  1. It's actually pretty common for safety and payload reasons, just like with the Harrier. It can takeoff vertically but not with much load, a rolling takeoff allows much more. Mi-24's commonly takeoff conventionally due to their unsuitability for hovering (especially with a full payload) and most especially at high altitudes (like Afghanistan). Even helos without wheels do the same thing, lifting very slightly off the ground and using ground effect to bouy them while they get up to speed. It's ALSO common for helos to stick to the taxiways and runways when landing/taking off at airports for the purpose of traffic control. Just because you CAN takeoff anywhere and go any direction straight from parking doesn't mean it's wise in congested airspace.
  2. The literal whole point of Stable is it doesn't change as often and they try not introduce problems. If you want more frequent updates, then use Beta. It's not just ''slightly delayed release''.
  3. Sorry for your misfortune. This is a good reminder why I keep 3-4 separate physicalmy separated copies of all important documents and files : one on my phone, one on a shock resistant portable drive, and one on my PC. All copies are updated every few months. I recently lost my phone, but thanks to my triple redundant backups, I lost nothing significant just a couple months worth of photos and memes :p
  4. I referred to the ''just use a mouse'' and that, yes, we know about the mouse. And yes, I agree with your statement, it is probably/definitely OpenComposite. I didn't ''blame'' anyone. I said ''just use a mouse'' is not the point. I would take issue with the perfectly bit My experience with HP was hit and miss way before OpenXR entered the field. I don't ''expect'' anything. They worked until recently, including with OpenComposite. They suddenly stopped doing so a few weeks back. I see it is not an isolated event, and commented. And again, the point was ''just use a mouse'' is irrelevant, and not what this stuf is for. The ideal striven for is ''everything working'' for most people. I know. It's also beside the point. And in the meantime, when things stop working, attention is drawn to it, as per usual.
  5. We know, but we didn't pay $500 so the controllers would randomly stop working. I also seriously doubt ''most'' people don't use a key VR device. Neither is the point, however. As implied, I have the same issues, thumbsticks don't work and the hands are rotated compared to before. Have yet to find a solution.
  6. I've been getting this, too, since updating to 2.8, it never did it before, so might be a bug.
  7. As I understand your group has your own server? Don't update your server immediately before clan ops. When ED drops an update has exactly nothing to do with when YOU actually need to update. Tell everybody to take their time updating through the next week. If your admin ignores this, then take it up with him. If you're using other people's servers, coordinate with your group to play on unupdated servers, or start your own, or whatever. When ED drops an update is irrelevant. It's entirely up to the community itself when and how to apply them. I haven't updated since the last 2.7 update. Organise with your buddies, that's the solution here. It's nobody else's concern.
  8. I didn't know the cm ejectors just... slot in. That's kinda neat.
  9. No. The monitors are not involved in the rendering process. All the work is being done behind the scenes. By the time it gets to your display it's all already been done. That's why you can up/downscale resolution to a given screen. You're telling it how many pixels to calculate, not how many you'll actually display. Basically, by this stage, any ''workload'' is on the monitor, not your GPU. The GPU already did its thing, now it's just passing out the results to whoever wants it. Same as solving a math equation and then giving the answer to your classmates. The calculations were already done and are still valid no matter how many people have them, they don't have to redo or check your work. They just hold it up.
  10. Dunno if online or not, but any plane with radar would have seen you and noted your position. Diving at this point isn't going to help much 99% of the time, since they already know your approximate location. NoE flight is conducted at ALL times, not just ''when enemies are spotted'', because then it's too late. Maybe, maybe not. There are no certainties. Generally speaking it is very difficult/unlikely, not ''impossible'', especially if you were detected early as you describe. Flying extremely low is also likely to kick up a lot of dust, depending on circumstances and make you more visible from a distance. Lastly, if you're playing online, there's no true ''surprise''. Everyone knows approximately what each side has, what routes they tend to travel, etc, and so finding you ''hiding'' in a commonly traveled area when he's specifically looking for people like you is not very difficult.
  11. Yeo thicker the cushion, narrower the FoV. Usually, we're trying to thin the cushion Amazon has quite a few for various headsets, I got one from AMVR with vents that finally solved my fogging problem.
  12. The relevant bit is GPU. If you aren't trying to do 4k on your tiny laptop monitor (I recommend 1440p or 1080p) then you can readily get a decent laptop for about $1,000 give or take. $3,000 is ultra high end bells and whistles, and a bit pointless on a at most 17'' screen. For reference, I got my wife a 15'' Asus 1080p with 2060 and it can run DCS with all settings maxed. So it depends on what specifically you want to do. Stay away from 4k and you won't need to spend very much.
  13. Correct You cannot address physics and the universe. The fish eye effect is a natural consequence of rendering a three dimensional world on a two dimensional object that may or may not conform correctly. Generally fisheye means you're zoomed too far out. There is an approximate position with the zoom for your size monitor and its relative position from your seated self, but you'll just have to adjust it until you find it. I have a 35'' curved Ultrasuede that I sit relatively close to, so it fills most of my fov. I set the zoom so it roughly corresponds what I would see through that ''window'' and that's that.
  14. It has already been explained some/many of the things you're requesting ARE in the game. It has also been explained it's a game, and we mostly have realistic expectations. It's also been stated by you you believe these other games simulate everything better, which with the exception of MSFS' weather effects (which I feel safe in saying are developed to a higher level, at least at present), range from ''dubious'' to ''laughable''. Yes, we know, you think you're very hardcore. You've said that several times. That's got nothing to do with anything, though, so... good to see you are sufficiently limber to pat yourself on the back like that!
  15. Of what, somebody hamming for the camera?
  16. Mirage2k, Spitfire, I-16, Jf-17, F-14, Uh-1, MiG-19, MiG-21, off top of my head. It's not lack of desire, just lack of time. So many interesting aircraft, not enough hours. Harrier, F-16, and Ka-50 have the most time by far, followed by Mi-8, Yak-52, and L-39.
  17. They do. It will help with consistency so highs and lows of FPS are closer together. On low end missions, it will make little to no difference, on heavily populated or script intensive missions it will help stabilise FPS. It will not magically double your framerate. Similar with Vulkan, although as it's GPU related and involves streamlining the flow to/from, it likely will yield SOME improvement, especially in combination with the CPU overhaul, but will also help bring the lows and highs closer together and make them more stable. It's going to improve QoL with some performance increases. It's not going to make a potato VR capable, nor is it going to resolve the fact VR is itself a demanding (and still newborn) technology and somewhat of a luxury item, especially for software that was not designed with it in mind. People keep ignoring that last part in their concern threads about ED's work ethics and competency, VR hasn't been around long, and how easy it was to attach it to pre-existing software has varied widely.
  18. The same way they do everything else? Few if any are using actual purpose made 4x4 screens, because they barely exist and aren't really fit for purpose.
  19. I think a lot of people use tablets for that sort of thing.
  20. There is literally an entire thread dedicated to the topic with dozens of people discussing their performance experience before and after switching. Go and read it instead of asking everyone to repeat verbatim what they've already discussed. Mine wasn't a decade ago, but likewise. I have a massive USB 3.0 powered bank that everything is plugged into. No more issues since I did that.
  21. Just as an aside, the Sa-15 is specifically intended to do exactly that, and shoot down munitions. It's not very long range, but its missiles are very fast and maneuverable. Stuff like Mavericks are easy prey (big, and subsonic).
  22. Setting everything else aside, HP does indeed suck. But they're still the best offer in that price range, tbh, you're just subject to the vagaries of chance. I am on my third cable set already. First one died six months in, second one died a few days after I got it, third one has worked perfectly ever since. Their cables are absolute garbage. As to the 5800x3d, it does indeed perform well, provided you have an appropriate GPU. If you don't have a 3080ti or better then no, you're not going to benefit from it. See the lengthy thread about it for more details.
  23. Texture mods don't work anymore because it doesn't have those textures. It can't be an ''option'' because... they're not there. They do not exist. Therefore it cannot be an option. Texture transparency is not how they're doing it now, based on what Skate just said.
  24. When it's stable. Preferaby after they figure out what screwed up performance. The whole point of stable is lacking major bugs.
