loadout menu of the ME, I noted that a black square was drawn for the centerline tank instead of an image of the tank itself as usual. The tanks were correctly loaded and usable in flight though. Question: Is that issue related to 1.5.8 or did I do something wrong upon installing the liveries? Unfortunately I did not have had the time to test it with the default liveries to see if everything would be ok as before I updated to 1.5.8 and before I installed the user liveries. Thanks in advance for your help! Cheers, Christian

I do have an even older Gainward GeForce GTX 680 (2GB) purchased in December 2012. Nevada works fine for me with medium settings and the Mirage 2000 or A-10C. But I also do have some concerns looking at the screenshots with the sheer amount of trees in the Caucasus map... Nevertheless, my experience tells me that DCS with either Nevada (2.0) or Caucasus (1.5) is way less demanding on the rig performance compared to other flight simulators (FSX, Prepar3D). Kudos to Eagle Dynamics!

Thanks SiThSpAwN. So I‘ll try with the best charts I can find and see if they work for me. Eventually I might post my collection in the User file section then, provided they work and there are no copyright issues.

Hi folks, From the map that Wags has posted I assume the airfields shown are the ones we‘re getting, at least in the initial release. Question: If so, is there a specific point in time that the map will be based on? The reason why I am asking is because I am looking for navigation and ground charts of the airfields in question and the time is important to find the appropriate charts in terms of magnetic runway bearings (which change over time as you know). Now I noticed that none of the bearings shown there for the localizer beams correspond to current magnetic values (most of them off by 1 or 2 degrees). They also do not correspond to the true bearings either. Examples: Sharjah Intl (OMSJ): 123° as per Wags screenshot 120.57° (~121°) magnetic/122.37° true as per OM AIP 30-MAR-2017 (MagVar 1.8°E, est. 2012) Al Maktoum Intl (OMDW): 122° as per Wags screenshot 119° magnetic/121° true as per OM AIP 30-MAR-2017 (MagVar 2°E, est. 2017) This one is a good benchmark since the airport is relatively new, being published in AIP for the first time in 2011, back then with a MagVar of 1.6°E (MagVar established in 2008 ) Bandar Abbass Intl (OIKB): 208° as per Wags screenshot 206° magnetic/207.77° true as per OI AIP 15-SEP-2016 (MagVar 2°E, est. 2014) Here "Wags bearing" nearly resembles the official true bearing. Maybe it is way to early to ask this detail question but I assume at least the true bearings of the runways in DCS SOH map will match the real true bearings, so it is all just a question of which magnetic variation applies. Sorry for this long story about a short question. Looking for appropriate aeronautical charts for the SoH map is just my humble way of bridging the time gap until it's going to be released :smilewink: Cheers, Christian

AI viggens not launching all missiles.
Hog_No32 replied to Capn kamikaze's topic in Bugs and Problems
You are right, Oden. The minimum altitude that AI can fly could need some tweaking. Over the water the lowest I can getbmy wingmen to fly is around 110m - obviously too high for sneaking in underneath the enemies radar. But I believe this is a DCS issue not limited to the Viggen or any other specific aircraft. -

Definitely not true. I am flying a lot of self made missions where AI Viggens (both wingmen as well as other Viggen flights) fire anti-ship missiles and kill ships. Unfortunately I did not endeavor any sort of bombing missions since I prefer anti-surface warfare with the Swedish beauty and the powerful Rb-04s and -15s. So I can‘t talk about AI bombing. Maybe there are issues but saying it is a player-only module would be a bit far fetched. -

Make sure your active waypoint is the target waypoint (M#)where the ships are when instructing your wingman to attack the ships with Rb-15s. That is what solved the problem for me. A couple times I have had my BX waypoint for my own Rb-15 as the active waypoint and then my wingmen told me „unable“ or „negative“ when instructing them to attack. Switching to M4 (in my case) and telling them to attack again worked fine then. Hope that helps.. Cheers, Christian -
Hi. If you load the AI versions of the Rb-15 (same for Rb-04), they should work. At least they work for me with AI, both with AI wingmen as well as other AI groups.

I‘ve tried the same with the approach and target altitude codes but no effect on my end neither. Haven‘t heard about that one. What bug is this intended to solve? I always have the weapons selector set to ATTACK before I change the Navigation/Radar mode from NAV to ANF...

Have you tried a DCS repair or reinstalled DCS? I‘m using the TM Warthog as well and mostly fly the Viggen and to a lesser extent the A-10C recently, all this with the 1.5.7.x release. I don‘t have this issue with roll tendency, neither when clean nor with (similar) weapon loads.
-
What now? Buggy or the best sim? I‘ve never experienced a lot of bugs. Particular ones with particular modules which are early access or beta: yes. But not with final released products. Also, keep in mind the DCS framework and the modules implemented are pretty pretty complex and they (have to) run on a multitude of different hardware and OS. Even big companies with sh#tloads of money such as Apple sometimes (often?) have flaws in their software and they only run on a very limited hardware. Compared to that, DCS and the partners are doing an outstanding job and that certainly includes Heatblur and the Viggen! My 2 cents...

There is a hugely effective sppeed brake: it‘s the delta wing. Just pull some g‘s when approaching the landing site. One or two turns will bleed away airspeed like nothing else.:)
-
That‘s the version I use mostly too. I‘ll try and see how many (if any) hits my RB-15s receive when they are destroyed by the AK-630s. My SP missions tend to be very long (btw 2-4 hours) and many other assets are with me. So the logs/tracks are extremly big and I usually I don‘t even check them due to the sheer amount of events taking place in a 3h mission. Unfortunately I might not be able to fly in the next few days due to limited free time...
-
It certainly has a „damage model“ implemented. Mine get killed before impact more often than not when attacking well defended battle groups. Not sure what was going on in your mission. What version have you been using? 2.1.x or 1.5.7.x?

Thanks for sharing, Knock-knock, the Viggen is probably not delivering a stunning and super dynamic performance at air shows. But she still is a beauty indeed. And her sound is still unmatched imho. She is the only jet that I could feel and not only hear right upon throttle-up on the runway!
-
Well, there were some updates on the SoH map progress in the weekend news including decent screenshots. Just no estimates on the release date but that is roughly true for the F/A-18 as well, right? Anyway, doing a lot of anti-surface ops with the Viggen in the Caucasus map currently I think it is fair to say we already have a good map with huge waters already now. So I am in for the „a/c first, map second“ :smilewink:

Found the relevant section in the manual: TERNAV can be turned off by inputting 581000 in TAKT. But by default it is on upon startup. Not sure what the use case would be to turn it off though (except in case of malfunction). Cheers, Christian

Can you switch it off or disable it by any means? I don't think so...

just to be sure: when you try to select B2 or B3' your data selectors are set to AKT POS and OUT?
