Uh... no it didn't. I realise it's a fantasy scenario, but it's ''Nazis from the dark side of the moon'' level of fantasy. The United States could not realistically invade the United States, not 40 years ago and not today, much less the Soviets completely devoid of relevant aircraft carriers. Nuke the US, yes. Invade it, no.

OXR MR has some flakey characteristics still and is generally inferior to other MR variants. Even when it's working perfectly, it has some artifacting, stutters, and general issues. There's supposed to be an improvement in the works though. That said, have you tried locking it to 45? Sometimes MR can cause problems when it's going in and out of usage (which it may do if unlocked).

Yeah, I heard about it. And in the very article it describes baaically 100% usage and some guys having abnormally high temps in the 80s but not cooking, implying A. They're monitoring such things and actually noted the change (which you should notice the fans spooling up if nothing else) B. Their system controlled the cooling situation well enough to prevent runaway overheating. A loooot of people run thermally borderline rigs, which you can get away with during day to day usage 99% of the time. Then something like that happens and they have no headroom to absorb it. Barring a glitch interfering with fan operation or thermal throttling (possible, but not what that article implies happened) you're not going to fry your system JUST with 100% usage. If it does, you've done something to help it along substantially. ''I clicked apply and bricked it'' is bs.

DCS Gets Mentioned in latest LTT Video covering DLSS 3.0
Mars Exulte replied to Canada_Moose's topic in Community News
You know that has no place here. Even now, an elite spec ops team dispatched by Nvidia's CFO office is surrounding your house. The last thing you'll hear whispered in your ear will be, ''The days of declining GPU prices are over... for you.'' -
Yeah, I'm still gonna say that's probably from the user fiddling with overclocking/fan curves on top of having insufficient airflow. Short of having improperly installed cooler/thermal paste from the factory, I seriously doubt you can have a temperature related failure unless the end user did a lot to help it happen. Even in the above case, I'm inclined to think the end user was probably having issues and simply chose to ignore them until failure. They are literally designed to save themselves in the event of routine problems like that, so barring a malfunction in THAT process... yeah, the user ignored the warning signs until disaster struck.

Nothing wrong with that. Tbh, simming is the only way most of us will experience military aircraft, and only a few of us will get to experience flight in a civvie context. Sims are a good way to give people a taste of life they might not normally ever get.

how much cpu bottlenecking is happening w DCS?
Mars Exulte replied to skypickle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's not that we don't know. We know. We also know there is ALWAYS a bottleneck somewhere, it's literally unavoidable. We also recognise, 99% of people are not going to buy ONLY the one RAM stick that meets your performance criteria. We know you like Gskillz. -
#1 As long as your numbers are within spec, it's irrelevant. Your GPU is working more, it will get hotter. That simple. This does not equate MOAR EF PEE ES #2 If it's getting too hot, your cooling solution is subpar. Period. #3 There is no such thing as a game melting/damaging a GPU. There are only poorly designed cases and ''diyers'' that don't know what they're doing.

DDR5 Performance Discussion
Mars Exulte replied to Krupi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep, I built a 5800x3d, DDR4, 3000 series build recently. It's a "deadend" upgrade path (usually you can do several iterations on AMD sockets, Intel is perpetually a dead end), but it has yielded about double the performance and satisfied my budget. I won't be upgrading again for 5 years or so. -

Mars Exulte replied to skypickle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah, it's not just "CPU in general". It's that everything is crammed onto one thread. If you're environment is relatively uncomplicated, then CPU binding will be minimal. It's when you start loading it up with complex environments, VR, etc, that you start running into issues. -
I dunno about best, but I've used VROptician several times now and have no complaints. $60ish if I remember. Ships relatively quick from Germany.

Behaviour of AI-controlled planes when in proximity of SAM sites
Mars Exulte replied to -Friend's topic in Chit-Chat
Yeah, not really possible with the current AI or SAM systems, tbh. -
Are DCS and War Thunder related?
Mars Exulte replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I doubt there's any direct link between the two, but both have major development offices in Moscow, so entirely possible designers have moved in between the two or share personnel that operate on a contract basis (for example a contract ends, and they start another one at another company) or guys that freelance in general taking art projects from whomever happens to need personnel. That'd be as far as any connection would go though, as they are very much separate companies. I haven't played war thunder much for years, last time I fired it up, it was very different artwise IMO. WT DOES have a stellar crew though, and they recreate some of those planes and vics in phenomenal detail. -
concern with general direction of DCS development
Mars Exulte replied to lev-kusanagi's topic in Chit-Chat
Well, it's completely detached from reality, so having a smoking fox gif is pretty appropriate. -

Oh, look! A concern thread! I love these. *taste* It's raaaaaw and terribly bland, you didn't even add any salt! 3/10 -
DDR5 Performance Discussion
Mars Exulte replied to Krupi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
First and foremost, RAM is about capacity, tbh. I'd rather have 64GB of DDR4 than 32GB of DDR5. Secondly, budget. If price is no object, go ahead and get DDR5. If it is, get DDR4. RAM isn't make or break like a CPU/GPU is. As long as you have enough of it, you're otherwise looking at a few percent of performance barring special circumstances. -
I had issues with tracking when it would get confused by the LEDs on my keyboard and pc. I try to disable most IR light sources, and just have the room itself decently lit. Just a room lamp is enough. That said, in my experience tracking is always wonky, jittery, and generally unsatisfactory with, for me at least, no easy remedies.

AMD rDNA 3 PRESS CONFERENCE
Mars Exulte replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I paid $1000 for a watercooled R9-295x2 ages ago. And the original Titan card was $2-3k. Dunno where you've been, but the high end cards have been hitting $800-1000 for a really long time, way before crypto and this other stuff came up. And really? PC GaMiNg is dOoMeD!!1!! Jesus @@ Guns as a hobby are way more expensive than PC gaming ever was or will be, yet every dollar store redneck I know has a rack full of AR-15s and hunting rifles and routinely blows off a couple hundred dollars of ammo. People have money for the things they want to have it for. -
AMD just dropped the prices for their new lineup.
Mars Exulte replied to TZeer's topic in Virtual Reality
Eh, I don't expect crypto to bounce back like it has in the past. Too much has happened since then, and I think the marginal profitability now is going to keep demand for GPUs at more traditional levels. For the foreseeable future, at least. -
Considering there are exactly zero countries on this planet capable of launching an amphibious invasion of the United States, including the United States, ''Red Dawn'' is just... You can use literally any generic ocean terrain for a RedFor attack on BluFor, but anything involving ''invading the US'' is just ridiculous. We don't need a(nother) urban training map in the desert, we need something actually plausible and useful.

AMD rDNA 3 PRESS CONFERENCE
Mars Exulte replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Really interesting to see the results of all this. I still plan on keeping the 3090 I picked up, but I'll be watching closely, anyway -
War Thunder is down the hall on the left. You'll know you are getting close when you hear people shouting ''*insert* bias is OP''. They try not to copy paste flight models around here.

That's not TOO bad, beats the hell out of $1500.
