  1. Good luck Winwing. Another simpilot here waiting anxiously for news of your F18 HOTAS. Wondering if you are considering releasing F14 and F16 sticks to compatible with your jostick base?
  2. Do you refer to the Morse Code signal of the airfield?
  3. It's a wired headset.
  4. I have the Explorer as well, and I don't use the headphone plug - I just wear my headset/mic over the top of the Explorer's headband - the headset is large enough to fit OK.
  5. I am using the Lenovo Explorer with Ryzen 2700. My system specs are in my signature. Using preset VR graphic settings and PD of 1.2, I generally get 45 fps flying around - lower on fields - more like 30 fps. I'm still playing around with Ryzen Master settings too. Lately I have been using its Game Mode, which disables 4 cores (leaving 4) and overclocking those to 3.6Ghz @1.325V. I'm not really keen to overclock and it hasn't made a huge difference that I can tell. I haven't tried MP yet - just flying around trying to learn the game and different aircraft. My CPU is usually 13-30% utilized in game and the 1080 is pegged at 100%.
  6. Wow and I thought Heatblur pulled out all the stops with "This Is War" video. "Need for Speed" is just ridiculous. I've never seen anything so good. Congratulations, Heatblur! Can I buy stock?
  7. It sure is a beauty, and that natural metal effect is better than I've seen anywhere.
  8. Hi guys, I've encountered a problem since being away from the game for a week or so - I have my Warthog joystick button 7 mapped to zoom in slow, and it is not functioning in game. I have button 9 mapped to zoom out slow, and that works fine. Windows joystick calibration sees this button working OK; in game I can map and unmap the zoom function to this button without problems, that is, DCS's controller page recognizes when I press this button and allows my to assign the function without problems. It just doesn't do anything in the game any more when I press it. I'm pretty new to the game, and am training myself with the F-5E, but I have the same problem in the F-15C. The only thing that has changed since I got back from vacation is that I switched back to TRACKIR from VR using the Lenovo Explorer. I had the same mappings in VR though. Anybody run into this before? Thanks! EDIT: I found the problem - I had assigned JOY_BTN7 for VR Zoom in the UI Layer - clearing that assignment did the trick!
  9. You can by a Ryzen processor with confidence. The RAM problems/BIOS updates occurred during 1st gen Ryzen rollout - Ryzen 5 1600, 1800X, etc. I have the MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC and run DDR 4 3200 without a problem. I use G.Skill Trident Z, but the latency and timings of this RAM are more relaxed - CAS Latency is 16, and the timings are 16-18-18-38. The board BIOS had a profile set up for this memory and worked first time at 3200 - I had heard stories about people not being able to get above 2933 but I never had a problem. G.Skill also has Trident Z DDR 3000 which has tighter timings: Latency of 15, 15-16-16-35. I'm not sure which is better - higher frequency or slightly lower frequency with less latency. One note, if you don't want to mess with overclocking, it might be better to pay an extra $20 and get the 2600X - its like a 2600 that AMD has overclocked for you already. And it comes with a much better cooler. My understanding is at least right now, the faster CPU is better for DCS.
  10. If it were me, I think I'd go for the 2600X - its only $20 more at Microcenter right now, comes with a better air cooler (Wraith Spire vs Wraith Stealth) and has a better turbo boost speed (4.25GHz vs 3.9GHz). The 'X' version does use more power though - 95W vs 65W. Might be wise to wait and see what kind of price/performance the next generation of Ryzen offers, but if you need something right now the 2600X is a solid performer.

  12. +1 for B&HPhoto - fast shipment, great price. The Explorer arrived yesterday. I've got it up and running now (thanks for the tips, Razi). I'll post my questions/problems/comments in another thread when I have more experience but in a nutshell, I now think of VR as an absolute game-changer. I have never felt more like I was inside a jet's cockpit. It's just wild to lean over and peer down over the side of the cockpit. I've not had a problem with nausea before, even when I made the switch to TrackIR from hat-switch views, but pulling tight turns and barrel rolls in the F-5 around the Nevada mountains can make a flash of wooziness sweep through my head. Even with the low resolution and noticeable screen door effect, flying through low clouds and looking the the ground matches my limited experience in real aircraft amazingly well.
  13. Well you sure can't be that price! I paid $109 USD through B&H Photo - I've never done business with them before. They had used Explorers rated in excellent condition for as low as $77 USD, but these no longer have the factory warranty as they are pre-owned. Like you, I consider it an inexpensive first step into VR just to see what its all about. The Explorer doesn't come with hand controllers but flight sims are the only games I play so I don't think I'll need those anyway. Looking forward to giving it a try! Thanks for the tips; I'll get Steam and SteamVR installed today.
  14. I took the plunge into VR too; I recently ordered the Lenovo Explorer and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'm not sure how many others use this headset but the price compared to the Rift, Vive, and Odyssey made it too tempting an opportunity to pass up. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to set up, and if I have questions/problems its nice to know there are a few players around with the same equipment.
  15. I thought it was an in-house developed engine dubbed "EDGE" - for "Eagle Dynamics Graphic Engine".
  16. +1 Really excited to see the Viper come to DCS.
  17. Fantastic photo, Emmy! Really shows the bare metal vs silver-painted areas well. Did I read correctly that you took the picture?
  18. Fantastic video. Goosebumps at the F-16 reveal. So well done!
  19. Surely the increased performance of the late-J or L over the H would help it be more competitive, but I suspect it would still have trouble with the 109K or 190D in a dogfight, if they keep the fight fast. Another factor in the 8th AF turning away from the Lightning was probably the complexity and expense of the airplane, both in construction and maintenance. The '51 was rolling off assembly lines in both Ingelwood and Dallas, and could handle high altitude deep escort better than the Lightning. The 9th AF made use of the '38s solid ground attack capability though. It's just a very unique looking jack-of-all-trades aircraft that saw action in every theater and was in production throughout the War. I hope ED will someday include it in DCS World.
  20. +1 for a late block P-38J or P-38L in DCS World. It'd be a great fit for Normandy and the time period represented; it flew both A-A and A-G missions with 8th and 9th AF FGs. With tricycle gear simplifying ground handling, counterrotating props canceling torque and a variety of mission types it might be a great first aircraft for new players. It's physically a large aircraft; I think a well-done '38 could be as impressive in DCS: WWII as the Tomcat will be in modern world DCS.
  21. I believe F-14As from VF-41 dropped bombs in the Kosovo War. Interesting read about their experience here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/951658.Black_Aces_High
  22. Great cinematic!

    F-16

I have purchased some modules but my fire hasn't really been lit yet. Pretty sure the F-16C or the Saab Gripen would do that for me. I also think the pending integration between 1.5 and 2.0 will be very important to someone like me, who follows DCS with interest, but really have not jumped in yet. I would like to see the multiple versions situation sorted into a single unified version first.
