  1. fly in the cold. only turn de icing on when the warning light turns on. at -10 you have loads of EGT. enough for out of ground effect hover with rockets and guns.
  2. is you hard disk full? that can have quite drastic results on performance. especially with SSD. i usually notice when an automatic update has pushed me over the 80% full limit. i get stutters. and i tend to keep it close to the limit because ssd are small.
  3. I've got a 600w PSU and my rig runs fine. the PSU is 6 years old. but a good make. and its carried my 4.5 ghz overclock for 4 years. i used to have a gtx690 (2 680 in one card SLI) which used way more power than my 1080 superclocked.
  4. its a pity Stephen hawking has died. they could have used him as the voice actor :) endearing indeed. his voice system got replaced countless times, but they managed to make him sound the same through each one just more intelligible. so even he liked it.
  5. i got a 50" 4k tv for xmass. never used it with DCS because i fly in the rift. to be honest i don't like the 4k as a TV, seems to ruin movies not done in 4k.. so just about everything.
  6. try pressing the numlock key. for some reason right ctrl and num 1 didn't work for me either. i pressed numlock (even though it was on) and this fixed it. so try numlock in the game, even if its on, and try again.
  7. @jeff32 i learned to fly the huey with the EGT as part of my cockpit scan, so when they brought in engine damage, they actually increased the EGT limit. (the huey ran hotter before the change) so my experience of the new huey, is more EGT limit and more power than it had before. and no i have not blown an engine. not even on long missions with sling loads. because i learned to fly it with an even lower limit. and elbrus was possible with a lower limit. the secret is smooth, trimmed flight to maximise your potential energy. and being slow and steady on the collective to prevent EGT spikes. i have not had to change the way i fly the huey. since the change i fly it the same but with more power. i cant be the only one who was using the fully animated and working engine gas temp gauge before they brought in engine damage?
  8. flying at your maximum climbing speed of 60mph and its easy. don't turn on the engine de icing until you need it as you gain altitude the temp drops and you can steadily increase collective. use pitch to keep it at 60mph for maximum climb. and you can stay in the green all the way there. 60mph may seem slow but its actually the fastest way there.
  9. you pick the one time he does not pull back on the stick and ignore the 3-4 times he does pull back on the stick. which wont win you many arguments. cherry picking results is the antithesis of the scientific method. you have to explain why the outlier exists.. before you can shoot down the rule informed by the other results. it looks like the controls get stuck, because at that point the rotors should depart the aircraft :) and they don't.. so it eventually gives you back control. if you are pulling over 3g.
  10. helicopter operation need a guy on the ground waving his arms. that's usually what the pilot looks at. for cues
  11. this was the main reason i took the return spring out of my warthog. no more hand pain flying the huey.
  12. my first rep comment was "welcome to the forum" to my first post. of course i didn't see it for months because i didn't know rep comments existed till i randomly found them. so new users who see bad rep comments? i completely missed them.
  13. use the engine power indicator to know when you are at cruise power, max continuous and take off power. its on the right. above the battery switches max times are 6 minutes for take off power B on the scale. 60 minutes for max continuous H on the scale unlimited for below K.
  14. they were mostly training videos done in a very old version of DCS below 720p.. i don't miss them. you can find better on youtube.
  15. polychop have made a whole pile of fixes for the gazelle since the last ED patch 2 weeks ago to 2.5ob according to their patch notes for the gazelle and belsimtek mentioned another tweak to the huey EGT on the thread about that so there are fixes out there that i know i need :) hopefully today.
  16. @probad another good point :)
  17. firing the T first before radar lock on will let it get a bit closer before the other pilot reacts to the RWR for the R. if he does not see it coming. but either way should work in theory. for head on engagements.
  18. i think the Russians fire one of each. they fire the r-27T first then lock on for the r-27R. so the target tries to beam or turn away from the R giving the T a better aspect. but i have no idea if the theory works in DCS.
  19. this reminds me of corporate colours. a particular shade of blue given in RGB. but all of the monitors and all of the printers each display it differently. and our OCD office manager was most vexed by this. to the point of distraction... almost madness :)
  20. yep night needs a tweak, although its not so bad in VR. oculus wont let a full dark image so auto tweaks the brightness. something about not putting users in a sensory deprivation tank :) they go mad or puke :) the light from light sources is attenuated to much over distance. by deferred shading. so we cant even see the stars.
  21. thanks for that Skatezilla. it actually brought back some ancient memories. my first rig i built in 96 had a matrox millennium. doom and dune, not so good for quake. and i upgrade to voodo2 in 98. 3dfxglide was an eye opener. so was half-life. and then jumped ship to ati in 2000, because 3dfx glide was dying and it only supported opengl and not direct3d in windows. now its been NVidia and has been for over a decade. you forget how quickly things changed then. my current mobo and ram are nearly 7 years old.. unthinkable back then :)
  22. rift because its cheap. even with the touch controllers which are better than the vive's controllers. and i have had no issues with room scale and 2 sensors. ive noticed most people are loath to move their feet in room scale. although i have one friend who instantly started trying to run away from monsters and was falling all over my furniture. which was hilarious. my sides literally hurt for days.. I've never split my sides laughing before.
  23. what we really need is DirectVR in DX13 :)
  24. Quadg

    Huey wish list

in this video they talk about the flachettes at 23:13 they called them nails. good vid this one, a veteran talking over his 8mm video for proper context. which is rare. the first part is here with another pilot. both of these are good.
  25. is dcs opengl or diiect3d? i tend to get better performance with direct3d. anecdotally speaking :)
